Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
hey i just read about the maximum payload of a bike. apaches and pulsars offer about 130kgs of payload, whereas i require a minimum of 180kgs. so what ll happen if i cross the alloed maximum capacity? and if its a serious issue, please suggest some other bike under 1lk.

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
abhi bhai I run on a Stunner and it too vibrates after 60 and is thus not a comfortable bike for touring or long rides. One of my pal who has RTR 180 (also an xBhpian) once told me that the vibration felt at the rear footpegs are terrible. Therefore I suggested soOriginally posted by abhi7013 View PostThat's not a reason to rule out any bike!! You're nt doing it justice.
TS- I would say apache. Its got better looks in the lot you mentioned and go for the abs version. It suits young people Like us.

so i shouldnt worry about this thing? as without a pillion, i have no worries, but with one, i ll easily cross 170 180kgs. so i was worried about it.Originally posted by xpranav View PostThere is a term called FACTOR OF SAFETY used while designing any mechanical machine. Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
not at all, lets make a little calculation for a family of four riding on the bikeOriginally posted by anarchy911 View Postso i shouldnt worry about this thing? as without a pillion, i have no worries, but with one, i ll easily cross 170 180kgs. so i was worried about it.
Male = 80-100 kgs
Female = 40-60 kgs
Kids (2 in nos) = 45-60 kgs
Now when they can manage easily on a HH Splendour then it is anyday possible on a 150 cc bike
But I have one more request/advice to offer to you. Please make smart investment. When you are buying a product (that too after discussing experts, which I am not) make sure you buy it with a lil bit of practicality.
There is not much of a jaw dropping difference between a 125 cc and a 150 cc bike these days. And so what I am telling you is to manage your stated fund (read 80K) in such a way that you get yourself a bike, a DOT/ECE rated helmet, a pair of riding gloves, a riding jacket and if budget further permits a knee guard. But then it is all what I would have done if I were in your current position.
Just to help you figure out my point better, here's an estimate
A DOT/ECE rated helmet = 3k
A pair of riding gloves = 1.5k
A riding jacket = 4.3k
A pair of knee guards = 0.8k
that is a total of around 7k for a few basic safety riding gears.
So make your choice wisefully

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
Exactly!! Going for a 125cc bike like stunner or ignitor and using the left over cash for protective gears is much more sensible. With stunner/ignitor, ud get the looks, mileage and also good helmet, gloves, jacket, etc. Think wisely.Originally posted by xpranav View Postnot at all, lets make a little calculation for a family of four riding on the bike

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
Go for the bike you like mate.. all the bikes you have mentioned have pros and cons of their own and they all are doing well and that is why you see many on the road..
As suggested by the fellow xbhians.. do as they suggest.. don't worry about the capacity as of now.. go ahead with eyes closed with honda Stunner/ hero Ignitor..
I would prefer the Ignitor as its got better looks thanks to its lower headlight but stunner is no doubt a proven machine..
both the bikes are same in characteristic maybe minute differences..
With the remaining money.. go ahead with the safety gears and keep yourself as much protected as possible..

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
i rode a friend's 200 avenger...loved the feel. i rode it for about 1km...and i felt the poor braking, but he suggested that it could be improved by tightening of rear brake. i am almost set for it, but my brother, who owns an fz, is against this decision. he says the brakes are very poor, and it will go smoothly till 70-80, after that the engine will stress out. its good for occasional touring and not for daily commute. and that i ll regret my decision after a year or so. hes suggesting pulsar 180 or apache 180.
i m really confused, as i love avenger, but according to him its not a practical choice. pls help me guys...

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
Have you ridden the other bikes that have been mentioned? I'm not sure whether getting avenger would be a very good idea. I have heard of people facing problems with it some time back. Maybe they are fixed now. Take a test drive of all the bikes that have been mentioned here and then decide on which you want to buy and no matter what bike you buy, riding gear is a must. Do not compromise on safety.Originally posted by anarchy911 View Posti rode a friend's 200 avenger...loved the feel. i rode it for about 1km...and i felt the poor braking, but he suggested that it could be improved by tightening of rear brake. i am almost set for it, but my brother, who owns an fz, is against this decision. he says the brakes are very poor, and it will go smoothly till 70-80, after that the engine will stress out. its good for occasional touring and not for daily commute. and that i ll regret my decision after a year or so. hes suggesting pulsar 180 or apache 180.

