Synthetic is good but costly, Synthetic oil is not a magic liquid that fixes all the issues; but it will reduce wear and tear of the engine

by the way how many kilometers covered after the last oil change

and what is the oil level (min or max or in between)

as said in my previous post just check the automobile shop for a good JASO MA2 standard oil.

stick to your bike manufacturers oil grade (example 10W-30 or 20W-50) check manual for further details
The oil level is in between and its been 2.5K since i've changed the engine oil....
Wat about Castrol Activ Xtra 20w50?????

2.5 k is almost the right time to replace for any mineral oil

Castrol is like super start top selling brand thus more duplicates are possible

if other good brands are not in reach go for the castrol that too try to get and changed from castrol bike zone

visit http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/pit-stop...tributors.html thread to see motul dealer details

for other brands check the respective brand website to find dealers

                • My bike is 97.2cc HH done only 2500Km now . First oil change was with the same as it had @ 600kms , i.e 10w30 extended drain HH oil that comes standard in with HH bikes now . ( earlier they were using 20w40 ) . Oil change is not recommended in owners manual yet untill 5500Kms ( standard drain period for HH 10w30 is 6000kms or six months , which comes first ) .
But in hot summers my bike , only 2500kms , is heating up too much and becomes a bit harsh sounding after 25-30 kms . So I am planning to change the oil to 20W40 mineral immediately . Is it good idea yet , or rather stick to the ASS HH 10w30 ?
Secondly , from long experience ,my city is full of chalu shopkeepers and I don't trust them one bit , so my source of oil is limited to the HH ASS supplied 10w30 ( presumably mineral ) , Yamaha ASS supplied oils(Yamalube) and petrol pumps of IOL / HP / Bharat .
Can someone tell me of a very good & cost effective 20w40 purely mineral oil in these circumstances ? Also the price ? The ASS supply HH 10w30 is 175Rs for 0.9L . I plan to drain in every 2000Kms .
Also would it be nice to drain the oil while the engine is run for sometime and hot , or after a while after it cools down ?
                  Pinaki .

                  • Been using castrol activ 4t for a long time on my splendor. it lasts till 2.5k kms. It around 200rs right now. if you do not trust other shopkeepers, then simply use HH oil and keep changing it at every 2000kms.

Yes , I am using the HH 10w30 now , but as I said the engine's a bit too hot too quickly for my liking . . So the 20w40 idea . I have access to Yamalube , does it come in 20w40 pure mineral ? good ? cost ?
Else I'll try servo or BP or HP 20w40 from petrol pumps cause these sources I know are genuine . No no to retail shops so no castrol shell elf motul etc .

Yamlube is nothing but repacked motul 3000 4t. Should cost you between 175-200rs. Am using Honda 20W40 on my Zma and am quiet satisfied with it. Else try Elf motogold.

Honda 20w40 you get from Honda service station ? Mineral ? What cost ? That would be reliable source too

What grade oil does your manual recommend you to use? I wouldn't advice you to change the grade of the oil. I had a splendor for 8 years and I always used 20W40 as mentioned in the manual and changed the oil regularly at 2000 kms. But I sold it 4 years ago. I was not aware that the splendors that come now require xW30 oil. Perhaps it has something to do with the Bharat Stage emission norms.

Whatever oil you use, make sure that the xW30 remains the same. You can use a different grade for the x coz that is the cold starting temperature.

If you are experiencing a lot of harshness in the engine, flush the oil once and refill the engine oil and keep checking the level. If the level is decreasing, then there is some oil being burnt away and is not a good sign. You might need to get the engine checked for any combustion leakages. Stick to mineral oil for at least 10K kms before switching to fully synth oils.
