I have seen in many websites it is being said that when your shoe hits something at high speed then the steel toe part will rip off the toes also if some vehicle runs over the toe same thing will happen.. many recommends for thick leather shoes instead of steel shoe..
Regarding the track part... I was trying to say if steel toe is not allowed in track then there should be some serious safety concern...

Then i will look for thick leather shoes for riding. any suggestions?

That's because in case of a crash the steel cup that protects the toes gets ripped off and it can act as a guillotine doing more harm than good.

+1 for Tornado Pro and plus you are getting a nice discount.

I bought it for 7k. My best investment in riding gear yet.

Went to OTG Bandra, Tried the 3XL but it was too snug (the zippers weren't even connecting) so he got a 4XL and as he opened the covers- it was laden with fungus as it had been in their godown for too long and even a few push buttons on the sleeve were out of place. He wiped it off nicely and asked me to try- fit perfectly! But then, when I asked him to give me another piece he said that it was the only Tornado Pro 4XL in entire Mumbai-the last piece! Although the discount made the deal very attractive I wasn't going to acccepnt that old jacket which had accumulated layers of fungus and a few buttons appeared as if they would drop off even before I reached home.

Tried calling their back office and they said even if i ordered online- the same piece would be delivered to me. I'd rather spend a few hundered bucks more and get a fresh one directly from the company website.

In short, the discount didn't work for me!

The choice is on you, you can get Woodland too, My army boots have been under small car tyres few time, nothing happened, except some tyre marks

Can't find it on google. There is an canteen stores dept thing tho, don't know if it sells shoes or is actually a canteen lol.

However, I am a college student, and can't really wear all riding gear to college, especially the pants/knee pads and such.
Helmet and gloves are an easily feasible option; gloves can be easily put into my bag. I have a few questions regarding the riding jacket:
a. How bulky are riding jackets? Do they fit and look like any normal jacket or have a marked increase in bulk? If so, to what extent? And are there any thinner riding jackets available which solve the purpose? Can they be folded and put into a bag?
If not too big or bulky, I can accommodate and manage to add a riding jacket too, which can be folded and put into my bag too.
b. Will a normal jacket help? Say for example Puma's Ferrari jacket? (I'm doubtful too, but would just like someones opinion on this).

You have echoed a lot of my concerns. I am going to buy my first riding gear soon, and I agree that keeping all that gear with you when riding to college is tricky. When the time comes, I guess I will either take a separate bag for the gear, or install panniers. Granted I would hate them on my bike, but they seem to be the best way to go. :/

I would also suggest you look at TBG gloves and jacket, as I have been reading good things about them so far. Also, the people making it seem to be passionate about riding, which is a huge plus in my books

Well, I would say get any helmet but Vega Boolean. I know many people use it because it looks cool. But the latch holding the lower portion of the helmet is flimsy.
For one, nothing beats full face helmets. Modular helmets attempt to give you the best of both worlds but don't succeed all the time.
We have had scary times in the past with many members including a certain moderator whose Vega Boolean snapped into 2 pieces from the chin area after a fall at 50 kmph.
If you really want a helmet in the 2k range, look at Studds Shifter series.
But we should better discuss helmets in it's own thread and not here.

I use a Vega Boolean. I got it back when I had no bike (I was riding pillion a lot) or technical knowledge of riding gear. It set me back by 2k, and I got it because it was black, and it was the least flashy thing I could find in the store. The flip-up thing was appealing to me because I wear glasses.

After reading this though, I am concerned :/ I have to jimmy the latch to get it open, but now I am beginning to doubt it is any good in case of a crash. I had no idea that it was "anything but Vega Boolean" bad. Hopefully, I don't kiss the dirt before I can afford a proper full-face helmet. I guess the annoyance of taking my glasses off every time, is something I have to get used to

Army Canteen is sort of a departmental store where products are available at discounted price for defense personnel and are located inside their base camp. Check if there is any defense base nearby (Airforce, Coast Guard, Navy, Army) and try to get products from their Canteen.

Will try to get from there or will buy some good leather boots. Thank you. Time to save up for proper riding boots, is 8k a good budget for boots?

I don't think the orazo ones are any good as they lack enough ankle protection plus i rejected the idea of steel toe boots for riding after reading about it on xbhp and many other pages.

I gues for day to day city riding its no harm. My friends are using them for years , few of them core tourers. And none have faced any issues. yes for track that should differ
