    • [Spartan Icarus] 1+ Year Review [little bit of Helios & Odysseus pants & DSG Primal here..]

      Hello,

I've been using the "Spartan Icarus" jacket for slightly over a year & I must say, it's built to last.

amazing jacket, I use the jacket for daily commute - office & home. does an amazing job at it.

the places on the mesh where there are buttons have torn, but haven't given up completely. that's due to me DAILY removing and putting back the buttons a couple of times!!

when I went to buy a new Aspida Helios, they told me that it's not required to daily use it like that, I guess I destroyed it myself, but it's still going good..

I love that jacket and the helios also looks well built. Used it in my 800 Kms ride, used a warm jacket inside to keep me warm and took off the warm jacket and the helios jacket did more than enough to keep me cool.. it's pretty airy and comfortable. Loved it. the microfiber pocket (for sunglasses) are a BIG PLUS for folks like me who wear regular spectacles and then the sunglasses and to swap between them.. it's actually nice to have that.. I'm not sure about the "headphone" hole there, but it's there..

it zips up nicely to "Odysseus".

the Odysseus pants are also great.. they are very comfortable and in case of sudden brakes, I am NOT moving about on the bike, I was able to fart comfortably without any obstruction!!

armour is well placed, I use a thin cotton bermuda and then put on the Odysseus on top of it. the pants did a great job in keeping me warm and airy when I opened the vents up.

the trick here is to sit on the bike and then tighten up the welcro straps about the armor. if you tighten up the straps & then sit on the bike, it won't be comfortable.

I tucked them inside the figo boots and it was comfortable for the 800 KMs.

the "hip" pads are more like "thigh" pads, not sure how they protect the hips, but I guess in case of a fall, the lower hips/upper thighs are protected coz that's where I assume we might slide.. never the less, protection is protection..

the DSG primal gloves are good, wish they had hooks to hang to the jacket, but they are pretty good.. the knuckles for my right hand piece is tricky, sometimes it's comfortable and sometimes the armor hurts me.. like pricking/biting me.. but when I put them on correctly, the hurting isn't there..

for "Perfect Leather Freakos" : the gloves are leather and the leather are used from different skins and not from one single animal skin.. this is because the gloves (any gloves AFAIK) are constructed in various parts and bits with armor attached and stitched together. but they are pretty good and broke in pretty fast..

I have finally decided to buy the gloves with my requirements of waterproof + best protection gloves in the following way:

        1) Buy cramster tundra- Winter+ Rain+ Protection

        2) Spartan ASPIDA - Ares Gauntlet when the winter season ends up here in North india around March.

I will keep both pair of gloves and would gradually make the cramster one's as secondary for Rain and winter usage only.

Please let me know if that's a right option. By the time i purchase Spartan, i would be in budget as well. Do suggest if there's some other high quality glove available which can offer me what i want. Would order once i hear from fellow member as don't want to miss the advise here from awesome people.

I am unable to comprehend the difference between Asphalt and Air-GT to choose one between the two.

          hi narayana

rynox is a good reputed brand no doubts but you should check options also so that you can choose a better one. i think BB gear is also
doing customization & solace is also into it, you check the below links it might help you. you contact all of these & check pricing/designs/style/your comfort
          then you take the decision.

          • Riding boots - options and personal reviews?

            Hi all,

I have been on the fence regarding buying riding boots since a long time. Looks like every time I start doing the research, the available options change .

As of now, among the known/reputed options, I see the following:
            1. Alpinestar SMX 1 - Rs. 10500
            2. Alpinestar SMX 3 - Rs. 15000
            3. Alpinestar SMX 6 - Rs. 16500
            4. TCX X- Action Waterproof Boots - Rs. 11475 (high note performance)
            5. TCX S- Sportour Evo Boots - Rs. 14000 (high note performance)
            6. TCX X-Ride Waterproof Boot - Rs. 13000 (high note performance

            A few questions:

            1. Are there other good options? I know there is the Tarmac brand from Bachoo Motors - saw the Tarmac Blade but did not like the fit/finish.
            2. Any personal reviews on any of the above?
            3. How good is the TCX brand/quality as compared to Alpinestar?
            4. Some of them are shorted boots (SMX1 < SMX3 < TCX X- Action = TCX X Ride ), while others are longer ones - any recommendation? My main usage will be in city riding, and occasional touring usage - no track days are expected, though the SMX 6 and probably the TCX S-Sportour Evo can definitely be used there as well...
            5. Waterproof or not? I understand waterproofing will make them especially hot in Delhi summers.

I do not see much walking around in these, in general, but one advantage of shorted boots (that can go under the jeans) is that they will not look too awkward if I do have to walk in them for a bit... So, confused either ways

Any help will be much appreciated!

Look up the Tarmac Venom retailing at 9,999/-.
You could also check out the boots from The Breed Gear. I have just ordered myself a pair!

I am looking for a jacket and have narrowed down to rynox tornado pro and rynox asphalt jacket, I am confused because the both are similar on paper. Any major differences between the two except lack of thermal liner in the asphalt?

Hey guys, i had ordered TBG street gloves Sized- XL from banglore yesterday. Although they fit perfectly they are giving me a lot of pain in middle joint of ring finger while engaging clutch. I have used blasters before they were quite good too but never gave me pain.. So i am stuck with these. If anyone wants to buy them off me i will be very pleased

I am from Pune, gloves condition basically unused. Used them for trial 15-20mins. Recent dated invoice for reference. Pm me if interested. If anyone has same experience with this glove please let me know if there is any solution for it. Thanks

There are a lot of things that are different in both of them. I suggest you to visit their branded store in your location and have a look at it personally.

I tried on asphalt and it felt great, i don't know why but i didn't try on the tornado pro and left the store. Will go again to try on both. Btw is there any way to add a thermal liner if need be in future on the asphalt?

Take tornado pro, the rainliner in asphalt doesn't work, i don't think you can add the thermal liner

Hi JRay.. Try out the riding jacket before buying one... I planned for the rynox and when tried none of the jacket came fit for me..

Later went ahead with DSG jacket.. Which was very comfortable and i m happy with it.. Buy a jacket which has Rain Liner.. We dont have snowfall or too cold climate except for northern areas..

I heard the new one has reissa liner which is same as the tornado pro, will double check though.

Yeah i tried on the asphalt, size L fit perfectly, all armours in place and was comfortable, yeah the only seasons we have are very hot-wet-hot but having an option for thermal liner would be good if i want to ride to a cold region.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did see the Tarmac Venom - my thinking is that if I am planning to spend 10k of money, then I may as well spend some more and get something from a more known brand. Also, I personally did not like the overall fit/finish of Venom.

TBG's shoes look good - a quick search did not show any place where I can see/try it in Delhi and with shoes, I cannot risk buying it online without first trying them out...
