  • Finally I owned my first bike on 12th Sep. 2012, a Discover 125 DTS-i (Black+red)!
I was crazy about D100, but felt it a bit underpowerd having 94cc engine, and absence of disk brakes made me think again.
Purchased it for 55k. Prices of D100cc and D125ST are 48k and 62k respectively. Clocked 380kms on odo in 6 days with a solo trip of 168kms done today! :P
    Here's what I think:

    Pros:
    1) The 125cc engine with 11PS power and 10.8Nm torque is quite enough to bring smile on face!
    2) Suspension! Remarkable difference between normal and nitrox ones.
    3) 200mm disc coupled with 130mm rear drum brakes may not sound great, but are indeed lifesaver in emergencies.
    4) Looks decent and proportionate from every angle.
    5) DC electricals.
    6) Tripmeter and Pass light are indeed helpful, but that blue ride control switch must be replaced with engine kill switch.
    7) Mileage, though not calculated yet, seems to be around 70kmpl. (Note: Filled petrol of Rs.500 at first+500ml provided by svc. No refills done yet.)
    8) Eurogrip tyres may not be the best, but still no issue of skidding or locking on dry as well as wet surface. Lose gravel scares me though.
    9) Stability is amazing! I am able to ride with no-hand, and the bike keeps on going!

    Cons:
    1) Seat seems to be uncomfortable for long rides.
    2) Gearshifts are noisy.
    3) Disc-cover looks odd. Don't know wheather it has any effect on disc cooling.
    4) Worried about traditional tubed tyres.
    5) Engine feels stressed after 50-60km/hr. (Maintaining run-in conditions)
    6) Adjusted angle of headlamp cowl for proper illumination with dipper.

Well, I respect other products like SS125, Twister, Shine, etc. etc. But Discover was the one who stole my heart.
If you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be.

    • Where are you from LegioN ? Because in Bangalore, there is significant difference in Discover 100 vs other Discovers (125, 150 and 125ST) pricing. 100 is around 50k while 125 is 59k, so its market is pretty secured down here (cross shopping of 125 with 100 rarely happens, while people decide a lot between 125, 150 and 125ST due to all being within 3k gap of each other).
Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

        Congratulations.

        Pros:
        1) The 125cc engine with 11PS power and 10.8Nm torque is quite enough to bring smile on face!
How does it compare to other 125 or 110 CC bikes that you TR? Is this the quickest amongst the lot?

        2) Suspension! Remarkable difference between normal and nitrox ones.
So the monshock on 125ST should be even better?
        6) Tripmeter and Pass light are indeed helpful, but that blue ride control switch must be replaced with engine kill switch.
        What's this blue ride?
        9) Stability is amazing! I am able to ride with no-hand, and the bike keeps on going!
        Be careful with that friend.

        Cons:
        2) Gearshifts are noisy.
Is this because it's new or is this going to remain in future as well?
        4) Worried about traditional tubed tyres.
Does ST come with tubed tyres too?
        5) Engine feels stressed after 50-60km/hr. (Maintaining run-in conditions)
        :O 125CC and strained at 60? That's odd
        6) Adjusted angle of headlamp cowl for proper illumination with dipper.
Pl share how this is a con, I'm unable to understand.

        • Bump for the thread! Any 125ST owner would like to help answer my questions?

Asking on this thread should help.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Gagan bhaiya, please go through this thread. Most of your queries have been already addressed here. The other options you haven't considered yet are the Bajaj Discover 100 and the TVS commuter motorcycles.

Well in that case, got the Dream Yuga. Thats the most modern one of the commuter lot. Good FE and fun to ride.

Most HH commuters have exact same engine, very slight changes. I guess Splendor PRO and Splendor NXG have 0.5 bhp more. No other differences.

The new Passion X Pro is the new one which has same engine and characteristics as Dream Yuga. You could also opt for that one if you want to stick to Hero.

Splendor+ has little lesser power and older state of tune tune engine that revvs higher - it delivers 7.5PS @ 8000RPM and 7.95NM @ 5000RPM. Remaining bikes - HF Dawn, HF Deluxe, Splendor Pro, Splendor NXG and Passion Pro all have newer state of tune engine that revvs lower but delivers higher power and torque - delivering 7.8PS @ 7500RPM and 8.04NM @ 4500RPM. All bikes except Splendor+ and HF Dawn have self start, while these two only have kick start hence bad idea to go for them.

There have been lots of complaints about the current tune of the CD100 engine in these bikes giving bad mileage (a friend's Passion Pro gives just 55kmpl).I wouldn't recommend Suzuki Hayate either, thanks to reports of erratic fuel efficiency which is a big turn-off in this segment. So I think Dream Yuga would obviously be a good investment in the long run thanks to better power and efficiency of its CB110 engine. Passion XPro is a white-elephant really - same engine, new stickers and higher price so makes no sense over going for a REAL Honda bike.

                        • New Yamaha ss125, mileage 55 kmpl, good top end with a top speed of 105 kmph. Best suited for your purpose.

                          • Don't know why should we look at top speed for 100-125cc bikes !!! Because AFAIK and experienced 100-125cc engine are like close to death post 90kmph, This commuter segment is for mileage area. where it varies from 55-70kmpl+.
Is there any use ridding a 100-125cc at 100kmph+ and get an average of 50-55-60kmpl(this is what it will give at that speed INMO). Isn't it better to buy a good 150cc which will do a decent 100kmph+ with an average of 45+kmpl!!
INMO sole purpose of buying a 100-125cc bikes are better average over 150cc i.e 60-70kmpl+

                              • passion xpro.. A different engine from the previous series.. Though similar to honda, only advantage being wide service network.. Ignitor also is a good choice.. Else you have choices in yamaha also.. Splendour series are good but then the tech is quite outdated.. But it will not be of any harm if you buy that too.. But choose one with a self start.. I would suggest passion xpro, ignitor, dream yuga and any commuter from the yamaha stable...
