I'm not sure if he was wearing a helmet or not, since he was riding a scooter and not his Ninja at the time ( not that it's an excuse) but I cannot stress more the importance of wearing a helmet at ALL times.

Cannot even imagine the trauma his wife and kids are going through.

I received very sad news two days ago - was on a ride to Kodaikanal so could not update -

The friend I mentioned above passed away without ever regaining consciousness. Cause of death, head-injury.

The 38 year-old leaves behind a wife and infant child. My prayers are for the family.

Now here's the lesson to be learnt - he NEVER rode to a meet without full gear - from head to toe. However on that fateful day, he was going to a place nearby his home and he decided to take his wife's scooter. The combination of proximity to his home and the fact he was riding just a scooter relaxed him to the point where he chose not to wear his helmet.

If he had chosen to wear his helmet that day as he normally did when he rode his 650r, its very likely he would be alive today and his child would have a father.

Let us learn from this tragedy - NEVER ride without a helmet, no matter how small the bike, no matter how short a distance.

The best gear in the world is no guarantee that we will survive a crash - but what we love to do is dangerous enough without the odds being stacked against us. Be smart and be responsible. We owe it to ourselves and our families.

                      • I have browsed through a lot of pages but I am still confused.
I currently own a Vega Boolean but obviously want something better.
How are Daijya helmets? Any idea about the safety of Nuvo? I am looking for good helmets below 6K. Safety and comfort is what I want.
Long rides on a vega leaves a pain in my neck.

Given the price range, I think SOL, Nuvo and Daijya would be your best bets. Have come across some good user reviews about SOL...Best would be try out for yourself which of these makes you more comfortable since these would be on equal terms in respect of safety

                            • Sunny - That is sad to hear. I keep telling my friends to wear their riding gear when they go for a quick spin around the block but it always falls on deaf ears. And this is with the well educated middle class Indian crowd. At the end of the day, safety is not something that we should ever take lightly.

Theres a lot of uncertainity about the Daijya helmets. I would recommend you stay away from them. Do some research and you will find the threads on other forums and this. See if you can get Sparx / KBC in that price range. You have good options given your budget.

Thanks. That is something even I have read and learnt and hence the thoughts of going with Nuvo.
