  • Helmet suggestions in Hyderabad

Hi guys. This is my 1st post here at xbhp.com. My budget is around 3k. I am on the look out for a helmet that has style and most importantly high on safety. At present I have checked out some LS2 and Vega helmets. At AdventureOnTheRocks in Madhapur the guy quoted 4.5k and 5.1k for the two designs of LS2 helmets(sorry dont remember the name or model no ) and at Biking Terminal in Somajiguda the least priced LS2 one was around 3.3k and Vega boolean with design was quoted at 2250 . In both the stores LS2 had an ECE certificate sticker(not embossed into the helmet ) and an ISI certified print at the side.
    My question is:
1)Why such a price difference in the two stores in what looked like the same model? Is it good to spend so much on an ISI certified helmet?
2)I am really confused between modular and full faced helmets. Both has its advantages but I have read that in an event of a crash modular helmets tend to give away because its essentially made of 2 separate pieces. Should I decide the type of helmet design solely based on this vulnerability? The only modular helmet that I have checked is he vega boolean. How good is its quality? And what about whistling at high speeds??(I drive mostly in cities and might go for an occasional ride on the highway. My speeds are 40-60kmph and maximum of 80-100 kmph when the roads are empty).
3)Am i missing some other good models in my price range? Also please suggest some other good helmet stores in Hyderabad that has a decent collection of helmets.
And btw I am using a studds basic model black helmet at present . Its just that it doesn't suit my new white RTR180

      First and foremostly......Welcome to xbhp
And secondly if you are intending to buy an LS2 in hyderabad my friend, then be ready to hear relatively higher prices. Due to some unknown reason hyd always had high prices on LS2s. My suggestion would be to get an LS2 from either delhi, mumbai or bangalore (either by friends or relatives). I got mine for 2600 & if i would have bargained hard i would have got it for even less. If you are OK with the price quoted then its fine. Most LS2's are ECE certified and yeah they are stickers not imprinted on to the helmet itself. Been using the LS2 piston head for a while now & am pretty satisfied with it hence i would recommend you the same (LS2).

If you are thinking of doing 80-100 speeds with an earplugs (or any other alternative) then its fine. The wind noise is pretty high in an LS2 which starts from some 60kmph. BTW had a look at cross?? Though i dint used one yet heard that they are good enough. & yeah try to take the newer model of LS2 which has integrated ventilators. The older ones with external ventilators might be sold for lower prices but they are very fragile & tend to break early.
NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

The quality of ls2's at both places is same... its just that adventure on the rocks over prices everything,... he sells skull cloths for 510 rupees where as you can get them for 100 in mumbai...
Get ls2 from bangalore or something, if you come to a g2g meet of hyderabad, you can try different sizes of helmets and choose the one that fits you... for 3k in bangalore, you can get a ls2 new model(with integrated air inlets) and also air pump inside the helmet which will help you get a snug fit... and as madhav krishna suggested try checking out cross helmets also, most probably you will be getting a chrome type visor with your helmet, a transparent one costs about 400-450 rupees.

Thanks for the fast reply . My guess is the LS2 that were quoted at a higher price must have been the newer versions(not sure ). Wind noise is the issue isn't it! I face the same issue with my present helmet. Its very irritating. I have heard cross is also a good helmet but have to search for it in Hyderabad

And Hyderabadis any idea or had any experiences with OnTheRocks in Madhapur? My first impression was the guy was knowledgeable and may be we have to pay a premium if we purchase from that store.

Thank you my friend. Exactly my thought about OTR. And when will this g2g meet of Hyderabad be held?

                    • On Daijya

Apropos of nothing, here's a recent email conversation I had. Posting here in case someone else is looking for the same information.

That Daijya is associated with Marushin is the impression I got looking at old conversations in the forums. I know DSG doesn't say there's any connection.

                      Good day.

I reside in Bangalore (India) and have been considering the purchase of a Daijya brand helmet which, I believe, is a Marushin product. There is considerable controversy on some internet forums whether it really meets Marushin standards (and consequently ECE 22.05). I thought it best to seek a clarification from you before going ahead with my purchase. If Daijya is indeed a Marushin product, it would help if there was a mention on your website to dispel any concerns that others might have.

I too use glasses and use a Vega Boolean. Its quite comfrotable. The best thing is you get an inner coloured visor which acts like sunglasses in daylight.

There are three negatives I found in Vega Boolean:
                              1. Gets fogged as you said( keep the visor a little open)
                              2. Noisy @ high speeds(learnt living with it)
                              3. Heavy ( can't help it)
