I called the Bajaj showroom yesterday and asked for the OTR price. They said it was 1lakh 4 thousand one hundred something. It's 4 thousand rupees cheaper than a year ago!

Ankey, I guess you are right. Doing such a mod on a brand new bike is just stupid. Thanks for making me realize.

Anuj, thank god they did that change. "Euroslip", lol. But I was thinking of installing Pirelli Sport Demons by giving the stock tires back to the showroom on purchase. Is it possible?

    Happy to help brother,
about giving back the stock tyres...
what people do here is, take the bike out from the showroom, and take it straight away to tyre shop, they will take the factory fitted tyres for a little less than the true price, and install pirellis on your bike. You just have to pay the amount, over what your default tyre was worth.

It is recommended to do it as quickly as possible, bacause the more you ride on your deafult tyres, the less money the tyre shop will offer for them. hence, the more money you have to spend in changing to a new set.

Talk to a few tyre dealers in your city, about a week before you get your new ride, ask them at what price will they take fresh new MRFs, and replace them with Pirellis and fix a deal before hand, so you know exactly where to take your bike for replacement.
    All the best mate.
May you get your new ride soon.
    Ride safe.

Again, quick answer and to the point! You are like a role model we should all look up to.

Okay on topic, yes I know a good and reliable mechanic in my neighborhood. I will make an arrangement with him. You cleared a doubt that was eating my brains away.

Okay this is probably my last query. I it possible to reduce the seat height by shaving off a layer of the seat or just installing a new front seat with a softer material so when I sit the seat gets pressed more as compared to the previous seat material, thus reducing the seat height? Has anybody done this? And setting the suspension to the softest possible will definitely help I guess. Or maybe there will be too much of a dip on the front fork when braking and its dangerous?

And which MRF tyres do we get on the new 200NSes? Just so thst I can find out the retail value and discuss the trade with the local mechanic I mentioned.

You see things vacationing on a motorcycle in a way that is completely different from any other. In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You are far too kind brother. I'm glad I can be of any help.

Shaving off a few layers or changing the entire material of the foam might reduce the height a few millimeters.

I would suggest to take out the old foam block completely and replace it with new softer foam block that compresses more. In this way if you wanted your old seat height back, you just have to open up the seat cover, put in the original foam bock and fit the seat in place. Also shaving off the layers of original foam may not be even and if will deform the seat. SO go for a new softer foam, and ride it for a few weeks to feel the difference, even if our experiment fails, we will still have the original seat foam with us to restore it to new.

Setting the suspension to a most soft mode will not make any difference to the seat height, it will just make the bike more bouncy on bad roads and speed humps, which is not good for handling. It rides like a bloody camel . Also the bike will make you nervous when you lean it into a corner. This is why sports bike have stiff suspension, to give the rider and bike stability in all corners.

I dont really know abut the type of MRFs that come with the NS, you'll have to check it out at the showroom itself, mate.

And last but not the least, dont worry about asking too many questions. We are here to help our brothers and will always be more than willing to help. So ask as many questions as you want, clear each and every doubt in your mind and then make an informed decision. All the best.

Yeah, replacing the entire foam block is more feasible.

And bro, thank you for making me feel right at home.

I will post any queries if and when they come up .

But I was merely thanking him because he was answering as quickly as I was questioning and was giving proper reasons for everything he was saying. The man was being not just helpful, but extra helpful.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155 or Pulsar 200ns?

Guys I got some new information. I called up the Bajaj showroom in my area and enquired about the chain sounds and gearbox problems, and the person on the other end said that its all fixed in the 2014 version and even vibes do not exist anymore. Is it true? I tried searching in the 200NS ownership thread for an hour, then gave up. If it is true, then I will soon own a 200NS. Excited as hell. I just hope the TD goes well. Someone please say yes and make me happy!!

Your excitement is justified coz its a great fun bike. But why not wait for the 200SS model. The fairing on it will surely be a boon. Unless of course you're into naked street bikes.

I would surely wait for the 200SS if they gave a timeline. Have Bajaj given any dates?

And is the 2014 model of the 200ns really vibe free and with no gearbox problems and simply better quality overall?

Someone please post a link to an ownership post/thread of someone who has bought the 2014 model.

I would advice you to go for the 200 NS, because the initial batches of a new bike may have some problems which are rectified in the next batches. Like in the NS also the initial batches had a few glitches which were then rectified.

