Re: Helmets
Be very careful with the visor for scratch, once if there is any small scratch then night riding will be very hard.i own a dual sport plain white and facing the glare problem due to few scratches. So be careful and use micro fibre cloth when you clean it.Originally posted by RoboRider View PostRight now, there are no scratches on the visor, so sometimes I forget there is a visor. Very clear while I have been driving inside Bangalore at night

Thanks for the info guyz....Actually you both are lucky to have such awesome deals. Here when I said about 3k to the shopkeepers they facial expressions are like "WTF! Anyway as you said I have decided not to go for boolean. I didnt like fit and finish. The only thing i liked in it was the dual visor feature.
Anyway I will save some more money and buy a better one like LS2.
DivyaSharan Can you help me in the above case. Do you have any contacts where they sell Ls2 in 3k range in bangalore?---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Helmets
to prospective buyers of sparx helmets.the front and. rear vent ports at the top are there for show only.they are not actual ports.s07 model.no wonder I was sweating a lot.
a workaround would be to open up the ports located at top corners of the visor.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

Re: Helmets
HELP!!
For a mix of touring and city usage, how would the motocross style helmets fare over the usual full face helmets?? I have never used a motocross style helmet, so was wondering if the shape and the top cap would cause any disturbance, noise during higher speeds?
I am looking at a light weight helmet, which offers good protection, and some protection to the visor, where i do not have to change them frequently, and a helmet which is good on noise reduction at higher speeds. my budget is around 5-6k. i was contemplating SOL SS1 Ultimate,
Spartan ProGear
Any tips, advice, pointers in this regard would be highly helpful.
Currently i use a full face cross helmet, which is about 4 yrs old and on its 6th visor. guess its time to get a new lid.

Re: Helmets
Nasir sir - My personal opinion is - Motocross helmets aren't all that great if you are touring. 4 years - the helmet is way past its life. If budget is not a concern, you should look at HJC IS17. its a sports touring helmet.Originally posted by nasirkaka View PostHELP!!

Re: Helmets
Have been reading about the helmet on this and other forums and most people have given a mixed response. I saw the helmet at the friends place, and tried it. fitted well, and felt considerably lighter then my current cross helmet. Also, the are of view appeared to be wider. Most importantly, a majority of my daily rides are at night, where i HAVE to put the visor down, as the area a travel through is full of dust and HTV traffic. although i take caution, the visor gets damaged (scratches) in no time. I have tried using a clear PC cycling goggles from decathlon with visor up, helps protect the eye adequately, but the breathing all the dust is an issue. using a balaclava, fogs the goggles. So the top cover (peak) of the sol dual sport appeared as an attractive feature to protect the visor during day to day usage.SOL SS1 is a very good dual sport helmet ............. could you share your experience in-terms of what all would be negatives? i am a bit concerned about the lift at 100+ because of the peak. Also not too sure now how effective they are at wind noise at higher speeds. budget is a bit flexible, but for a really good one, may have to wait a while.Originally posted by Shubz View PostNasir sir - My personal opinion is - Motocross helmets aren't all that great if you are touring. 4 years - the helmet is way past its life. 1. There is a difference between a dual sport helmet & a motocross helmet. Please google for details.
2. To save your helmet visor from catching scratches you should use the fabric pouch that comes with the helmet to store it be it office or home. On the go, the visor is bound to face the dust, which should only be washed away gently under the running water tap and then dried with tissue/toilet roll, this practice avoids minor scratches which are pretty evident specially during night when the light of an oncoming vehicle scatters on the visor.
3. It is always suggested to use a product for which it has been designed. That is, if you are into Motocross everyday then go for a good motocross helmet otherwise you are wasting the product. The Cheap Motocross helmets available in the market are a pure joke and offer zero protection, so avoid it at any cost.
4. A very senior member on this thread has reported to use the SS1 on a Ninja 650R at speeds around 150 kmph and he never came across any wind lift.
5. Wind noise is going to be there even if you stretch your budget to 10k. So, the best practice is to use earbuds only when touring, since Indian traffic do not bless us with the freedom to ride in the city at 100+ speeds.
I hope this answers many of your points. Please use the thread search and google search as requested above for some past reviews

Re: Helmets
Nasir bhai - I have never used a motocross helmet. so i wouldn't know. But as pranav put it, each have their uses. so need to be used accordingly. you may be severely hampered with a motocross helmet on a long touring ride. Always have clear visor. the smoked one's are good just for the day on a very bright sunny day. vison is hampered if the light is poor, in fog, during dawn, dusk. And if the visor fogs - you may kiss the vision good bye.Originally posted by nasirkaka View PostHave been reading about the helmet on this and other forums and most people have given a mixed response. The higher end helmets have better visors. more resistant to scratched. but not entirely scratch proof. You got to care for your visor. and not use palm to rub off the dust grime stuck on it.
Wind noise - Unavoidable!

* motocross helmets are more open and allow greater ventilation for the typical slow speed.
* mostly do not come with a visor, and used in combination with MC goggles
* peak for protection from sun mainly
Dual sport is trying to bridge the gap between the motocross and a typical street helmet, not sure how successfully it manages to do that, as i have never used one. so wanted feedback from the people who have used a dual sport in various conditions.
I am clear on the point that i am not looking at a typical motocross helmet. Was specifically interested in the SOL SS1 ultimate DS, as i tried it at a friends place and sort of liked it. (also, i think it goes well with the D390, but aesthetics are not much important to me). The helmet felt light weight and with better visibility, and priced at an affordable point for me. the peak appeared like a useful feature to add some extra protection to the visor. i have a airforce pilot replica helmet which i use occasionally on lazy sunday rides on my C5. this one comes with a dual visor and a protector on the top that functions wonderfully.
Headgear - Replica Chinese Airforce Jet Pilot Helmet -- White was sold for R850.00 on 8 Mar at 10:31 by Walker Wargame in Johannesburg (ID:32508188)
coming back to SOL SS1, its comforting to hear that its been tried at high speeds without much lift etc. IS that senior member on the forum? could send him a pm asking more details on the same.
I am a bit worried on the noise factor, based on my last visor change experience on the cross. As the visors with OEM fitments are not available, i replaced the plastic mounts to suit the new fitment visor, and the new setup is much much more noiseier then the previous one at 100+ speed, to the extent that it gets annoying over time. so the noise factor difference in a SOL SS1 vs another street helmet in the same range was my concern.
