The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Helmets
Met with an accident today while riding my Yamaha Gladiator RS, A rikshaw wala suddenly pulled onto my lane when i was about to overtake (@60Kmph) him form right-side and i had no room to escape and the divider was not properly laid , and my bike had to hit the divider and bike fell on it and i fell on the other lane. To my luck there was only a slow moving passion bike( opposite side ) which could stop without ramming me and my helmet took most of the beating and visor came off . Today was the only day that i dint wore my riding jacket and gloves and i felt it was my pure bad luck, had minor bruises on my palm and elbow.
Major damages happened to my bike. Tank got big big dents and a hole got formed and petrol got leaked out of it and front forks got bent , engine cowl came off and handle bar got damaged and few more. Am not sure where Gladiator RS ( Racing Blue ) parts are still available with dealers or not
BTW am planning to get a new visor for my helmet ( its costing 2K) and use it , i feel as the damages are minor to the helmet i dont think i can wave good bye to it !! It still strong and ready to take few more beatings .Rides : Yamaha Gladiator RS ( 2009 - Present )

Very sorry to hear about your situation. Indeed it was a bad day. But the faith that you are assuming about the condition of your helmet after taking a hit may cost you more. Think again.Originally posted by Sandeep Patnala View Posti feel as the damages are minor to the helmet i dont think i can wave good bye to it !! It still strong and ready to take few more beatings .

Sorry to hear about the incident, glad your okay, however don't ignore the bruising, consult a doctor, lack of superficial damage doesn't mean that everything could be okayOriginally posted by Sandeep Patnala View PostI dont think i can wave good bye to it !! Also its with great sorrow that I have to say that the same above line applies to your helmet too. Unless inspected by a proper technician its hard to take a call as to the helmet being compromised or not. General rule is that you change your helmet after an impact.
I understand thats it's really hard and painful decision to bid adieu to your airoh but however for a tourer such as yourself, if you ever happen to be in such a situation ever again, this decision could make the difference between life and death.
Once again really sorry to hear about this incident...____________________

But as of now i cannot invest 8K on a new piece broOriginally posted by xpranav View PostVery sorry to hear about your situation. Indeed it was a bad day. But the faith that you are assuming about the condition of your helmet after taking a hit may cost you more. Think again.
, my A* gloves leather gave up and so am planning to get a new one in the mean while this accident happened , and for the bike i guess it ll cost around 15K . Checked the helmet thoroughly for any minor cracks or anything, found nothing and more over i had slide onto the left side but i dint hit ground hard , so guessing the helmet is in good condition and planning to get Visor alone for the helmet.

Re: Helmets
With the help of my little education in mechanical engg I can humbly tell you that price figures can be deceptional. Other than material cost the number of parts do make an impact on the price of manufacturing of a product. I must admit that I am not yet exposed enough to such high end riding accessories but one thing that I can assure you is that even with a high factor of safety equipments around the world have failed *at times* while serving the purpose and so can be the case with that locking ring of a high end modular helmet. And so I will better stay away from that any day.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostIf you've ever seen an Arai or Shoei helmets you'll see how sturdy cross sectionally they are, and just because a helmet is modular doesn't mean it's all ding-dong. An ARAI, Shoei etc, high-quality, modular/DS helmet costs as much or even more than their full face counterparts in some instances or if not close. The idea is usage, I have a local modular helmet for my local use and others for touring purposes. I *feel safe* for the speeds I do on city limits for which a good modular helmet will do, even though I ride full face 98% of the time.
I completely agree here.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Posthe's been driving in crazy atmospheric conditions, humid to raging hot temperatures for which it is a wise idea to opt for a modular rather than full full-face coupled with the photography he does and to interact easily with folks he meets, it's more of a convenience rather than outright need, of course with protection, absolutely no doubt about it.

Re: Helmets
Thanks for the suggestion broOriginally posted by Sid85 View PostYou can get good helmets like Sparx, HJC etc for the above price range. But they won't have internal visors. You can try Nuvo and Daijya. Both have got internal visors and fall in your price bracket as well.

