      Adding my 2 cents...

When buying a rain gear, don't opt for 2 piece rain suits; Opt for one suit only. Reason being that, no matter, how much ever is covered, water seeps through the zipper & the first part to get wet, needless to say is crotch. Followed by thighs & gradually lower stomach.

Otherwise, buy two pairs (not experiemented though I've); one is with the pant & shirt type & the other coat type & wear one above the other, if you want to stay dry completely.

Bluevolt once said, he uses a one piece rain suit made up of Goretex material. Due to exorbidant cost, I landed up buying one piece from Tourmaster. Its good, no doubt, but still I get a little wet, due to sweat, not due to rain.

That right and also wrong. Depends. I have used normal rain wear not meant for riding as well as riding jacket in rain. Though the normal rain wear are 100% water proof.
        1. While riding water seeps in through the zipper as you rightly said. As normal rain wear are not design to resist rain hitting you directly at very high speed, Its proof against vertical downpour and not rain hitting you horizontally. Though my Octane jacket has a clever overlapping design addressing this issue. Hard to explain in words, but it works. water does not seep in through the zipper.
        2. At high speed, Water will hit the crotch and move up the waist and eventually soak your .. whatever, as there is nothing to stop the water. I have found a way to minimize and even stop this as well. I flip over the waistband of my rain pant and carry my bag on the front. This helps.

Can any Octane owners comment about the water-resistant properties of the Octane?
Ditto. Rode with the Octane through continuous rain for more than 3 hrs. Dint let the water in. Its an excellent buy i feel.

BTW guys the Fox Knee-Elbow protectors aren't the original ones. Even Zulfi is aware of that. But due to budget constraints we went for those . But I guess many xBhpians are using it. Any bad feedback about it guys??
Fox elbow and knee protectors are sold here in pune too by pro biker and the quality is way far below. i had plans to buy same but than saw shift knee shin guards from riders discount and ordered them and i feel they are way better than the fox knee guards.

I would suggest you guys to get together lets say 4 or 5 guys and order in bulk so you can share the shipping costs of 25$. the knee guards cost is around 12-15$

Yep. I am aware of their quality. Are they still charging 25$? I read somewhere on this thread that they have stopped sending items as gift.
                Can someone please clarify?

I went to AH helmets 2 days back. tried the JK-17. its nice but doesn't have a thermal lining.
u can check for DSG Falcon. it costs 3790 & comes with thermal lining also..
if u r intested, we can request Hemant bhai to order it for us

mmm..how to explain. Well here goes. My rain pant has elastic waist line. So I just fold over the waist line, like one folds the pants at the bottom when its too long. The fold helps in preventing water from going over your waist. Simple but effective .

How would it be suited to a hot climate like Chennai? How good is the ventilation?

Any other suggestions? Should be reasonably waterproof (Removable lining preferred) as well.

                      • to keep myself dry, i wear two rain coats - one above other- jacket over jacket and trouser over trouser, a bit clumsy, but very effective, keep me 100 % dry.

whatever water seeps in from outer raincoat is stopped by inner one.

                        • Gear In Bangalore

In sync with prep for my SS1K (on 13th Aug)

I have bought part of gear yesterday, and will buy the rest today.
I have been riding with the gear since yesterday.
More updates on that in detail, later.

                          Update on Gear:

Yesterday I visited Orion Motors and Helmet Paradise for gear purchase.
                          Gear picked:

                          1. Riding Jacket DSG Nero - 5500 INR
                          2. Balaclava (Alpinestars) - 300 INR
                          3. Gloves DSG Revive - 2200 INR (I came back and checked, the cost on DSG site is 1990 INR - the shop should get a revisit from me today! )
                          4. Replaced (clear) visor (Helmet- Vega Boolean) - 160 INR

                          Accessory bought:

                          1. Tank Pad (Carbon fibre-Keiti) - 900 INR

                          Still to buy:

                          1. Knee guards:
I did not see some decent knee guards at both the stores.
FOX ones seemed to be dupes, and Alpinestars were above expected range!
                          Please suggest on this one.

                          2. Shoes/boots:
I 'cannot' spend on riding boots now - at over 8000 INR, I would need some collection time!
I think I will continue with my current shoes (simple sport shoes - but are comfortable enough)

                          3. Saddlebags:
Was looking for Colt/Stallion or similar quality bags.
Rjays were available, again over budget - @ 4100 INR

                          4. Accessories and spares:

                          WD40+OKS Chain Lube
                          Acc/Clutch cables
                          Spark plug
                          Puncture kit
                          Foot pump (with gauge preferably)

^ Can I get all these at one store? (somewhere nearer to Marathahalli)?

                          Thanks,

                          Ace.

Octane is one of the best air-vented jackets available. The rain liner is removable. Once removed it is completely mesh with fantastic air-circulation. Have been using it for a while(almost everyday) and very happy with it.
