Was driving at 70kmph on the ORR Bangalore today at 7:30AM, when a Tempo Traveler, probably driving at 80-90 speed, hit me from the side and drew away, in a clear case of hit and run.

Luckily all the impact on the bike (p220f) was taken by the handle bar and the engine guard. Nothing happened to the fairing.

Regarding myself, a lot of impact taken by my palms, knees, elbows.
Right palm's, both elbows and knees' skin has come off.........
This is common with most bikers out there. I've seen oodles of bikers out there, having very good helmets, and their GFs holding them for these guys or they just slide it up to their head crown and hold it there like some sunglass stand. The sunglass stand type (for a lack of better term) where the helmet is locked at the crown of the head is the most common scene I see apart from removing them and either the pillion holding it or wearing, but not the rider.

And just a few months back in Ooty, a very young couple, crashed with his GF to an oncoming car while taking a dangerous corner in my town. The issue was there was a pothole right at the turn (left hander) to avoid the pothole this guy in his FZ16 tried to dodge by going right, at which moment a white Palio KA registered hit them head on. They both perished on the spot. When we saw the pics, both the girl and the boy had no injuries whatsover in their body, just except minor scratches, but their death was due to impact shock from head.

If they'd have worn the helmets those two poor souls would have gotten another day to fly by.

But a general thought. It's not about 5000 to 50,000 bucks helmet, but the fact to use it as it's supposed to be.

      Cheers!
      VJ
Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

        STATUS UPDATE

Though the Company is not liable for the damages, it was felt that a young college student should not be made suffer such a big loss for his mistake of blindly trusting the courier who was clearly at fault. Spartan ProGear has therefore offered to replace the helmets with brand new ones at no extra cost to Hunkofgals (Phaneendra).

The new helmets will be shipped out to him as soon as the old ones are returned as the Company has taken up the onus of its own accord to pursue recovery of damages if possible from the courier company. The insurance company has already rejected liability citing customer's signature on the proof of delivery in good condition and even the logistics provider has not committed to compensation - so the immediate loss notwithstanding has been borne by SPG.

Great gesture by yourself and he company. Have you thought about changing your preferred courier company. There are many in the market now and price difference is not much. If need recommendations let me know. I use them to ship photography equipments at times, so can suggest.

Also merchants should do nice packing while shipping if they a unable to get products available in some cities.

I do have my experience with Spartans. Was in the lookout for jacket and twice sent email from their website, but no response. Shall give it one last try though.

            thanks a lot sunny bhai
i have deleted the posts and the images as they were offending the Company and its reputation
and i have sent the helmets back to Spartan ProGear

and if there was no sunny bhai
the helmets would be with me in the same box lying at one side

and i do agree its the fault of the shipping team
and even my fault of signing it in a haste

            Lesson learnt from this incident
and i ought to be very careful from next time i receive any courier to my place

            thanks a lott sunny bhai

That is a trick used by many last mile delivery men to speed up the handing over process. As an insured package, the courier is mandated to deliver, and necessarily has to make at least three attempts to deliver the package. That means that if he refuses, he himself will have to come back again later. If he takes the package back, simply contact the sender company and report the incident so that the logistics dept. of that company can follow up with the courier. Remember that most of the sender companies maintain accounts with the logistics provider, where payment for the shipment is only due if delivery is made or that the three attempts have failed. The delivery guy may refuse to hand over, but will then have to explain to his boss why the package was not delivered. If you make a parallel report, he will probably end up sheepishly at your door the next day.

Smaller towns or remote locations are normally serviced by franchisees of the courier company, so they may be un-cooperative. At the worst, you may have to go down to the courier office to pick up the parcel yourself - an inconvenience but at least your money is safe.

I receive parcels and packages every day. I never even ask for permission to open. I simply take the parcel, open it before the delivery guy can can object and then after inspection will sign the POD. Your confidence in the knowledge of your rights and your corresponding body language is normally more than enough. Just be firm. Remember that even if the guy takes the package away without delivering, the package will remain the liability of the courier company, and not yours.

That is one hell of a goodwill gesture Sunny, Hunkofgals couldn't have asked for more I am sure.

Guys just sold off my Vega Offroad Motocross helmet Stealth (white color)....and bought myself a Gliders Monster Energy Offroad helmet MC1....
                    Just my personal views...
Vega has low quality..and it feels shaky at higher speeds due to that extended forehead design.....
Gliders is somewhat cheaper than Vega..but has better overall quality and fit and finish....the graphics are in lacquer finish (monster energy)
Do try Gliders if you want the VFM with quality.....

They are heavy weight + very very good in protecting face from the Vega Off-Road that you mentioned.
I have 2x Gliders MC1 though now I use LS2, they are just lying for alternative friend's use.

                      But the vega really sucks.

Even i used to "love" vega just for its looks. But almost 8 months with it and many long rides, i found out the truth the hard way.currently using sparx and now, vega feels as an excuse for a helmet. As sunnybhai has rightly said few posts earlier, vega has a build quality of plastic mug.
                          Motorcycling heals, big time...

Been reading this thread since yesterday and after several pages of reading, I've decided on going for a SOL (probably a yellow SL68s MAX) helmet to replace my crappy old Vega Boolean. I will be buying this within a month's time as I'm woefully short on cash currently due to the recent purchase of my new bike - a yellow Pulsar 200NS. Are there any authorised dealers for SOL helmets in Pune? Or is the dealer Andheri the only authorised one in Maharashtra? If nothing else works out, I'll order it online from the SPG website but I'd really like to physically try out one before shelling out 5k on the lid. Thanks in advance

Go back a few pages, you might see that Spartan is indeed adding new dealers/distributors for their gear. But you can call them directly and get your gears shipped.
