Completely agree. But a good full helmet with chin protection will cost much more.

So be it! Head is priceless. One can save for a month or two and get a decent helmet easily and I feel it's time people understand the gravity of the situation.

Completely agree, when you can opt for a good bike, you should save some moolah for at least a decent full face helmet. Its the primary riding gear which will save you almost always in case of a fall. While less price does not always mean less quality, in case of helmets, a little bit extra would definitely get you a better quality one.

I had a friend who used a cross helmet that costed above 10 grand and rode a platina
Everyone made fun of him that the bike costs 50k and helmet 10k+
A lot of friends went for a ride
A rider hit a pothole and his bike slid and he fell, 2 riders behind him crashed in to him and all three fell
A guy wearing cheap motocross type hemet died in a crash due to head trauma but no broken bones riding a p220
The platina guy and a guy wearing an ls2 riding a p180 survived with injuries but no head injuries just broken leg and ribs
im not sayin this happens to everyone but just an example.
Both of them threw their helmets after the crash even though they had superficial damage.
Im not saying these brands are best coz de cost a lot,
Its just that its worth to buy these..

Nice lines. Indeed helmets are vry vry important piece of riding gear. One shud definitely go for at least a gud full face helmet with DOT/ECE certification.

Nowadays, in my locality everyone is buying this Adonis helmet. Vry cheap, but there's no padding & the shell is sooo thin. Wonder if it'll break in a single fall !!

No idea about fall but yes the chin are can be broken with bare hand (done it) plus there is no protection for lower back area of the head (just above the neck)

                    Guys,

I heard that LS2 helmets you get in ndia for around 3.5 to 4.5 K are some certifications rejects from Europe that land in India. Good LS2 cost 10K plus.
Also, there are other brands such as Shark (French) and HJC (American) and probably many more.
What is a good brand? What would a good helmet cost? By good I mean, one that can protect you in a serious crash?
Iam confused. Any pointers, experiences pls....

                    Thanks,

A good brand has good helmets. Good helmets are those that protect you to a good extent in slow/medium paced falls. A crash at 100+ kmph with any helmet can be lethal.
(as bare explanation as I could frame)

I generally try to avoid LS2 helmets as it is very difficult to get a genuine one here in Delhi. Although this is the case, genuine LS2s dont sell for 10K or above (except a couple of models). At the same range you can get MT helmets (Axxis ,Braking) costing ~4k.

To answer your question about good brands in helmets, the brands that have been around for some time and which have a lot of experience in making safe helmets are considered good. As you mentioned, HJC, Shark, KBC, Shoei, Shuberth, Arai, etc are brands that spend considerable amount on R&D to create a good helmet. Like everything else, the helmet design and construction is as important as the materials involved in its construction.
I don't know of any helmets that are below ~20K, which are recommended for professional track riders or for someone who religiously ride fast. A decent quality helmet like SOL, HJC -(lower end), should protect you in case of falls in the range of ~120kmph, from the reviews I have read. But, if you can extend your budget for the bigger brands then that is best.

So I gather that around 20K would be a good price for a decent helmet.

Ohh sorry, I didn't make myself clear. What I meant was that only a couple of models from LS2 cost above 10K, the rest cost at around 3 - 5K. Getting a genuine LS2 however is not easy.

Price is not a decisive factor. If it was Schuberth helmet should have been used in MotoGP/Isle races as it falls under the costliest helmets. What matters is how strong they are, what tests they go through, how rigorous those tests are. Again these tests are not guarantee that the helmet will save you head in all conditions. Its always better to opt for "better" helmets when one can.
BTW only the LS2 carbon fibre costs 10k.
