If they could fake the whole helmet, do you think that it would be difficult to fake some stickers and a bag?Originally posted by Mail2vasant View PostIt is really easy to spot out the fake sparx ones. the quality, finish, packaging speaks for itself. it comes with a munual, 2 stickers and spare eye brow vents. it comes in a black and orange bag and of course the box.
I've been working with helmets and riding gear everyday now for about three years and have seen literally hundreds. Let me tell you that even then I have a problem identifying the fakes from the genuine article.
The fake market exists so that they can sell the duplicate item for the original's price - don't be fooled by pricing either. It is the desperate trader who will suddenly drop the price of the fake to rotate cash. He cannot do that with genuine articles because his cost itself would be higher. Conversely, a trader with deep pockets will hold even duplicate stocks to sell at higher prices if he can afford to.
The quickest way to identify a fake is from the weight. Genuine DOT or ECE helmets have to have a certain heft and shell thickness to pass the stringent impact penetration tests. The ones that can need to have a stronger shell and will automatically have a certain weight (between 1400-1800gms) unless they are made of exotic materials like carbon fibre. The shell is one of the more expensive components of a helmet so duplicates typically use a thinner shell to save on the material and save money. Most duplicates therefore are lighter than the original model that they are made to represent.
However, I must tell you that even this technique is now being caught on by the fakers and I have actually come across a few new generation fakers which have been artificially "weighted" to give the feeling of heft!!
Another common faker give-away is that most international brands use multiple shells to get different sizes. Fakers normally use just one and then play with the padding to get a fit. This is because helmet moulds cost a fortune and making multiples would make faking non-profitable.
@ Ynike - I strongly suggest that you avoid anyone else and buy only from PRS if you want a genuine Sparx/KBC.

+100 to every single point made. And don't forget the warranty too, I don't know how in the world they offer warranty to fakes too. I guess it's "just like that"Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! Fakes are fakes no matter, the box, sticker, bags etc. It's considered "fake" as a whole. It'd doesn't much effort to replicate mere stickers and bags and covers if they can literally fake a complete helmet.Originally posted by Mail2vasant View PostIt is really easy to spot out the fake sparx ones. the quality, finish, packaging speaks for itself. it comes with a munual, 2 stickers and spare eye brow vents. it comes in a black and orange bag and of course the box.

The girl said, 'NO!'

I have already posted this in the 'indian made helmet' Thread. Now i am reposting the same here as i am planning to buy another helmet also
I use a Studds chrome helmet and I find it good. The reason I bought it is when I bought the bike I didn't have a helmet and the near by shops had only Studds.
The greatest difficulty in buying a helmet for me is the size. My head is small so most of the helmets I tried were just wobbling on head.
The best fit I got was the Chrome. When I bought the visor was tinted as only it was available. Later changed to a clear visor.
The advantages I see in this helmet are
Not expensive
The shell is not painted and the plastic is textured so no scratches or paint peeling off. I find this the best thing about this helmet.
Disadvantages I felt are
The chin area does not have sufficient padding.
No proper vents for air to enter.
Non removable liners (as it is an entry level helmet). This is the single reason why I want another helmet.
Now I am planning to buy a new one. I don't want to buy too expensive ones as I have the habit of dropping the helmet and in this matter my current one is good as it is not a painted one.
Please suggest me a good helmet. My budget is for a medium range.

Medium range budget? If you can quote "numbers" that'd be helpful to advice some. But since you've mentioned "medium" why not Vega Cara or Studds range. Cheap and best!
Why not extend a little bit and get yourself the SOL, the most number of vents I've known on any helmetsOriginally posted by ramdante View PostGuys best helmet sub 4k range with best ventilation and something which can avoid helmet hair to a certain extent??

and has gotten pretty good reviews too.

For 5k, why not go for SOL other than LS2. These have a little snugger fit, since you've mentioned you have a small head. Yes the liners on this helmet are removable ones, both on Scorpion and Vega Cara and LS2 and SOL.Originally posted by rxdude View PostA maximum of 5000 INR.

Thanks for the reply man. Any idea how how the ventilation will be compared against my Ls2 Combat?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post

Also, do the cheaper helmets(sub 1200) helmets have better ventilation than all these premium priced ones?

I've never worn the LS2 Combat, but I reckon it isn't any different than LS2 Phobia. And SOLs ventilation is really good, though whistles (which isn't a lot) you can bet your head with SOL.Originally posted by ramdante View PostThanks for the reply man. Thank you B7ackthorn for the advice. Now I will search for one when I go to cities or metro. The place I stay is a small town and these helmets are not even heard of.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostI'd suggest you go for SOL for snug fit and for ventilation.
I can't order one online again due to the head size.
