• Re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread

bought cramster twister gloves from outdoor travel gear store at bandra for Rs.1700/-.

first impression:
Seems strong due to leather make.
only the outer part of the thumb is mesh (what? why?) don't know what they were thinking.
riding on the highway is comfortable because there's airflow to keep the palm cool even in really hot weather. I'm yet to use it in traffic.
as these are the first pair of riding gloves that i've ever worn i had a tough time finding switches and using the throttle at first, got acquainted soon enough.
When i took them off i saw blackish particles on my palm, maybe because i am wearing them for the first time.
Looks ok, but bang for the buck.

Anyway, if it's too big I can always get a tailor to alter it.

For the gloves, I think I'll go to a retail shop, because I've got big hands, and I've never had a pair of gloves that fit well so far.
I dont think any tailor will or can alter it. Anyways goodluck with the size.

Rather get it exchanged for your size if its back in stock you will get it for the same price. You can contact them directly, its their own shop on snapdeal I guess

Have you heard about this brand?
Scimitar is the latest brand to join Spartan and their cheapest jacket is priced at 3799,

If you would like something in Spartan itself, better to go for Spartan ProGear. . . Atlas, though they have hiked the price of it now. . .

Do not go for Vega Jackets, found the armors to be not that strong, just the quality of the jacket is good. . . You can wait and save up the extra 1500rs and go for the above two. . .

Coming to gloves, if you are again on a budget, try out Biking Brotherhood Gears (Facebook), they do custom made jackets and trustworthy too, . . Their cheapest gloves starts at 1000rs, else you can get Solace Passion Gloves for 1450rs, PASSION else Rynox. . . The knee guards mentioned above look good, but can't guarantee you the safety. . . Again if you are willing to wait and save up, you can get zeus jeans MOTORCYCLE RIDING JEANS, which will set you back by 4500rs. . .

My Choice if you are on a budget:
1. Spartan Atlas/Scimitar Jacket. . .
2. Passion Gloves. . .
3. The knee guard shown above. . .

Cheers!!!

Thanks for the advice. I agree that it would have been wiser to go with a more renowned name, but as a new biker, I don't think it's practical to spend so much on gear that I'll only use a few times.

Vega's a pretty large brand when it comes to helmets, and the jacket seems to have decent specs. It's not Cordura, but it has CE rated armour, and 600D polyester. I plan to go to the NE with it in December, and it'll be pretty cold then, so I'll probably be wearing a full sleeved shirt under it, and maybe even a sweater, so that'll help with abrasion resistance.

All protective gear is about absorbing impact to protect bones and organs (which the CE rated armour should do) and preventing skin damage (which this jacket probably won't do alone, but should protect me if I have multiple layers of clothing under it).

Getting a budget protective jacket probably isn't something that one should do, but for me the alternative was going with non -CE rated elbow and knee guards.

Have you heard about this brand?

I would highly recommend you to push your budget a little and go for brands that have been tried and tested and have built a certain reputation in the market for being classified as a renowned brand. Buy the jacket so that it protects you "when you fall" and not "if you fall" after all it is meant to protect you during bad times.

I tried to search about this "labeled product" (Sorry won't even call it a brand)-Scimatar ..There is no website. Name one brand which does not have a website. Website which talks about its existence, its extensive usage in the market, clarification on the material used, lab reports for CE approvals, warranty claims, etc. After reading this I hope they don't go and create a website now to fool us further.

How reliable do you think it is..their "So called" CE approved armors do you think will protect you in case of a fall. (Don't fall for the fake stamping business). With no wear-abouts of it existence, quality, after-sales support, R&D and technology how can we term it as a brand?

Making a logo and pasting it on a product does not make it a brand..It needs to have certain background to it.

I would rather term this Scimatar or whatever it is as just a chinese/indonesian/etc/etc product being dumped in India through an Indian Company.

I hope this helps all of us who plan to buy new riding apparels.

P.S: I have seen the product at Moto101 Pune and it is pathetic.

chats Dont fall for fake branding. There is a reason why well settled and tested jackets costs more than these. Saving money on gears will only effect you. Few more bucks fir YOUR BODY is worth. Think about it.

• Money more important than safety?

Whats the use of asking for advice when people would only look for few options and dont even want to look into other options and avove all, can gamble with their safety just to save some money

Hey Chats,
Congrats on the new jacket. Not judging but the entire set of conversations post your query on gears seemed pointless - You already had vega in mind, and you ended up buying vega in the end. Presumably you might have done some ground work which is why you zeroed on vega, and talked about CE rated armor et al.; but makes me wonder, why ask advise at all. There's a plethora of info floating in these numerous posts across the forum.

Anyways, all the best for NE. That's a tough one, and tough ones are always fun.

Hey
Could you please give a short review on this jacket after you use it for some time. Would like to know about its ventilation performance in traffic under the blazing sun and overall build quality.

I was looking out for a jacket for office ride and the usual leisure rides in Goa's hot and humid weather. Here in Goa Spartan products are not sold through their official dealer.
We have Solace,DSG and rynox dealers here. I would like any of the owners of the following products to please rate them on ventilation under hot and humid conditions, how good is the rain liner under heavy rain( do i have to buy a separate rain coat ?) and how good is the build quality. The rest feature like armor protection, number of pokets etc are good through out this range.
1. Rynox air gt
2. Rynox asphalt(little above budget)
3. Solace defender
4. Solace Sprint
5. DSG range is out of budget and have heard of poor build quality so will skip this brand.

My budget is max 6k for the jacket. i have gone through many post but haven't come across any reviews on the solace products. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

When I first saw the jacket it was priced at about Rs.4000, but got discounted a day later, as was brought to my notice by another member a few posts earlier.
I would have considered adding 1500-2000 bucks more when I was already spending Rs.4000. But when I'm getting the same protective gear for closer to Rs.2000, then adding Rs. 4000 to my spend didn't make sense to me.

By posting here I was able to buy what I think is a decent protective jacket at a good price, allowing me to use the cash I saved for knee guards, which I would have otherwise done without. And while waiting for an answer I came across a few other options, that other members shared here as well. I'd have still been contemplating them if the price on the Vega jacket hadn't halved.

I also found out about Biking Brotherhood, whom I've contacted on Facebook about gloves, but they haven't gotten back to me as yet.
