HP filters is not at all a good filter. It's just a cheap product which will do nothing to your engine or its performance. Go for either K&N or UNI. Cosworth is also a good filter.

I'm planning to buy UNI air filter for my honda dio, but confused between UNI, cosworth, K&N and green filters. Someone please guide me. And also does anyone know where I'll be able to upjet my carburetor in pune? I'm also planning to buy iridium spark plug with splitfire sparkplug cable and racing CDI.

Only when I was in a dilemma to change my stock filter to after-market filter. I happened to go through this thread.

Conclusion: Stick with the stock filter. I do not want to screw up with my engine for some sound and to get a tad better pick-up (which again remains arguable from what I read from some past posts).

Also will using a after-market filter reduce your bike's mileage ? With whatever basic knowledge I have about filters, I believe it does. But some of you guys over here are too familiar with filters by experience, so it be valuable to know about it from your guys

Very true. No matter how old a post was, a reply to it at any point in time adds to the content of the thread. Which in turn helps people like me, if not the one who originally posted it year ago

    Precisely commented.
Coming on to k&n id like to add that Yes its an advantage compared to the stock ones and they sell like hot cakes(I had it for 15k kms) in a generally competitive market regardless of their con's on engine which even I faced with prolonged usage of universal cotton filters.(regular cleaning on trips and premature engine damage)

Id agree and say that the stock bikes are designed, made and manufactured by companies with prolonged research and tests. Changing AFR by adding a k&n resolute to a significant damage over time.
    Chose wisely.
I learned it the hard way, hope others learn it through research and data over the forum.
    Regards and ride safe.

I would suggest everyone to stick with the stock one.
You will only get roaring sound and little power increase but it will kill the engine.

The filter will not protect engine as good as the stock one.
Water will enter in the carb while washing.
Micro dust particle will enter into the engine while riding offroad.

Seriously I hated it after few days.
The only thing good was the roaring sound.
Most only realize this at a later stage. I don't at all recommend an after market filter that isn't designed specifically for the vehicle in question. The reason FFE and aftermarket AFs are used in racing is to gain that extra edge. Mind you these engines are all temporarily raced, stripped if need be, but most of the times racing engines are stripped down post race, so it's a wise idea to use it on such machines, as opposed to a vehicle that goes through everyday abuse, which in the long run can be detrimental.

    Cheers!

For our puny engines, stock filters works the best. It's hard to characterize what sort of quality or performance such filters mentioned by you would offer. But again these are all foam or gauze wire types we're talking about here. So I'd suggest UNI as a good choice, but will I suggest you to replace this on your motorcycle? My suggestion would be no.

    Cheers!

Yes as Aneesh, pointed out, replacing them is the right way to go, since the crack can widen overtime and it can get you stranded when you least expect it. It's hardly 45 to 50 bucks, get them replaced.

    Cheers!
