15W40 is a different rating than that prescribed by the manufaturers right.?

What is recommended rating? If it is XW40, then you can use 15W40 as well.

yesterday i went to Castrol Bike Zone and I saw Castrol Power 1 racing fully synthetic oil, cost of about Rs 750 and the service guys claimed that it will last for 8K KM, I guess it was 10W40

            Any reviews regarding this oil?

I have used it, once, on my Pulsar 180 Classic and I found the gear shifts to be a lot smoother. I also felt that the vibrations were a little low as compared to mineral oil of Castrol, although I am pretty skeptical about using a xxW40 oil on a machine that is designed to use xxW50 rating oil. I haven't used it since.

You have a Pulsar 150, right Torque, which uses 20W40 oil, if I remember correctly. The Castrol Power 1 fully synthetic oil should work perfectly with your machine.
                :)

Just got back the Yamaha from a service last night. As done previosuly, i've used Castrol Magnatec once again.
My mech had called if i wanted to try Petronas this time around, thought i'd take some opinions for the next oil change.

Hit a major roadblock in my Motul buying plans yesterday
The product that's suggested for 150's in the Motul 300v range is rated as a 15W50..

However, the Honda-Idemitsu oil is rated at 20W40..
Could someone please tell me if its PERFECTLY alright if i make the switch to Motul's 15W50 or if i oughta consider some other brand/rating..?

Maverick, pls don't use a xW50 oil for ur Unicorn. Stick to xW40. Also, among the mineral oils the oil used by the service center (Honda Branded Idemitsu Oil) is a good one.

@sabret00the, the Motul 300v is not the recommended oil grade for your P180. But then, you can use this oil in ur bike with a little loss in pickup that you would probably appreciate because of the smoothness you gain ;-)

Thanks a ton for your reply. I hope using it wont harm the engine or the gear box, will it?

It won't. In fact, this oil works great for Pulsars... betters engine heat management and reduces vibrations.

Im really interested in switching to Motul..
Is there a 20W40 available in the Motul Semi-synth/mineral range..?
If yes, how much does a litre pack cost..?

The synthetic 300V series seems way too expensive for my meagre budget..
What's the drain interval specified for the 300V..?

                                EDIT : Lots of questions
Looking to make a well researched buy.. Hence all the niggling doubts...
