Both are good helmets. But I'd say go for SOL personally, since it provides excellent air flow and for that cost, it's one of the best helmets you can get.

    Go for SOL eyes closed.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

First off, I've been using the RJays lid for the past one year and it's been all smiles and I have their top-of-the-line AIROH GP 500 helmet which is a pretty EXCELLENT helmet, Italian heritage there. Excellent construction, excellent quality and excellent design, what not. But the fit is far too tighter.

      Now pros of RJays
Been using it for one year, good snug fit, excellent vision and good wind flow.
      Nice graphics and good quality.
NUVO and RJays are all made in the same factory using the same moulds, now I dunno how many of them know this.

      Cons
      A tad too costlier.
Quality of the internal components could be bit better, but for that price it's not a big deal.
The certification doesn't come as a printed one but as a sticker, which makes it look like a cheap helmet.

      Pros AIROH
EXCELLENT in whatever ways you can call it
+1000 for the lightweight, weighs close to 1000 to 1100 grams. GP 500 that is, no idea what other thermoplastic helmets' weight are.

      Cons
Too tighter fit, I usually wear a L size, but this is is way too tighter for me, since it's a racing helmet, it's usually a little tighter side.

Pricing could have been a little lower, but for a high-end race helmet,

      To conclude
      =======

It's not a wise idea to bring in RJays to compare with AIROH, but then both are helmets and do their job well.

I've been more more comfortable wearing an RJays than an AIROH. I use RJays when I tour which gives excellent comfort, AIROH for short jaunts and anything around 100 to 200 KMS range. Never a day I've experienced of RJays creating a headache or neck pain whatsoever, hearing it for the first time, strange.

Go for what your budget allows and the best you can afford.

      Cheers!

Thanks for your response VJ. How much did you shell out on the GP500?

What's your take on the Airoh- Speedfire Joker @ 7900 bucks? Have you tried it or know anyone who owns it?
The tighter fit could be compensated for if I went for a size larger.

If the HJC that I'm waiting for at PRS don't impress me, I have to choose from the Airoh, KBC and Sparx and an authentic Italian helmet at 7900 feels like a better deal than a Korean/ China made KBC and Sparx at 8- 8.5k

i ordered the helmet fro ridersdiscount.com

it costed me Rs.27000(including shipping, customs, smoked visor, clear visor and two pinlock inserts) where as the same helmet costs 35000 in PRS(excluding shipping, pinlocks, smoked visor)

hope this gives you a fair idea over benefits of getting helmet from outside

The other options I have are Airoh Speedfire- Joker, Sparx S-07, KBC (entry-level VR at 8k.)
i totally love the helmet i am using right now not so sure about the other models!!

              • Sol & ls2

                Hi Guys,
                Last week I went to A H Helmets in Mumbai in a mood to buy SOL Full face helmet. I tried SL68 S & SL 68 S2 in L & M size.
I felt L was a bit loose around my cheeks & would "wobble" a bit as I test its clearance around my head. Then I tried M, it was tight fit around the cheeks & the owner said the padding would loosen up in a matter of weeks. But I found the helmet to be on a heavier side. It was putting pressure at specific points on by head.
Hence I tried different combos of padding (Cheek & Head) & shell.
To compare it with other Helmets, I tried LS2 & felt it to be quite light & not putting pressure to top surface of head.
I wanted to buy SOL but was not sure whether to because of above mentioned reasons & hence came out empty handed.
So the question is - > whether SOL is much heavier than LS2 or is it just my perception?
Though SOL kind of puts pressure on top of skull, shall i still buy it assuming it would loosen up?
Please suggest as I am going to Mumbai this weekend!

                • hello everyone!
I've got a cross helmet, matte finish black, this morning i lost one of the removable paddings which support the neck and also help in maintaining a snug and firm fit.
Can i get a spare pair of paddings in bangalore?
If yeah, please post the address of the shop where it is available. It would relieve my worries.
                  Thank you in advance.

I've had a chance to see many SOL helmets once when I was on a trip. Now, SOL is a good helmet, not the best, but excellent one for the the price and yes it's a little bit on the heavy side, but once it's on the head, it just feels normal, nothing so significant of a pain elsewhere. Keeping in mind, everyone's need are different and heads are of different size, it's best to choose your helmets wearing them for pressure points and pain areas.

When a helmet is on, it shouldn't cause any pain whatsoever or pressure points whatsoever. It must be snug, comfortable and there must be a very little play just to let the air flow inside your helmet.

Be it SOL or LS2 pick the one which is comfortable and which suits the best for you. Going just for brand sake and compromising comfort and safety is a big no-no. Go for what your budget allows and what suits you best.

Bought SOL Metal Man Silver/Grey yesterday for Rs. 5150/- from S.M.Studios mulund. The helmet is great i bought XL size, the padding is tight on cheeks and forehead which holds the helmet very well no wobble nothing. The padding won't get lose after wearing for 'N' number of times simply great. Ventilation is good and what i like the most about it the ears gets tucked inside the compartment which they have provided, no ear getting numb or hurting after prolonged use( i wear glasses so + point for me). Comparing the weight tried many LS2 before buying SOL the weight is almost the same no difference.

Thanks for that man...made my choice easier. My budget is around 8k as most of the brands I'm lookin at fall in that bracket.

I called up PRS y'day and they said the HJC range will take atleast 1 month to come in. Have been waiting for 2 mnths now and have barely ridden the bike as I'm helmetless
Now the only thing left is to try the Airoh (I wasn't allowed to..remember? )But does it have ECE certification printed on the rear ? as I can't recall seeing it.

Also, I've heard about the entry-level AGVs being sold at around 8.5k. Any dope on them? Are they authentic?? I asked the SOL dealer here but he said he's run out of stock and has only the 14k ones.

Yeah, the SOL is quite hefty, ain't it! I think it's one of the heaviest in the sub-10k segment. Go for the SL 68 S2 as it's a tad lighter thanks to the omission of the LED module. However I agree that once you've selected the right size and start using it, you'll get accustomed soon as the fit is very snug.

And if you haven't made your choice yet and can extend your budget, head to Bachoo Motors ,PRC if you can and try Rjays, KBC, Airoh all of which are lighter and no less safer.
                              Good luck!
