I feel Shell Helix 20/50 is better than anythg else, only issue is their stock and the price is Rs. 227 a litre

Its a car oil. Never use it in a bike.

OMG are you using shell Helix for your bike Helix = Car (dry Clutch)

Shell Advance type oils are for 2 wheelers (wet Clutch)

OMG, r u sure, my mech keeps talking abt dat oil, mine is a CI engine, is it probably becoz of that...

AFAIK except ducati & a few others nearly all bike manufacturers use wet clutch. So i think even the RE uses a wet clutch. Hence dont use the car oils in it.

Thanks Madhav, will check and speak to my mech and find out, this guy is a very old guy and has a very gud name in RE users, am sure he might not suggest wrong things

@All: TVS has launched a semisynthetic engine oil called Tru4Premium. It is 10w30 grade, costs Rs.235 and they are claiming a drain interval of 3.5K kms.minimum. I've tried it out on my old Fiero F2.

Well i dont know about the RE's too much. Hence i used the word "maybe".

The price looks OK. But the oil grade is not at all suitable for any other bikes other than the ZMA & TVS.

Hello guys. . yesterday i had been to change engine oil for my shogun after interval of 5 + months. . I wondered to see the old oil remaining was abt only 500ml or so. . is this usual ? does i need to top up in regular intervals ???

Mileage (kms.) gives a clearer picture than say..'months'. A good rule of thumb for engine oil change is approx. 2000 kms. for mineral oil. You can stretch it a bit further if you have the habit of riding gently. Twice as much for synthetic.

The difference in how much kilometers one runs at a given time would greatly differ. For example, I use to ride 60 kms. daily. In just a little over 2 months, I will clock 2000 kms. Now my ride has greatly decreased, hence it will take more time to clock 2000 kms. Just see how much you have run in 5 months.

Though I am using synthetic oil so I normally change @ 4k.

Oil burning up is not unusual, though it again differs from one motorcycle to another and how hard one rides. Top up is obviously required if oil is running low on condition that there is no unusual leakage or mechanical defects. Your manual may tell you how much oil is to be maintained at all times. Though strictly speaking, a 5 months oil if clocked more than 2k, it is better to change the entire oil rather than topping up.

But to be honest, I know almost nothing about Shogun. Perhaps someone familiar with it will give an accurate answer.