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
anarchy911
I was in same situation a month ago. I weigh 80+ kg and my height is 6'2". I tested several bikes ( including cbz extreme, fz, r15, duke, karizma r, impulse, apache 180, suzuki gs 150r etc). Every bike had pluses and minuses. And I found that every bike can be loved. Finally decided to buy one within/around 1 lakh. Now one of the most important consideration for me was safety ,and it should be for every one, remember if you are alive and in stock condition
you can live long and can ride whatever you want by working hard ( read eraning). Now coming to bike. I loved the apache 180, took 3 test rides and finally concluded that except for vibration the bike easily qualifies in all areas and excels in some like throttle response, braking, flikability and exhaust note. And then came the biggest plus point, the ABS and that too for 10, 000 INR. For more info on abs use google or see ownership thread for life saving experiences of ABS.
Also I have heard people telling that engine have old outaded technology and all. But if I can get what I want from a few year old technology that is value for money, fun to ride, and provide ABSolute control. I dont find any issue. On a good note its better to be "a bit old" as all the issues are known and can be solved by existing knowledge database of owners.
And as many said safety is must and save some for ridng gears. I would add that invest in abs, you can buy a jacket and gloves after saving for a month or two (doesn't apply for helmets
).
Just my 2 cents. Since I was in almost same dilemma a month ago I thought It may help you. Best of luck.

Re: Bajaj or honda or hero or tvs or suzuki?
Not that I own an Avenger 200, I say you will fall in love with this ride once you understand it completely. Biking is not just owning one. It is more about understanding its mechanics and maintaining it which will take you close to the ride. Avenger is definitely a good choice.Originally posted by anarchy911 View Posti rode a friend's 200 avenger...loved the feel. i rode it for about 1km...and i felt the poor braking, but he suggested that it could be improved by tightening of rear brake. i am almost set for it, but my brother, who owns an fz, is against this decision. he says the brakes are very poor, and it will go smoothly till 70-80, after that the engine will stress out. its good for occasional touring and not for daily commute. and that i ll regret my decision after a year or so. hes suggesting pulsar 180 or apache 180.

* The rear brakes aren't that poor. It is designed that way for a purpose. There is a technique for braking. Since the bike is long enough a crisp rear break would cause skidding and danger to the rider. I guess this is the reason why the manufacturer set the rear brakes that way. The braking in Avenger should be front + rear which works beautifully.
* As for the daily, if you are a guy who likes to get into every gap available between vehicles in traffic, this isn't the bike for you. Avenger is comfortable even for city rides. In fact you will not feel the fatigue if you handle it properly. Start early from home considering the traffic jams and stuffs and you will reach destination comfortably.
* Vibrations are felt on almost all bikes. It is there in Avenger as well. It can be arrested to an extent with proper tuning and dampening.
My Verdict:
Avenger is not for racing or hard rips and tears.
It suits well for a person who is cool, calm and enjoys steady speeds, say at 50-60 kmph with occasional throttling.
The bike provides great low end torque which means no frequent gear shift.
It is easy on maintenance except the open chain system.
The seats does need some padding which I have done.
My Suggestion:
Take a test drive first.
Cruise steadily on a freeway for about 10kms at least and listen to the engine at varying speeds.
Ride it within city limits for half hour at steady speeds.
You will have the answer.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
[P.S. I purchased a used Avenger 200cc and have done some work on it and am completely happy with it. So is my entire family
. I don't think I will repent. I am planning for a few mods now.]

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Dude, Bajaj stopped making 200 cc Avenger/Pulsar sometime back. Are you are looking for pre-owned options too?Originally posted by anarchy911 View Posti rode a friend's 200 avenger...loved the feel. i rode it for about 1km...and i felt the poor braking, but he suggested that it could be improved by tightening of rear brake. i am almost set for it, but my brother, who owns an fz, is against this decision. he says the brakes are very poor, and it will go smoothly till 70-80, after that the engine will stress out. its good for occasional touring and not for daily commute. and that i ll regret my decision after a year or so. hes suggesting pulsar 180 or apache 180.

As said above test drive all of them, preferable with a pillion and decide for yourself. They all are good bikes.Contribute to the environment.
