I was looking for some gear as the roads in Hyderabad are known as "killer roads", somehow I got this.. And thanks a lot bro.. You just saved my life... I'm very allergic to bad customer service. He now starts threatening me for posting the glove pic in his Zeus page ... I guess he has lost his mind.....
Oh speaking of gear,
Anyone got any experience with SPG Achilles or Chronos..? I really liked them.. Looking like a regular jacket and still giving good armour..
My requirements are:
Safety,
Ventilation,
Waterproof during rains.
This is my first time in the world of gears.. So feedback appreciated..
Thanks..

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Does anyone own a Dainese TEXTILE Jacket in Mumbai / Navi Mumbai???
In the "52 Euro" size actually.
I need to buy a textile jacket online an need to know if a 52 Euro is the right size for me.
Even if you've got a friend or you know someone who owns one... please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Few queries :-
1) Anybody here used the Dirtsack Ranger thigh bag or the Spartan Hermis thigh bag? How useful or convenient is it to use while on the bike? Any feedback on the quality and utility.
2) SPG Hercules boots users - How hot or uncomfortable does it get, considering this has a rainproof liner and no perforations for air flow? You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

Hi Ajay,
Your second and 3rd requirements are usually tradeoffs. A good ventilated jacket would never be waterproof. It can be water resistant but never waterproof.
Since you are in Hyderabad which is pretty hot and humid(am I right?), I suggest, go for a very well ventilated jacket. In India, unless you have the dough for different gears for different seasons, it doesn't make sense looking for a waterproof jacket. may be you can buy one for those monsoon rides, but even during monsoons, it's pretty humid and you'd start sweating for those short periods when it doesn't rain. I have experienced this myself.
There are basically 3 types of jackets, based on material used.
1) Leather : Suited for racetrack, provides maximum abrasion resistance, very heavy, will squeeze the last drop of sweat out of you in our conditions, very expensive. Impossible to wear in 90% of time in 90% of India.
2) Textile(cordura) : Good abrasion resistance(depends on the denier count of the fabric, higher the better abrasion resistance),is fairly water resistant, not very heavy, moderately ventilated. Ventilation is allowed by unzipping the vents which let air in. These are well suited in the Norther Indian winter and autumn but even with the vents, they are almost unusable in peak summers. Forget peak summers, you'd find them difficult in spring.
3) Mesh : The most ventilated jacket. best suited for Indian conditions. They are the least abrasion resistant obviously but still provide decent protection from abrasion(thanks to better mesh). These are usually not full mesh. The arms and shoulders would often have cordura since they take the brunt of a fall. The chest and back would be mesh to allow maximum airflow.
These are naturally not waterproof, but you get rain liners and sometimes thermal liners as well for the winters. The waterproof liners are never waterproof and will only save you from drizzles and moderate rains.
I highly recommend these over the other two.
Coming to brands :
Leather : Not many options. Check the DSG gear site for alpinestar leather jackets
Textile : many options available. DSG nero, DSG Phoenix, Spartan Achilles, Cramster K2K, Cramster Eclipse, there are many more options. If you choose to shop from foreign E retailers, you'd get numerous options in UK and US.
Mesh : Spartan Helios, Spartan Icarus, Spartan Hyperion(has leather shoulder panels though), Cramster Breezer (4.0 and 4S), Rjays Swift, Rjays Octane, DSG genesis.
Look for reviews on this thread or elsewhere on the web
Hope this helpsThe hero always RIDES into the sunset!

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Hello all. Sorry to bother you guys again (also sorry if this has been asked before). I got a free helmet when I purchased my bike. However, neither does it feel very sturdy nor does it look good. I feel like If I drop it from 2 feet it might just crack.
I'm looking for a helmet with good protection along with good vents (for fresh air) and graphics/colors. My budget is around 1.5-2K Rs. Can you please suggest something. A brand like Steelbird or Studds will be great (not compulsory). Thanks a lot. [emoji4]

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
hey,
Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation.. I really appreciate it.. Gave me a LOT of clearance on this topic.
Hyderabad is a Hot city. Not even humid these days. Kinda becoming like a desert. (Sorry if I'm exaggerating)
By the looks of it, It's going to be Cramster Breezer 4S or SPG Helios or if nothing works, SPG Icarus (My xBhp friend got one & also has good reviews)..

Studds has introduced refreshed version of the Ninja and the 2G 3G and Downtown helmets. The Ninja is a very versatile helmet considering the VFM proposition it offers. The Steelbird Adonis too is a good helmet, with a really good outer shell strength. But the eagle beak design on the front may not impress everyone.
Considering it's genuine, I don't think you would get it a significant level of bargain, but considering the expenses for the trip alone, and the spend I think it's a breakevenOriginally posted by raman sriharsha View PostWill I get alpinestar riding jacket and Airoh helmets at a cheaper rate if bought from Indonesia?

But that being said, yes your bargaining skills included, you can get it cheap, considering it's genuinity.

The girl said, 'NO!'

1) Spartan Hermis is very small bag. Go for NH4 Shoulder bag, very spacious, multiple pockets and very practical compared to the Spartan one.Originally posted by motormania View PostFew queries :-

Any reviews for the Chaos? Looking for a casual riding boots, don't want the touring ones. What does rainproof mean? Water doesn't seep in?Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! Also what's the sizing guide? Say my regular footwear size is 8. Which size should I pick?

My requirements were exactly the same. Though I won't say I was looking for 'casual' riding boots, may be a boot with all the good protection, fairly water resistant but not very tall. Something which can be easily worn , would not look too out of place with denims and even office trousers, something which won't give me blisters or make me uncomfortable for short walks. In short basically I only trade off the shin protection and get a proper urban riding boot.
I ordered these and my friend would get these from UK when he comes back in Nov
Product Reviews - Richa Slick Boots - Black
This comes with Hipora membrane which is breathable while being water resistant. Though certainly not Gore Tex , Hipora is decent water resistant breathable layer.
I have seen many guys wearing Richa stuff on mcn/other UK mag youtube videos, so knew I was not getting some unknown/unreliable boot. RST, Richa, Weise etc, though not as well established globally perhaps as A* or Icon or Joe Rocket but are quite popular in Europe.
Funny thing is, the spartan Chaos above looks exactly the same as the Richa I ordered, save the branding. May be the source is same but I am still confused how the design can be almost identical. There was another spartan boot, which @balckthorn pointed out in previous pages, which looked almost identical to an A*(not sure if it was an A* or some other brand). In fact I have seen many other brands offering almost same designs. Do they all delegate the designing to the same factory ?
Aren't there any design copyrights etc which apply on gears? Or the factory holds the rights or something? Or it is all very unregulated, given the size of the market being miniscule?
btw what price is the Chaos ? The Richa cost me 6k(60 Pounds GBP). I don't want to know I lost a lot on that
