[QUOTE=siddharthmsc;1304045]Hey Guys! I'm from Pune and new to this thread - and looks like its done a tremendous job in helping people choose and buy helmets. I'm currently looking to replace my 4 year old Vega Cara helmet, which has already had a massive fall where my head slammed against the highway. I assume that it is not going to protect me the same way a second time, and I may be wrong but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Check out Open Roads at Phoenix Mall. They stock a variety of brands to suit various budgets.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new helmet.

My budget is 6-7k. I want a helmet that is useful for everyday use as well as for the occasional long ride, if that's possible.
        I ride a Pulsar 200AS.

I went to a shop and looked at the MT Revenge - it felt way too sporty for everyday use, (unless someone can correct me).
I liked the MT Blade - but someone online mentioned something about wind blowing inside on the face while riding, leading to squinting. Someone else replied that the Blade is made for more forward-leaning riding positions instead of a upright position. Any thoughts on this?

In any case, other recommendations in my range for daily+long-ride use?

          • Studds Shifter/THH Query (Not which helmet to buy, one particular "senior" member)

Alright I spent last afternoon and eve searching for a helmet under 5-6K. Visited 2 places for now in pathetic rains - Destination Moto(I buy my gears from there usually, nice guy Manish there) and Moto Central.

I got a couple options - SMK, SOL, MT and THH and Studds but found out that M(57+) in none of those helmets is a snug fit for a shittyass small face of mine. I thought an M would do but most helmets also being very large from outside, were wobbling from cheek area.

Only 2 helmets were better fit of all of the above - THH TS-81 and Studds Shifter, both were available in same M size though. Now I present a three-part query to you folks-

            1. The 2017 range of Studds Shifter available in both of those stores is ISI certified, as per them the DOT ones were sparsely available and are there for export. Now I'm not a DOT aficionado, its another honor based certification as far as I know but my question to people who bought the DOT certified Shifter -
Does a DOT certified 2017 Shifter have the same shell and padding as the ISI cert'd one? Just because they are exporting in USA, they have to label it DOT, correct?(or not) And are these Shifters any good compared to THH or a low end MT?

            2. I practically found way lesser reviews of THH helmets than I thought I would, any recent THH owners would like to pitch in and tell me how good are they for next 2-3 years?

            3. I'm planning to visit other 2 stores(OpenRoad and Decathalon) once these crappy rains settle down, however does any Punekar have any advice for another reputed stores?

**My biggest problem is with size which is my first preference now, M in most brands is not a snug fit for me, so I guess a S should work.

I'm treating a high range ISI helmet same as a DOT ones, from what I've read on web in last few months. Does anyone see any problem with this approach?

If only I find and get to test MT Mugello in Small size.

            Thanks in advance and regards.

I understand the pain of riding in the rains to get a new helmet - I faced the same problem last week. The problem with DS Moto is that he is now moving to a new place, because of which the stock is very limited. I went last thursday and found only a handful of helmets, and only one in my size. Same with open road, although the owners, both Gagan and JP are incredibly friendly and helpful

I had been researching for helmets for the last 2 months, and I've visited DS Moto, Open Road and Probiker in camp. The first two are resellers, while pro biker is MT's and SPGs primary distributor in Pune. As I recall, he did have a large range of MT helmets, and the Mugello small was there. I faced a similar problem as you, where the M was slightly bigger, but when I tried on a Small, it was impossible to fit, with my mouth as good as hitting the shell when I wore it. So I stuck to the medium. You will find a small Mugello there.

Although, if I could suggest, the Mugello and Axxis come in only one shell size, and MT uses different levels of padding for different sizes. If you could expand to the Thunder or Blade, you'd get better sizing since they make them in more than one shell. The Thunder is 1.5k more and the Blade 2k more as compared to the Mugello.

Also, you can try Planet DSG in camp for SMK helmets. This is in the lane next to Marzorin, and they have a wide range of KYT and SMK helmets. The SMK force seems to be a brilliant helmet. So whether or not it's raining, you could park your bike in camp and hit pro biker and planet dsg and make a choice.

I use a Blade Reflexion for touring. It can be used for daily use as well because few friends have been using for more than a year. And yes air comes in, I have heard some sounds but now I use a balaclava so that's gone. I was told this before buying as well. And its great for riding in a upright posture as well (my bikes being D390 and ZMR).

                  Hello Everyone,

I was planning to go for a Helmet upgrade, as my current Gmaxx 54s has worn out very badly. I have Nolan N91 modular in my mind, does anyone use any nolan helmets and it shows that it weighs 3.6kgs, is this weight normal, my current helmet is very heavy so looking for a lighter one with budget pricing possibly in brands such as HJC,Nolan or Scorpion.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Thanks for the response and looks like we're sailing the same boat buddy. Strangely enough, Manish(Dest. Moto) didn't talk about the shifting. He had decent SMK and LS2 stock but all too big for me.

I disliked the concept of a single shell because even a medium or small one in these brands end up looking wider than my shoulders, though safety first; looks second, still I'd prefer not carrying a boulder on my head.

I've been to P-DSG but in my last visit for gloves I found the staff kinda disinterested, but I need my options so will pay a visit; also to OpenRoad and ProBiker too.

BTW, you ended up buying a Mugello-M, correct? Can you share some pics with it on your head and a little feedback if your time allows?

Cheers and safe riding in Monsoon.

Hey man! As far as I know, DS Moto is moving - it says so on their facebook page as well, I think in one of the photos. Manish was a really good guy and very helpful, but he was quite clear that they weren't going to restock for a while. I found Planet DSG quite decent, the guy was helpful (not as much as Manish or Probiker) but still had a good talk - and his range of SMKs and KYTs was quite decent - although the KYTs had no certifications which I found quite odd.

So here is the thing - I went to camp to buy the Mugello, but when I found that the mugello and the axxis have only one shell, it became a safety issue. People like you and I, who have smaller head sizes are affected most. The shell is build to handle even the largest (XXLs), so the slightest bedding of the foam and the helmet would become loose for us, which would impact safety.

With all this in mind, my hunt was between the Blade and the Thunder, both of which have multiple shells. In the end, I purchased a reflexion blade SV for 6250. This was size M, because when I tried the S, it was just way to small (I also wear glasses, so very snug means that the glasses don't align properly)

I wish i could send photos, but two days after buying the helmet, I noticed a manufacturing defect (despite having had a decent look at the helmet before buying). One side of the vent hadn't fit into the notch quite correctly, and I had to send it to SPG in chennai for them to inspect and see if it needs replacement. Well - things happen :/

I should hear back from them early next week, and when I do get the helmet, I will post photos and a review on here - both of the helmet, but also of the SPG customer service. In the meantime, if you have any questions, fire away!
