• Re: Helmets

I used to race in the UK, and especially in endurance races, the specs and the visor would easily fog up (especially at night). The cheapest and the easiest way to avoid this is by wiping your visor, and if you want, your glasses with a mixture of water and washing liquid. This works wonders for the visor - I haven't tried it for my glasses. The easiest way to avoid spectacles from fogging up would be by leave a finger width of space open at the bottom. Usually works.

I recently purchased an MT Blade SV Reflexion helmet from ProBiker in Pune. The reason I am writing this post is because there has been very little on this thread about SPGs customer service, something that I had to interact with for the past few days. So this is a review of how SPG works when it comes to after sales service and hopefully, comes of use for some of you'll.

I got my helmet on Thursday (13/07) for 6,250 from SPGs primary seller, Probiker. While I did inspect the helmet at the store, I seem to have admittedly not done a complete inspection before buying and paying for it. A day after the purchase (the helmet was unworn and unused because of the rains here), I noticed that the vent on the rear right side was raised, and didn't fit into it's notch. This was very distressing for me, and since I can get as pedantic as possible, I thought that this might be because the helmet was probably dropped by the reseller and may not be a 100 percent.

I wrote to SPG at [email protected] on Saturday morning, and didn't expect to hear back from them until Monday. On Monday, their head of alternate channel sales, Muthulaksmi R got in touch with me and asked me to send the helmet for a physical inspection. I immediately packed the helmet in the box it came in, double bubble wrapped it and sent it on its way with DTDC. The courier cost me Rs 1,200. It reached them in Chennai on Wednesday morning, and I immediately got a mail from Muthulakshmi R suggested that a replacement would be sent the next day. True to their word, on thursday, one week since I'd purchased the helmet, SPG dispatched my new helmet via DTDC couriers and provided me with a tracking ID. This reached me the next day, and the new helmet was the same colour and size. The was just a very very small dent near where the rubber along the visor is, but I'm not going to be too worried about that. SPG also issued me with a Rs. 300 credit note immediately, and I used it to buy a new iridium visor as well.

All in all, SPGs service has been superb. I was worried about how a helmet distributor would deal with such an issue (this is my first time returning a helmet), but I was impressed with the professionalism and punctuality in communication and their operations. My only gripe was that the box in which the helmet came was torn and soggy because of the rains - and upon giving them this feedback, they said they were already working on a new out box design.

I've attached the images of the manufacturing defect below:

2 days back my existing helmet (Gift) visor came off. Detent mechanism came out from cam stud.

Went to Mumbai (A H Helmets) and bought MT Revenge Binomy (GST made price hike up by 750 INR). Desired colour is not available but decided function > look which i can alter later.

I travelled in complete rain from Nashik to Mumbai in complete public transport (been standing for 14 hours, train after train). I was thinking that the helmet and after sales be better worth effort

Now saw your post and good to hear about the after sales.

Fogging

Thanks for the input @siddharthmsc
I attended skiing course this February and my skiing goggles and spectacles used to fog up by the time we walked up to the slopes. I even hit a boundary wall going downhill due to fogged up vision.

Tried methods

1. Anti fog spray + dry time overnight = Fail in 10 mins

2. Johnson baby tearless shampoo (best ) + dry overnight = 4 hours (less if goggles removed)

3. Spit (used by scuba divers) = Nope

4. Tooth paste = 30 mins
It's the best in the segment. Been using it for abt 10 months and all I can say is it is the best this segment'll offer. If u wanna go for a double d-ring strap, prefer MT Mugello (4250/-) but I'm not sure about the quality of the MTs.

Loving the MT Mugello Viper, the comfort is top notch, till 100kmph, could not find any wind noise. Also since I have bluetooth installed and the helmet is quite snug fit, wind noise wont be any problem.

Bell Qualifier, bought it for 10k(15k via import route at the time) a couple of months ago, coming from a MT Blade. If longevity is not an issue then you'd be better going for the MT Revenge as its 5 star Sharp rated compared to the 3 star rating of the qualifier.

Even I am looking to go for Bell Qualifier. Could you help me with couple of questions:
1) Which of the two have better inner lining. Bell Qualifier or MT Blade?
2) How bad is the wind noise? At what speed does it start creeping in?
3) Does Qualifier fog up frequently as MT have tendency to fog up quite easily.

Any other con that you would like to share. Looking to upgrade from SOL Unicorn.

1. Blade has better padding from a quantity perspective. But that being said I'd rather prefer the padding be less felt when using the helmet, in that pov Bell wins hands down.

2. Visor down Bell takes care of most of the wind noise, only issue is the slight whistle made by the thingi on the visor. The blade kinda hums which is weird.

3. Bell doesn't fog up when riding. It doesn't have a deflector but there's a thingi on the visor which takes care of that, that same thing is responsible for the whistle.

Completely from a purpose(safety) fulfillment angle the MT Revenge is the way to go. If ergonomics is given priority then Bell it is.

Blade vs Bell = Bell.
Revenge vs Bell = Revenge.
Purely from the safety POV.

How are the visors (it has dual visors with one being simple other bring the sun visor) ? There is an air vent above the helmet , does it create problem in rain ? There is also a heat extractor at back, how is that ? Finally , how is the fogging issue in the helmet ?
