I'm yet to zero in on a pair of knee-guards. Hence don't know the cost.
    I don't mind spending upto $60.
Brain says - "Pick the Alpinestar bionic", but wallet says "NO".
Earlier i also had a low budget, and wanted something that i can wear below the trousers, saved money for couple of months and got the Icon stryker and satisfied with it.. No tank scratches.. .

Costed me $105. though.. but worth it.. with the improved tech. involved .. (reviewed by revzilla.).

You can use knee guard like (under the trousers) :

Icon Field Armor Stryker Knee Guard - RevZilla

Ride Icon - STRYKER KNEE ARMOR

Under trousers, only if you wear baggy pants. Note: Not all knee guard are same size. More comfortable outside. Mine slide down when walking, not all the way down but enough to make walking uncomfortable. My bionic knee guard scratch tank as the joints are fasten by metal rivets. Solved the problem by sticking rubber over them. Need bag to store them when not wearing as its not comfortable to walk around.

Friends call me GI Joe or Robo Cop. Maybe you'll get some names as well .

Is it even possible to walk with that on? It does not look like you could.

                  • shivank, good to see that you are using your riding gear despite the headache of lugging it around college. I always wear my Nero if I am taking my bike out & carry it folded on my arm / wear it while walking. You will get used to it. God knows the number of times Ive gone shopping and walked around with my Nero in one hand and KBC (with gloves stuffed in them) in the other. And yes, the truth is it far from convenient. God forbid I have a minor spill while not wearing the jacket (since it is a pain to take everywhere), I would feel really stupid thinking the jacket I left at home would've saved my hide had I been smart enough to wear it while riding. I just dont understand why people do what Sunny has pointed out below.

I switched over from riding pants to knee guards because there're too many stuffs to carry over. I hang my riding jacket behind the chair I sit. Riding boots is something I haven't bought as I cannot wear it to office everyday as our company has a policy to wear business formal wear. One option is to lock my formal wear in the drawer, this means, I've to wear 2 pair of shoes everyday!!! Gloves are put inside the helmet & put over the table. Anyway, I've a medium sized table, so not much of issues.

Add another reason - they don't want to be looked like an alien in the office; trust me, I learnt to live with that!!!

@ aargee Yeahh...its feels kind of alienated when you enter office. Everyone stares at you. I guess its coz the riding jackets make you look huge. But i still haven't started using the knee guards to office though i have them.

@neil Bro, its the same thing with me. The felling that you have something that can protect you, but you do away with it just for the heck of convenience. Although its quite difficult to carry it when you are gng to a party or any event. It becomes a task to take care of you riding gears.

Exactly same with you on all the points you mentioned above.

I have been wearing the riding jacket and gloves for the past 5 years or so even though in my Pulsar. Everyday to office. Yes, I was looked by others like an alien but now it has become my identity in office. Guess what, in an annual function game, People were questioned 'who is the one who comes to office wearing a riding jacket' and there were so many people shouting my name Sweet!!

A biker with riding gear is looked upon as a kid going for a fancy dress competition on wheels.

Guess, I have to do the same thing. Walk around wearing it. For one simple reason, I have tried almost 4-5 backpacks but it just won't go in any one of those. Plus you have very aptly said, If someday I crash without my riding/gear, first thing is I would feel like an IDIOT to leave them back home. Second is, my parents would scold me for not using the gear ( Ask me the reasons, I gave before buying one). Third is, everybody around will laugh, saying I am a poser who bought riding gears for fun. Don't want all this!

No locker in colleges! Not even a designated chair.

Riding boots is not practical to wear daily. And most of all, way out of my budget. I am planning to get a pair of knee-guards asap. That is one thing that makes me feel stupid every time I ride with my jacket. Knees are first to get bruises in any kind of spill. Took me too much time to find out.

Once I am as brash and careless as you guys are to wear riding gear to malls/shopping, I am sure I won't think twice about gearing-up for any place.

Thanks for all your valuable suggestions guys!
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

Walking with the knee guards is not always comfortable..

It takes time getting used to.. and walking in these is not difficult.

am trying to figure out the difference between DSG Carbon Gloves & DSG Primal Gloves.. going by the features mentioned primal seems to be better..I mean it has carbon fiber protection... am I correct on my judgement that primal is the better of the two ?