Re: Helmets
I think you should repair your bike by next month or one even after it, afterall you have a CBR in your garage too. And in the immediate run you should better concentrate on buying a new full face helmet may be of a compromised budget to ensure your skull. There was a recent post from a member of a Studds one at 2k. Take a look.Originally posted by Sandeep Patnala View PostBut as of now i cannot invest 8K on a new piece bro

Re: Helmets
Take care! Ride safe! I'd suggest you to get a new helmet for yourself, if you have significant impact residue anywhere on the crown and dorsal areas of the helmet. Yes I understand you have budget problems, but that's just a suggestion.Originally posted by Sandeep Patnala View PostMet with an accident today while riding my Yamaha Gladiator RS, A rikshaw wala suddenly pulled onto my lane when i was about to overtake (@60Kmph) him form right-side and i had no room to escape and the divider was not properly laid , and my bike had to hit the divider and bike fell on it and i fell on the other lane. I still don't get the entire paragraph pranav, personally I think it's superfluous and it's contradicting.Originally posted by xpranav View PostWith the help of my little education in mechanical engg I can humbly tell you that price figures can be deceptional. And so I will better stay away from that any day.
Here's why, you've clearly mentioned price figures can be deceptional yet you've clearly said material costs do make an impact of the manufacturing of a product. Material costs are not the only cost that make up a helmet, there are lot of so called hidden costs that make a helmet, plus the very brand. You can't expect an Arai to be sold at 10k 15k never ever, unless something BIBLICAL happens. That's one.
Second, it's not just the locking ring of this helmet, and I understand you not having been with high-end helmets, but that maybe the appurtenance that might have cleared your suspicion. Plus famous brands themselves have the same mechanism for most of their ranges, so that doesn't mean anything is compromised. High-end of low end, things go kaput at times, but that doesn't mean it compromises safety as such.
Cheers!

Re: Helmets
Hey bro, no impacts on dorsal or on the crown areas. Only the chin area got slide-d on the tarmac. I have removed the padding's and checked for any internal cracks or anything which are observable but dint find any. Ll use this for few days and ll try to get a Sparx helmet if my brother is coming anytime soon from USA , but i guess this Airoh should do good once i replace the visor.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostTake care! Re: Helmets
hehe ....... allow me to elaborate sireOriginally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostI still don't get the entire paragraph pranav, personally I think it's superfluous and it's contradicting.

I am reiterating my previous post. Let us say there are two Arai helmets manufactured out of same raw material - one is a full face and the other one is a modular one - both have equal external dimensions. Now my POV was that
Case I: You cast/manufacture the shell of a helmet in a single piece for a full face helmet and it costs you "x" amount of money.
Case II: You cast the shell of a modular helmet in two parts i.e. crown & chin and it costs you "y" amount of money.
then in 99% of cases "x < y". That is more is the number of parts => more is the manufacturing cost. It may be the same cost difference with the internal padding too of these two helmets. Moreover, with more number of parts and specially rotary joint in the modular helmet, it will require more workmanship than a full face one.
And so I said that prices can be deceptive
My next opinion was about the rotary section + locking button of the chin protector which has a locking mechanism/ring to keep the chin protector firm at any position or closed.
As you know "factor of safety" is the degree of ignorance of a design engineer. To accommodate the unforeseen situations he assumes a factor of safety while designing an equipment. Ex: If Hero splendour is shown on the booklet to the customers to have a pay load of 180 kg, it was actually designed to carry a load of around 200-210 kgs. Another example is the case with the axle of the trucks. But if you assume a very high FOS it results in increased material cost and all that unnecessary weight and then loss of efficiency blah blah...
And so I was saying that even with an efficient/practical FOS, machines around the world have failed. And so can be the scenario with that rotary mechanism of a modular helmet in case of any unfortunate event. I don't doubt the proficiency of a high end modular helmet manufacturer but I know from somewhere it has come out of a human mind. And so I said I will anyday stay away from it even if it is from the family of any proud brand.
I hope now you will have that frequency that I was emitting since my last time
Warm Regards,
Pranav
