and how do CE rated EN 1621-1 moulded PU armor of spartan ICARUS differes from knox armor ?? What kind of fitting do you suggest for a jacket, tight or loose fit ??

    Thanks
In terms of protection, leather is the best followed by textiles and their combinations of materials like Cordura and Mesh. However, in terms of wearability and comfort in the Indian climate, leather is near impossible to wear, while complete textile jackets are also difficult in most parts of our hot country, making Mesh combinations the most suitable for most parts of the country for most seasons. Maintenance wise, leather is the most difficult to maintain, while textiles like Cordura and Mesh are easily washable. Perforated leather is an option in hot climates but weighs much more than textiles do. All in all, for our regular street and highway riding, textiles are more apt for the Indian subcontinent.

The CE rated moulded PU armour in the ICARUS and KNOX is explained in a previous post of mine. Here is a link - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...tml#post910561

When it comes to riding gear, the rule of thumb is to wear as close fitting as possible so that armours are properly fitted in place. Of course, leave enough room to breathe and ventilate comfortably!

LS2 jackets, I've seen a few photos of it from FB, personally felt like it's crap! But can you ask your friend to post a review or post some snaps of it inside out, high def would be definitely appreciated.

Thanks a lot sir. 5k is exactly the kind of budget I'm looking at. What about the axo knee guards?

I will talk to him about the jacket and ask him to review it for us if he's okay with it, or post on his behalf myself.

AXO knee guards that are avlbl in eBay and FOX too are all cheap and last a a certain amount of time. Don't forget, they aren't 100% genuine stuffs that are sold in eBay or elsewhere. Why don't you try Cramster knee guards.

          • Hi Folks.. Finally found the link I was looking for!

I am outside India for a year now.. I have a 2011 Apache 180 RTR... I basically work in Pune but I left my bike in Bangalore with my brother before leaving.. Now I will be back in Bangalore between March 9th and 11th and I will be riding my bike to Pune on 12th March.... Before starting this long ride.. I am planning to buy some protection gear! Currently I am planning on below 3 products in Cunningham road store, Bangalore..

Riding Jackets, BREEZER 4.0 - 3 in 1 Mesh Riding Jacket - True All Weather
Riding Pants, VELOCITY 2.0 All Weather Riding Pants
Riding Gloves, TRG2 - Racing Gloves - Full Gauntlet

I will also do a good amount of riding in Winter/Rains in Pune..

What to you guys think... Is it a good buy or do I need to go for any other options? I would prefer brands that I can buy from a store in Bangalore please!

            Cheers,

Sir, but, as you know most balaclavas are based out of spandex and most of them have cotton blend, which is good for wicking moisture. COOLMAX on the other hand does both and keeps one cool by evaporating the sweat.

There are balaclavas with so called "COOMAX" in them, it comes in different colors though, black blue, grey etc. But I guess M1 balaclava which I've been using is real good and wicks moisture real good. Just plain, cotton/neoprene based one.

But I'd strongly suggest to refrain from buying these so called "latex" balaclavas which I call them, where they are just rubbery and spandex and no cotton content whatsoever, though they are priced at Rs 300 to their M1 counterparts, which nowhere comes to the quality of M1s.

But yes there are good COOLMAX based balaclavas, but unfortunately not in India, at least as far as my knowledge serves.

This is the first one I came across

Would you prefer Spartan jackets over DSG or Cramster, if yes, could you explain why? Also, the knee guard seems great, and it being bionic would come handy. FOX guards are utter crap I think. Just hadn't seen AXO. Thank you for putting light.

Another thing is, how can I try them before buying them.? I am situated in Delhi. (Same goes for the SOL helmets. )

At least as to my knowledge, there haven't been any reviews of both of the jackets being brought by someone or reviewed. Mind you, most of the first timers have gotten various jackets and have performed really well, which costed more or less the 6k range.

I would "RECOMMEND" you go for the ACHILLES for your Leh trip.

I would definitely recommend Spartan over DSG and Cramster. Cramster's jackets are good, but when it comes to their armor they are pretty much downslope by quite a margin. Spartan is by far the cheap and best at least, for now. You can definitely spend your dime on the Spartan.

Aargee- have been struggling with this myself for awhile now. The best I have found so far readily available in Chennai are the M1 branded versions sold by Dollars and Pounds, on Sardar Patel Road. They are not CoolMax, but have a lesser cotton mix in the blend that allows faster drying. Many of the Chennai XBhp riders use them too and you can check out their comments on the quality too. Not the best, but not bad either is what I would say. Most of the so-called HJC CoolMax balaclavas sold on EBay are fake. The original costs about Rs.1000/- while the fakes range from Rs.300/- onwards. You can also check with Performance Racing Store, which used to stock them.
