Boxer does seem built for milkman and village use. Heavy load carrying capacity, made for speeds under 60, self-start (anyone would loose balance when carrying 2 pillions loaded with luggage and tries kicking bike), spoke wheels and lack of disc brake all indicate in that direction. Too bad its selling very well in Africa but is barely making a mark in India.

@antz.bin: Interesting. Is it true that previous-gen pulsars (and also supposedly platina) have a much lesser quality than current generation discovers, P220 and P135LS ?

@antz.bin
looks like u are a big discover fan and a bajaj fan too
true that boxer is a non nonsense bike for the rural market and does its job well(may be better than splendor?) and if used in the city is light on the pocket too
how ever we wud hardly settle for a bike like boxer eventhough we needed for normal city use(yes that includes me too)
it wudnt attract the city market but i do wonder why it isnt popular in the rural marketPulsar 200NS parts list

Its not about being a Bajaj fan. Please stop trying to undermine facts by calling the poster 'biased' or fan. I have clearly listed drawbacks also. But what I posted was a fact. I can give you phone no.s of those 2 people and you can confirm the FE bits on your own.Originally posted by mayank.travadi View Post@antz.bin

As far as city usage is concerned, ignoring the digital gadgetry (which is nothing but eye candy), please TR the Discover 150 (without looking at the badge) and then talk to me if it is not extremely good.
Coming to Boxer, if you look at what is available in similar pricing in the competition showrooms (don't forget that it is priced below 50k OTR even in Bangalore. It costs almost exactly the same as something like a Splendor+.) And then consider accordingly what is being offered.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

So run-in or riding style/ etc has little to do with efficiency. Just asking because you were so curious about weight and other *almost* identical conditions.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostWhole of last year, I had 2 roomies, 1 had a Discover 150, and the other one had a Honda Unicorn.
All 3 bikes (D150, Unicorn and P220) used to take the exact same routes everyday inside the city and would run around 30km each daily. Used under *almost* identical conditions, even the difference in our weights was not more than +/- 5kg. It was so close that we could easily wear each other's shirts.
Ok Discover outclassing uni & p220 is believable. But p220 delivering better gas mileage to Uni is something sensational! The Discover would consistently return 55+ in Pune traffic, sometimes 60. Unicorn and P220 would stay between 40-45kmpl inside the city. I used to have competitions with my Unicorn owner roomie about whose bike would return more FE. I would lose 60% of the time
, but the point is, I would win the rest of the 40% occasions.

no no i am not trying to undermine facts
its nice to know someone is supporting the facts when i see a lot of people even without riding a bike are die hard haters of the bike(pulsars mostly)
i have ridden the d150 of a friend of mine and was impressed(thts the only bike i have ridden so... )
any particular reason why u chose discover instead of unicron for running city errands?Pulsar 200NS parts list

Run-in does have an effect on your FE, agreed. But that is when you really screw up your run-in. Or else, for bikes under 20k km on the odo, it doesn't matter very much. Anyways, even I wasn't a saint when running inOriginally posted by mid View PostSo run-in or riding style/ etc has little to do with efficiency. . Of course riding styles do differ, but even I couldn't manage anything above 45 on that particular Uni in those conditions. Even I was mighty surprised with the results considering what we read on the forum is drastically different from what we actually experienced over 1 year.
A P220 is not as fuel inefficient as people assume it to be. I have been riding carefully these days (not exceeding 80 much) and for the last ~2k km, my bike has been returning 45+ kmpl. You can check my FE history on the P220 ownership thread. But still, 3 out of 5 times, I would invariably end up with lower FE figures thanks to highway rides.Originally posted by mid View PostOk Discover outclassing uni & p220 is believable. Well, the place we stayed happened to be in old Pune. Congested streets and maniac traffic was the order of the day. P220 is waay too cumbersome in such conditions. Being left with Discover and Unicorn, I chose the lighter bike of the 2. Discover being a good 25kg lighter than Unicorn was much easier to push, pull, lift, sway and park. To top it, it would return better FE. Being students, selection was quite easyOriginally posted by mayank.travadi View Postany particular reason why u chose discover instead of unicron for running city errands?

P.S.: @Somen I found another reason why disc brakes are better than drum brakes even at low speeds. You can see that reason too, on the rear bumper of my car, in the form of scratches caused by a Splendor at 1810 hrs on July 14th 2012. The guy crashed into my stationary car because he couldn't stop for the traffic light in time.
P.P.S.: If god gave me power to change 1 thing in the world, I would change all drum brake setups in the world to discs. And I am seriously serious about it.Advice is a form of nostalgia.

I checked in the morning, the bumper is broken, so its not just scratches. He was lucky he didn't break the tail light. Or else the repair bill would have surpassed the resale value of his 'high on resale' bike. All because he couldn't stop in time.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostTouche

Just because his bike had ill serviced drum brakes, apparently its not his fault. And I am a bhikhari if I tell him to pay for damages because that would be cruel to that fellow. About time we took responsibility of our actions and moved to living a safer life.Advice is a form of nostalgia.

True! I think the way insurance works in our country should be changed so that if someone damages your vehicle, you should be able to claim damages on their insurance. I'm not sure if that is possible at the moment. Ideally it should be that way.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostI checked in the morning, the bumper is broken, so its not just scratches. It is possible to do that, but After a lengthy court battle which would cost more than the damage itself.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostTrue! Considering it seriously. Since I need something more of a commute for lots of mile munching, I decided to play it safe and go for an established product.Originally posted by vrugonnab View Post@MHG, congrats on your job! best of luck with your new purchase.. since the budget is going to be increased, why not a P200NS
Later next year I can buy (the possibly niggle-free) Pulsar 200SS for myself, retire the Samurai and give the GS150R to my dad.
