  • Re: Helmets

Am planning to purchase a SMK Helmet online but not sure which size would fit perfect. Currently am using LS2 Atmos XL Size and fits perfect and comfortable accommodating my eyeglasses too without any problem.

So if i purchase a SMK helmet of XL size, would it be as same as LS2 XL size? Appreciate any help...

Hey Guys! I'm from Pune and new to this thread - and looks like its done a tremendous job in helping people choose and buy helmets. I'm currently looking to replace my 4 year old Vega Cara helmet, which has already had a massive fall where my head slammed against the highway. I assume that it is not going to protect me the same way a second time, and I may be wrong but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have a budget of around 3k to 4k, which may stretch to 5 if required. Over the past few days, I'm been all over the inter-web looking for helmets, and it has had me thoroughly confused. I'd personally like to move away from ISI and prefer something with ECE and DOT certification - just for more safety, especially as I do some Rotax khart testing on the side. Among the brands, I have no idea whether to settle for something like a Vega Axxor, or reach out for the SMKs, MTs and SOLs.

Since it's been a while since I got a helmet, I am mainly very clueless. Any help would be immense, thank you in advance

Hi. If you can buy Sol, then it would be your best bet.

Hi Everyone, Currently I own Sol Unicorn 68SII. I am planning to upgrade my helmet. I have my eyes set on MT Revenge, MT Kre and Bell Qualifier. Mostly, I'll be using for long distance ride and Sunday rides so wind noise is a factor for me to consider. Any owner of these helmet can throw some light on these helmets.

I own a SOL SF-5 Alpha and been using it for over a year. I wouldn't not recommend it or atleast that model; bought it because I heard good things about the metal man model.

The D rings on mine started to rust after less than 6 months of use for one. Second, the top of the helmet has zero padding so it digs into your head and will give you nasty headaches after about 30-45 mins, less if the road is bumpy. Also it cost me Rs. 6650; not worth it in my opinion.

I would suggest going for a MT, have tried them and they feel a lot better than my SOL; padding, feel and fit wise.

DS Moto has a pretty good collection of MTs, was there 2 weekends ago. The least expensive one that they had was around 4500 I think.

Sent from my SM-N920G using xBhp Connect mobile app

Thanks a lot for that insightful advice. I have actually been looking around for a month now, and have been confused by the number of options available. I am inclined towards the MT Mugello, but there are very very few reviews about it.

I spoke to DS moto yesterday, and they seemed really keen and customer friendly. I'll visit them later this week and let you know how it goes.

I have a SOL Unicorn and have MT Mugello as my secondary helmet. I can safely say MT has much better liners. Also, the quality and feel of visor is excellent when compared to Sol. The only thing that made me cling to SOL Unicorn is the LED lights at the back and cool looking blue iridium visor. But this is going to be my first and last SOL helmet.

Thank you so much - I am so happy I've found a Mugello owner. This helmet decision is a BIG jump for me, from the Vega Cara, so I'm leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that I get the safest helmet within an extended budget. I don't know if this is asking too much, and I'm sorry if it is, but could you provide a brief review and some pics of your Mugello?

Message me the things you wish to know about the helmet and I will gladly answer you.

A quick question to those who have been using or are considering SMK helmets. I went to the store today where I came across three different SMK helmets, one of them being the popular Twister. At the back, when I looked for the certification, I found that the ECER 22.05 bit NOT embossed, but was a tiny sticker. I saw this in two places - Planet DSG and at Champion Sports in Pune. If I draw parallels to the LS2 fiasco, where there were questions about authenticity raised based on stickers instead of embossing, should I trust SMK or look away from them? The store owner refused to let me take a picture. Can someone who owns an SMK maybe post pictures of how the ECE certification on their helmets look?

Just to clarify, SMK is just one of my options, I'm looking at MTs as well.

                                Thank you