As far as the vibes go, any single cylinder engine would vibrate. Its just a matter of more or less. Being said that I would like to tell you that, yes the 2014 model is more refined than the previous one. The vibes are less. The vibes are also because of the crappy bajaj oil. Dont know why but, after changing from the bajaj oil to Motul 5100 ss oil, after 5000 kms, the viberations were reduced and after changing to Motul 7100 Fs the vibes are pretty much gone.
I grip the petrol tank during riding and I don't feel any irritating vibes. (I own the 2014 version NS)

Thank you very much. You have just cleared my mind. 200NS it is then. Anything I may want to know about taking care of the bike? Particular engine oils, coolants to be used? Like what to do and what not to do during the running in period and after. Particular things to look out for before selecting the bike from the lot available to check if it has been abused or just misused. You know, those kind of noob thingies. lol. Since its my first new bike, I want to take care of it like an infant. I'm going to use it for the next 4 years atleast. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all you don’t have to worry about the coolant for about one year, or till you have free services done from the authorized service centers. At every service they will check the coolant level and top up if necessary, but still keep and eye on the coolant level, if it goes down the minimum mark top it up.

As for the engine oil, it is advised to stick to the company recommended engine oil for 10k Kms and then change to fully synthetic or whichever suits you more.

                          Next comes the pre-delivery inspections.
check the odometer reading it should be less than 10 kms, check all the lights, indicators, switches etc.
crank the engine and let it idle, idle RPM should be between 1.4-1.7k per minute. Check for any scratches, bent rims etc.
Remove every bit of polythene from indicators headlights, tail light and speedometer. These protective films contain glue in them, if you don’t remove these and then park the bike in sun, the glue leaves the polythene and sticks permanently to the glass of speedometer, and it is a mess to remove.

Final thing is the run in period of the bike.
Lets first understand why is run is done and why is it important..
When the engine is brand new, it contains microscopic imperfections on its surface (have you seen a wood piece after rubbing it with sand paper, its surface is not smooth and tiny fibers are on the surface). So when it is run for the first few thousand kms, it polishes itself to perfection, so that it gives maximum mileage, max power and minimum vibrations.

So for the first 500 kms speed should be 40-50 and rpm should not go over 4k. for the next 200 kms ie 500-700 kms the speed should be between 50-60 and rpm should not go over 5k. keep increasing the speed and the rpm after every 200 kms till 1000kms.

Now remember, speed is not the key here, RPM is. Keep varying the RPM while riding, keep shifting the gears the rev the engine in the RPM range given above, so that the engine gets polished at every RPM and gets used to running in every RPM. Dont run the bike at a single RPM for a long time, keep varying, shift down a gear take it to 4k then shift up again.

Now as the engine polishes itself, tiny metal pieces from the engine(remember the tiny fibers from wood piece) are mixed in the engine oil which makes it dirty, the oil filter traps these tiny filaments. So make sure to change both the engine oil and the oil filter in every service.

The engine run in takes a long time and about 5000 kms, but the good news is after 1000 kms, you are free to rev your bike till red line and enjoy the powerful engine. The first 1000 kms are very important, it will decide if your bike will give you good mileage, if it will vibrate or not. would you believe that I get 45+ on my R15 in city, its more on highways. all because of proper run in.

I hope I answered all the queries. If I missed something, let me know.

Oh you are making me blush. Thanks for the appreciation brother.
                              ok back to queries.

As long as you have the free services, you will have to go along with what the company wants. They will put Bajaj engine oil and I have no idea about what coolant Bajaj uses.
So as long as you have free services left, no need to worry, they know what is best for the bike, and it is important to follow them, otherwise they wont give warranty.

But after 1 year is over or the all the free services are done, you can use Motul fully synthetic engine oil, its the best for sports bikes. and for coolant, you have a choice of motul and engine ice. Both of them are good.

Oh and one more thing, The Chain. The chain being exposed will gather dirt very quickly and need to be cleaned.A dirty chain increases the drive resistance which decreases pickup, decreases mileage and increases hardness and chain noise. The service centers chagre anything between 100-200 rs for 1 time cleaning and lubing, which is very expensive. So get a chain cleaner and lubricant. The best one is of motul. Search for motul chain clean and lube combo. it will cost about 700 Rs, and you will have 1 spray can of chain clean and 1 can of chain lubricant which will last for about 10 times of cleaning.

It is recommended to clean and lube the chain every 700 kms. but I suggest that every time you clean your bike or wash it, check the chain, if it looks dirty clean and lube it no matter how many kms it has run.
You see, during rains the lube gets washed away very quickly leaving the chain dirty and prone to rusting, so you will have to clean and lube every 15 days, in normal weather 1 time cleaning and lubing will be good for 500-700 kms.

Anything else I can help with, let me know.

And is it possible to perform this mod? Its just fixing a part i guess. Is this the lower fairing of CBR 250R?

You see things vacationing on a motorcycle in a way that is completely different from any other. In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You're a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame. ~Robert Pirsig
