                  Hello fellow xbhp-ians,

Need some suggestions for a pair of budget (read cheap) riding gloves under 2K. Have thought of the following options:
                  1. Cramster Twister
                  2. DSG Phoenix gloves
                  3. Rynox Rampage
                  4. SPG Phaeton gloves

I drive a Suzuki Gixxer, hence wouldn't be going on very long trip on it. Not looking for very costly gears.

                  Thank you.

Hey guys, I need your help and I need it quick.
Let me give you the background first, just so you understand my case. I keep going to different clients on official work, so wherever and whenever feasible, being a riding-freak, I always grab the opportunity to get my CBR 150R out and take her along instead of travelling by our dear Mumbai locals and buses, and now, the time has come for me to take her along to my current client. Using the bus service now, would be a big inconvenience, and with encouragement from my dad, I've decided to use my baby CBR in spite of the annoying rainy weather.
Now, the issue : I was earlier looking for a simple water-resistant overpant that other commuters wear in the rains, and planned on wearing my knee pads with 'em. But today, I had a little spill on the road near home while aboard my dad's Kawasaki 4S. The rear tyre has a terrible grip on wet roads and I got a first-hand experience of it. Luckily I just got off with a bruise on my knee, two light cuts on my left elbow, and a small hole in a fairly new and tough pair of jeans of mine. But it has now occurred to me, that in case I ever encounter a spill like this on the highway, with my light formals (with or without those flimsy water-resistant overpants on), the damage could be so much worse. So I've finally decided on investing in a decent pair of riding pants, for both the knee protection and especially the abrasion resistance!
                    P.S. I already have a riding jacket!
Now, my requirements : I need waterproof pants, it won't matter much if they're uncomfortable in the summers as I avoid riding in the hot summers anyway. Most of my riding will be in the winters and monsoons, so strictly, waterproof. And I intend to use them as overpants over my light formals.
                    The budget : 6k max.
Please do suggest me options, as I intend get them as soon as possible.
Currently I'm only aware of the Cramster Velocity 2.0
It would also be highly appreciated if y'all could tell me how your experience has been with the suggested products, if you have owned/used them! Thanks!

I'm using the Cramster Velocity 1.0 pants since 2009.
No complaints with the product, it's very comfortable, well padded and has CE approved internal protectors on the knees. Padding on the hips. Mesh liner inside.
I noticed a couple of stitches on the crotch area gave way last week. It can happen with any pant for that matter. The mesh inner has held up well in spite of all the sweat and rigor it has gone through!
The pant itself can't be faulted. I have used it for at least 50 rides in the last 5-6yrs.
The new version has some additional features too, didn't bother to check.
Cramster and DSG were the only brands back in 2009 when I purchased.
                      All my gear is Cramster.
You should check other brands as well.

                      • Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread

I am again pretty much confused as to Riding boots. I have read in many places that using a steel toe shoe is bad in case of a fall in motorcycles. But considering that I'm riding a RE Classic 500 I'm hoping this advice won't be applicable to me as the chances of a high speed high side etc is lower. So chances of toe bending and getting damaged by steel toe plate is lower, compared to a sportier bike (at least I hope so).

                        Now my confusion is that as part of work I need to visit sometimes large Industrial areas where safety shoes is mandatory. Since my existing safety shoe is pretty old now, I'm planning to get one, so I was thinking instead of getting a safety shoe and riding boots, why not get safety boots which I can use in both cases. I was earlier thinking of RE short riding boots, but even they come with steel toe, so I think I can pass them off as saftey boots at site. In safety boots, I was earlier thinking of JCB Rider, but even though it is ankle length, due to its laceless design, the protection at ankle area is non existent (some stretchable material). So considering my requirements, I have short listed the safety/riding boots available online in India as follows;

RE short riding boots- Apprx. rs.5500, Lace less design and waterproof, toe protection, full leather
Orazo Picus - Approx. Rs 4200, Lace design, waterproof, steel toe. Though it is classified here as riding boots, I think it is more saftey boots than riding boots.
JCB trekker - Approx. Rs. 2500, Lace design, steel toe, full leather (I think).
Armstrong Protecto- Rs. 3100 , Lace design, steel toe, but I think the ankle area is not leather so less protection.

I dont know if other steel toe safety boots are there that can be used for riding also, so if any others have requirements similar to mine, or are using steel toe boots for riding, please chip in as regards to all day comfort etc.

While I have not seen the above mentioned boots other than probably Orazo, I can safely say the following: (Check my previous post about riding boots too)

                          1. Steel toe is just a small steel plate inserted into the center of the sole.
I've seen it when my Cramster boots' sole was restuck in fhe heat press.

                          2. Riding boots offer much more than just steel toe insert.
They have shin and ankle protection, and a toe slider in most cases.
They also come with a toe shifter pad, waterproof breathable membrane and what not.

Reason for saying this is, I feel you are probably better off spending your money on a proper riding boot, with all features.
Else, a simple army boot will serve the purpose very well. Until you can buy one

Thanks for the reply man. But when I say Steel toe I mean a proper toe box as provided in safety shoes. So even if a truck runs over your foot you wont feel it. I had tried to press the RE short riding boots toe area inside but it felt very rigid. That is why I thought they would also have a proper toe box. Orazo Picus also comes with a proper toe box in steel I think.

Anyway regarding Army boots, does anyone here know where in Mumbai can I get a proper DMS boots? Is there a store like ME Makatee of Pune in Mumbai?
