No no its not the filter that i removed..its a small bend that is fitted above the air cleaner to allow air only from one angle..once i removed that the air cleaner is more visible now when i remove the seat cover..

@ksml,
dude, put the k&n as soon as possible or put the stock filter back. The dirt will enter the engine and screw it up much faster than you can spell k&n. Are you sure that it was your friend?? Never use your bike without a filter. The engine will cost more than the cost of the k&n.
But in my opinion, go for the k&n only if you are looking for serios mods like over boring the block and ready to spend 10000+ bucks for this..

Now i would like to knw if there is any harm caused to the engine or the air filter without using that air cleaner cap.? Because i dont want to cause any harm to my engine..i love my unicorn very much.!

Now for the "duvidha" (quandary):
I have a Bajaj Pulsar 220F DTSi bought on 11th Sept. 2010. 1st service has been done. I had a Bajaj Pulsar 180 UG3 earlier which was modded to the hilt.
I am thinking of fitting a K&N air filter (R1100) to my 220.
Now, before you guys start thinking of telling me that my warranty will be void, I know that is the case. I'm prepared to let that go.
The actual "duvidha" is that have heard & also read somewhere that the 220 has a big enough carb, so I don't need to upjet the bike for use with my K&N. I wanted to know whether I'll still need to upjet if I do go for the K&N (which in most probability I will) & the other mods I might need to do.
Also would it be better to fit the K&N onto the carb or in place of the OEM filter? (is there a difference?)
What I'm looking at is better performance (read pick-up).
Really don't mind if the top-end is affected a bit as riding in Pune, don't get too many chances to touch 145kmph anyways!!!
So please experts (non-experts with some experience with a K&N plonked to their 220 as well for that matter) pour in your valuable suggestion & comments.

hi i'm a newbie . i own a thunderbird 2008 model . can i put k&n filter for my bike?????Originally posted by surajram View PostI was under the impression that the ECU monitors the volume of Air flowing into the engine, and would adjust the Air-Fuel ratio accordingly.
Since there isnt much power to be gained from a K&N, my friend decided to stay with the stock filter.
if i can pls suggest me the sereis no: of the k&n filter

True... the complete air box,the filter, the length of the inlet manifold, everything is tuned for a specific engine's optimum performance.Any mod in this must be done with adequate knowledge..Please read this :Originally posted by born2slow View PostI believe K&n can only harm your performance through out the rpm range except may be at high rpm where u might gain some. The stock air box and length in most modern bikes are tuned to the engine which is lost when you fix the k&n directly to the carb. Even though the stock air box looks restrictive, it helps in boosting your air intake.
Debunking the K&N Myth - Why OEM is Better : Nissan Articles .
While most of XBHPians may not agree with this, the Nissan club had done extensive testing before publishing it . K&N does not have FACTUAL information, on controlled testing conditions..like Nissan club had done.

I did not mean it to be rudeOriginally posted by ajyrdy View PostIm not looking for a free ride.. Im just looking for alternatives to a k&n filter.. Something performance oriented.. .
i meant that, when a k&N is used, there is bound to be a drop in milage.
the reason is not just the "rich mixture" but because once a k&N is fitted, ppl try to rip the bike hard cos thats what the k&n is fitted for. now the k&n at this time consumes a lot of fuel and hence the drop in milage. otherwise, if tuned properly, k&N does not do much harm. but it defiantely demand more attention and maintainance from the user.
but remember to get the perfect setting, it often takes 5-6 months of proper testing and patience. and here the problem starts cos most people want instant results which is not possible.
