Nobody would look at GS150 but 200NS would take everyones eyes.. and are you sure you would sell GS in a year when SS is out I dont think so anyone will sell so early. Think wisely mate. Anyways congrats for your Amazing Amazon job and a new bike whatever it is

I'll never sell the GS150R. Either my dad'll use it or I'll use it for small errands. But its going to be in the family as a long-term purchase (10 years min).

        • Change of Plans (maybe)

Seems Kalyani Bajaj where I TR'ed the D100 and D150 is offering D125ST for TR. And also P200NS. Going tomorrow morning. Am taking dad with me this time to see his impressions. Lets see how it goes. If D125ST is comfy enough it might still get preference, and if P200NS blows my dad's mind away (it already blew mine lol) sufficiently, it may also end up being bought instead of the weaklings I am considering so far

          • Bajaj Discover 125 ST Tested

Today was (probably) the last visit of mine to Kalyani Bajaj. This time I went with my dad to test ride the Discover 125 ST and the Pulsar 200NS. Dad felt the Pulsar 200NS was "a sportsbike" and not suited for me. Well I was not eyeing it for immediate purchase anyway so I didn't mind one bit. I was more interested on the one bike that everyone seemed to be overlooking - the new Discover in town.

Most I guess were disheartened by its pane-jane looks. The full-blue color was not on display (this one is a real looker) while the blue-black and red-black treatments were definitely not ones that can stand out.

I on the other hand immediately fell in love with it. Engine had corrugated fins for improved cooling, mud guard was functional, mono shock with piggyback gas canister ensured cornering skills while maintaining comfort levels high, and full-DC lighting was something I tended to appreciate a lot. Petal discs were awesome too but the disc cover made absolutely no sense whatsover.

            Performance

The engine is much different from other discovers. Too smooth, and yet very peppy. I found no noticeable drop in performance versus D150 and this I attributed to the short gearing that spreads the torque pretty well at speeds under 100. Acceleration was quick and smooth. Braking was quick and crisp. Only thing I disliked were the rear tyres that were smaller than that in Discover 150, evidently to increase mileage. Another thing I disliked was the absence of a tachometer in a bike that is so dependent on right revvs to deliver power.

            Comfort

This bike blew my mind away. While comfort was nowhere close to GS150R that had a sculptured for my body feel about it, it was significantly more comfortable than the other discovers. The seat was much bigger and my posterior end had no difficulty finding comfort. Suspension was SPLENDID. Better than anything else from Bajaj stables I had ridden. I think this could make an excellent general purpose bike for anyone. Has mileage when ridden carefully. You can rip it for instant acceleration. And its comfortable enough for big guys to not become uncomfortable. This bike is a jack-of-all and nobody would have room to complain about something being amiss.

            Price and Waiting

In Bangalore it has 64.5k OTR + Rs. 900 registration and smart card. Waiting period of 25 days. I would say its a worthy buy for anyone.

            All this was awesome, but....

Seems like I wouldn't be buying a bike anytime before next year. Had a long talk with dad and then a few friends about it, and decided that its better (and I will have higher peace of mind) to buy it when I actually start working in January. Reasons being better sense of ownership (I'll pay with my own cash directly), less hassles (no need to transfer bike to another state if I get posted elsewhere as I can buy it at my place of work), lower cost of ownership (ANY state has lower taxes than Karnataka) and better choices when I buy a new ride (Pulsar 200SS is smiling at me right now).

Tomorrow I'll mostly replace the still OEM tyres on my Samurai with some fresh rubber that has more grip. And get the bike serviced to make it shine. I may have to change the drums every 3-4 months to keep braking crisp but I think its manageable. You know what they say. I waited 6 years to get a good job and waiting 6 extra months to get a nice ride is not too hard.

Mods either close this thread or if you feel its good enough to discuss 100cc to 125cc bike test rides, keep it open

            • @MHG, your review is good. You should have moved to Discover ST 1st impression thread. That would have helped prospective buyers (and with good pics). I agree with you the blue color is alot better than the black one.

Very good TR reviews and explanations, I was under same fix to buy a new bike and was trying to enquire especially on suspension leads to comfort level as the road I travel got lot of path holes and speed breakers. It made my life easy to choose from. I own a Suzuki Slingshot+ since last 1-1/2 years and would like to sell it due to very stiff suspension in my kind of road conditions. I tried to adjust a lot but it is still very stiff(It is a very bad suspension for bad roads) expect this everything is ok with this bike,so I was looking for a bike with good suspension , with good mileage , and with some less budget.

Finally you have concluded that you will buy a bike later on, ok but with the TR of all those bike which one you suggest is the best to go with. I feel everything is good with Disc125ST but price seems to be bit high !! which is out of my budget as I will sell my present bike for a loss of 20000/- and I need to invest 20000 more for a new bike, so I am keeping my budget to be tight as far as possible.

                  .
I used to find front shocks very stiff, but that was cleared by SVC,Rear shocks is very good especially on broken roads here in Kerala, may be you want to check with svc as your bike is still under warranty/or may be get a matching nitrox Shocks??? one thing i do notice is that when set to the lowest rear shocks bottoms out in bad roads.IMHO if you`re getting any bike with a price tag lower than slingshot, you might regret it.

Discover 125ST was most VFM bike I TR'ed and Suzuki GS150R most comfortable.

For you I suggest don't ditch the slingshot, get elder brother GS150R's shocks installed instead

I already sold my slingshot, now tell me from the following

my daily commuting will be below 10km but in bit bad roads and speed breakers.

I did TD of shine, dream yuga and bajaj discover 100 4g

From the above I felt like going for shine but again thinking that with the kind of very less usage why I should spend 60000, why I should not look at bajaj 100 which is decent. I am only worried for its long time durability because this time I will keep this bike at least for 5 years. so based on this quickly suggest the best one. bajaj discover 100 4g onroad is 51000

Tell me quickly your decision as I have to buy one tomorrow

                        • First of all, thanks to MHG and fellow xBhpians for such an informative thread and keeping it alive!

Being a college-goer, was in dilemma about mileage conscious commuter, and hence confused between:
                          1) Honda Twister,
                          2) Bajaj Discover 100cc,
                          3) Bajaj Discover 125cc, :P
                          4) Suzuki Hayate,
                          4) Hero Passion Pro,
                          5) Honda Dream Yuga!

But after reading many threads throughly, finalised Discover 100cc, which comes as 4G nowadays.
I TD it and liked its soft suspension; really helpful for out Indian pot-holed roads!
Being competitively prised, and providing features like DC lighting, longest wheelbase, pass light, better looks, and suitable for my height (6ft).
And the mileage, as a matter of fact, depends upon rider, riding style, roads, and his love for his bike, right?
If you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be.

Honda DY is a typical quality product by Honda. But there comes confusion with Honda Twister, and Suzuki Hayate in 110cc league. Considering bit platicky nature of Twister, and A. $. $. of Suzuki in India, DY is a safe and reliable play.
