  • Would buying CBR 250R be a good decision now?

    Hello Xbhpians,
This question may have been asked many a times, but still I have no option but asking it again.
I am from a district town in West Bengal, riding a Bajaj Pulsar 150 UG3 for more than 8 years. There have been little to no complaints regarding my bike. Perhaps little credit could be attributed to my riding style too. However nowadays I am feeling like upgrading it.
I have been looking for a suitable upgrade since 10-12 months, almost zeroed on CBR 250R. But a few mishaps in my family restricted my purchase. So my searching for my next ride resumed from where it was stalled.
I am 5'8" average build. Riding experience of about 90K kms.
I am looking for a bike capable of cruising around 100 kms with decent pillion comfort and smooth engine. My usage would be in city 50% highway 50% approx, also for occasional touring. Budget around 3 lakhs, could be extended a little further. Also am looking to keep this bike for at least 5-6 years if not more.
After going through the ownership experience threads of Yamaha R3 I almost selected it but the dealer said it's not available here. [emoji19]
So the choice again left at CBR 250R. But considering its falling sales and age would it be good decision to invest in one? Or should I go for a 2016 Duke 390?
Benelli and Mojo are out of option as these are not available in my city and I cannot go to Kolkata for each and every service related issues, if any.
    Thanks in advance.

    Topic Approved.

Go for CBR 250R. Its a great choice for your needs. YZF-R3, although a fantastic bike, may be tiring to ride on highways due to its racing-suitable riding position.

I think Mojo may be considered, so do a city check on whether anyone plans to open a service center or not. Otherwise, you won't go wrong with a CBR 250R.

There's no denial that the bike is awesome. But considering its age and since the CBR 250R is on the verge of discontinuation, would it be wise decision?

I used to love CBR 250, but now I'm not considering it because it's pretty old now and might be discontinued soon. Anyways, I will be getting my first bike by this year's end so I'm hoping to see new CBR 250, Ninja 250 SL or Gixxer 250 here soon.

Honestly speaking, I don't like any bike which are currently being offered around ~2lakhs

Well *Discontination* I Haven't Heard Or Read Anything As Such From Honda.

Now Lets Talk About CBR250R. I Am Very Much Positive You Must Have Been Through All The Experience People Must Have Written Good Or Bad.

Here Is My Say On CBR250R. If You Happen To Buy One You Really Need To Take Care This Babe Will Not Take Any Crap Riding Skills From No One. If You Clean It Pamper It Good, In Return It Will Give You The Same Feelings Trust Me You Will Fall In Love With That.

Buy ABS Mine Is ABS Model Worth Every Penny. Smooth Suspension And Spot On Breaks Nothing Better Than CBR250R Trust Me.

In 250cc Class CBR250R Is The Best If Your A Smooth Rider.

If Your Ruff Rider Not Going To Take Care Of Your Bike Then Buy A Horse 🐎 At least It Will Bite You Back And Let You Know What It Wants.

          No Offence Just Kidding Here.

Obviously your decision of buying the CBR 250R is good.
I would say it is still a winner in its class. The riding posture is more upright, perfect for your riding in both city & highway & the pillion seat too is comfortable which results in strain free riding. The refined engine is something to which you may get addicted and the bike handles so well that i have become a fan of it.
And remember, CBR 250R has been the machine which was worth the wait and has been loved by every owner of it.
Get the ABS one as said above.
It is definitely one of the finest quarter litre motorcycles of the world even today.

Re: Would buying CBR 250R be a good decision now?

CBR 250R is definitely one of the best choices you can make, coming from a pulsar 150. You can go for either the RC twins or the duke 390 (heard the duke 200 needs a lot of gear shifts which is tiresome for city riding) but the RCs give a lot of physical strain and the duke 390 does not offer the best comfort.

The r3 might be a good choice but then I feel it is overpriced for what it offers comparing the competition. Also you might have problems keeping it in the torque band all the time which makes twins sweet to ride. Indian highways offer a max riding speed of 120 kmph consistently and for that the cbr is a very good option

You can also consider the pulsar 220. Very sweet machine to ride within the city (picks up from 40kmph from 5th gear like a charm) and at 120 kmph (it strains quite a bit crossing that mark without crouching) and the latest ones have vastly improved front end suspension, crisper throttle response and much improved rear brakes with the bybre setup.. The only thing you will miss compared to the cbr is the ABS (if you go for that option) and worse pillion comfort. The rear stand does scrape over speed breakers with a pillion but that shouldn't be a deal breaker IMO. You will end up saving a ton of bucks (during purchase and during ownership) compared to the cbr. Oh and lets not forget the awesome projector lamp

I almost considered the cbr when i wanted to upgrade from the p220f (the first lot from the carbureted version) but considered the maintenance expenses, spare part costs and serviceability and chose the latest p220 again, and barring the worse pillion comfort (not abysmal but the mono on the cbr is definitely plush) compared to the cbr I have no complaints . The RVMs are useless completely but then you can just cut and weld the RTR rvms which works perfectly.

No idea about mojo though so you might want to test that out also.

Since I am from Kolkata too and reading all your words and at the last that it wont be possible for you to go every now and then to the svc - you have THESE options
                  Bajaj - AS200
                  Hero - Karizma R/ZMR
                  Honda - CBR 150/250R
                  TVS - Apache RSV4
                  --------------------------
I own Karizma R 2014 model - in my case I will choose Karizma - simple maintenance - hassle free . Till now at 10K km still the bike is new and fresh - proper maintenance is the key point in my bike anyways it is my own decision . The rest lies with you.

I have left the Bajaj bikes for a personal reason. I have been riding Bajaj bikes since 2002. Before that am used to be a pillion on my father's Chetak. So wanted to taste some different blood. [emoji39]

If you have a KTM SVC nearby, go for the 390. Else CBR is not a bad choice.

Good decision bro. If you like the CBR just go for it. It will never disappoint you! Even if it's old you still get a lot of attention when you are on it. Its worth every penny. All the best

In fact I have a KTM SVC just 100 mtr away from my house. But would 390 be a comfortable one for a pillion?

Thanks. But attention is not what I am seeking. I am looking for a hassle free bike with smooth service experience for at least 5-6 years as I intend to keep it for such long. That's where my doubt lies.

However I'll be visiting Honda Dealer today or tomorrow.
