Re: Helmets
Most helmets go crazy just by opening the visor, and you need not do much to do create the uneven air flow over the helmet that cause the noise. Visor (internal) in or without visor is gonna induce noise no matter what but to the extent the noise created depends on a lot of factors.Originally posted by atuladeupes View PostDual visor make noise at high speed in LS2 Helmets, because extra airflow comes from dual visor mechanism switch at sides of helemet..... i am using LS2 FF396 CT2. it is with dual visor. It makes a turbulance noise after speed of 100 Kmph. If i try to close the dual visor switch with hand or tape the turbulance noise is less. Using earplugs while touring is best option i found.
But it's always wise to use ear plugs just in case. I myself have had ear sore due to my helmet wind noise and. Even when laying in bed, I can hear my ear tingling and the blast sound still reverbing, long back though.

I have a question, don't SOL 68S come with earcuffs? Even they are not enough at 70?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostSOL is not noise proof either. I've tried the SOL 68S and SII both whistle at the same speed 70 KPH and above, but with a little crouching the noises do get a little low.2013 R15(Sold) | 2014 Duke 390 (Sold) | 2022 Adv 390 | 2022 Ninja 300

Re: Helmets
No not the plugs, I mean a soft cushion like thing that goes over your ears inside helmet. I have them in my Wrangler helmet, and I guess most others do and the cuffs do provide some protection from noise, but haven't tested it above 100 though, but at 70~80, not much noise.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostYou mean earplugs? Re: Helmets
I don't think that this is provided in most helmets out there, but if you can post a pic that'd be helpful. You mean the little inflated sides at the back side of the helmet, then no it's not out there in our helmets.Originally posted by Ezilkannan View PostNo not the plugs, I mean a soft cushion like thing that goes over your ears inside helmet. are you sure these aren't present in most of the helmets? They aren't much, but something is better than nothing, because once I borrowed my friends helmet which didn't have these, and there was quite a rise on the noise levels than in mine. Maybe it was because of the helmet quality itself (because his was some Rs.300 or Rs.250 helmet).2013 R15(Sold) | 2014 Duke 390 (Sold) | 2022 Adv 390 | 2022 Ninja 300

I don't know whether you are quoting to that extra flap stitched on the strap or the cresent section which comes near your cheek, they both aren't designed to buff your ears.Originally posted by Ezilkannan View PostThis is what I'm talking about

And by buff which I mean (though not really noise protection as such), those two *cups* in the helmets in normal LS2 and most costly helmets, the concave section.
I personally don't think this is in no way for ear protection, it's just the strap piece is a little extended where as you can see, the stitch is low. You might have gotten yourself confused this or the cheekpads for ear buffing. Is this modular helmet you're talking about? That when you flip up the pads naturally protect your ears? If yes, then that's a given in almost most all modular helmets.
Cheers!

Re: Helmets
Yea so they aren't for protection just as I thought. Still I find it hard to believe that the SOL S68S II has noise even at 70. So earplugs are must for them? And no mine is not modular helmet, its Wrangler Gold, quite old though, bought it around 2009. Will be getting a new helmet, once I get my ride.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostI don't know whether you are quoting to that extra flap stitched on the strap or the cresent section which comes near your cheek, they both aren't designed to buff your ears. yes i rode at 80's and 120's
if i open the intake ports
i get a mild sound
if they are closed no sound heard
and the paddings near the ear are better noise insulating compared to my previous LS2 FF350
but the iridum visor of SOL are very very dark
even in morning they make u feel as if its dark
but lS2's iridium visor , which i sometimes used at night with the visor down , i could see the road ( not soo clearly)
and i know iridium visors are only emant for day riding so i ride with visor pulled up at night times
but with SOL's Iridium visor , its like pitch dark
so im thinking to switch to clear visor ( which i got along with the helmet) at night times
overall
im satisfied with the snug fit and its got nice ventilation and im not sweating much inside it
this is what i was looking for , for proper ventilation
really liked SOL helmets

Re: Helmets
I've clarified this before. The earplugs offered at the Chennai Experience Centre are NOT a freebie. Nor is it part of any sales promotion. It is part of a hearing safety awareness drive that is being conducted to encourage riders to use earplugs especially for long distance to protect their hearing. These reusable/washable silicone earplugs are specially packaged for SPG and come in their own carry case, offered ONLY in Chennai.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostYou mean earplugs? You are referring to the comfort padding on the strap which in your helmet is too long. It has nothing to do with ear protection.Originally posted by Ezilkannan View PostYea so they aren't for protection just as I thought. Noise is a subjective issue. What one person finds noisy, another will not. I had a rather pointless discussion with a rocket scientist some time back who wanted to use wind tunnel facilities and a hand held decibel meter, trying to explain this. Please look back a few pages - it may provide some information - and perhaps some entertainment too.
Regarding the noise level in the SOLs, read the next post by Hunkofgals, who reports low noise. Personally I don't find the SOLs any noisier or quieter than other comparable brands but until someone comes up with a scientific method of measuring all parameters, that's just my opinion.

Yeah, maybe I felt like that, hmm anyways, I guess I'll try on the SOLs and then decide whether or not I need the plugs.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostI've clarified this before. Re: Helmets
Excellent. That *should* help a lot of the folks out here. So I guess it should be available as a standalone accessory to. I guess perhaps you can list them on the website too.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostI've clarified this before. The earplugs offered at the Chennai Experience Centre are NOT a freebie.
