Why didnt you include Yamaha Bikes in the list??

You can look at Fazer(around 80k). It definitely looks different than the FZ16 or FZ-S. I think it is the most stylish bike of all the bikes in the 150cc class other than the R15(1.1 lakhs).

Kinda, Enfields are big bikes so, if your not into the big bike thing lets rule it out. The P220 Dtsi, killer bike man. Go for it. But then again if he is seriously unhappy about the fixed headlight, the next best option is the Apache RTR 180. So my preference is as follows:

          1. Pulsar 220 Dtsi
          2. Apache RTR 180

Sometimes though, most guys whine about small things like the fixed headlight and other cosmetic matters even on their dream bikes cause they are out of reach and basically makes them feel better about the bike they currently ride. Just a thought.

            Welcome to xBhp!

            My recommendations -

1st - Pulsar 220 DTSi - VFM bike with loads of power, fixed headlight notwithstanding! No negatives as such. At home, both in the city or on the highway. After all, its India's most powerful bike currently on sale. (Excluding the Bullets.)

2nd - Apache RTR 180 - Raw pulling power combined with nimble handling and sporty seating position. Best for city riding.

3rd - HH Karizma - Comfortable bike, can tour the whole day long at a brisk pace. Best for touring. And of course, it has HH reliability.

So, as you can see, I have pointed out what each bike's strong points are. Choose one according to your priorities.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Among the choices you mentioned : Pulsar 180 would be best VFM...

              ^^ +1... Lucky guy
+1...stretch your budget a little bit, say 7000 and you will get the best VFM i.e Pulsar 220, and mark my words you wont regret too, pillion comfort is also good enough in this bike.

Well thanks for your appreciation. He loves bike and riding and I am happy to see him happy. So some effort is not much a big thing.

I am not sure about the Enfield as PHOENIXFLIGHT asked is it the Royal Enfield the Police use ?? If it is that it seems it is more bulky for city drives. I do not know if they produce smaller bikes. Not sure of the cost though.

SHANZ thanks for your detailed post. Ya as per you have listed I might shortlist out the RTR180 and Pulsar 180. Funny though before visiting this thread I did not shortlist the RTR180 I do not know why.
              And no sisters for me.

So as somebody said that the RTR is not much good for taller people, is it the same for RTR180 also???
I have absolutely no idea about the tyres and all those stuff. Is the RTR tyres really a problem??

After reading all your posts I have decided to visit the TVS and Bajaj showrooms this weekend and if possible Hero Honda showroom also. I will somehow coax my younger brother to accompany me probably some extra pocket money to him will do the trick.
I will take a test drive along with him and see which bike is good.
Also I can have a close look at the Pulsar 220 and decide about it.

Anyway other technical inputs are welcome. As I am a complete zero in those matters.
You sound more knowledgeable than most of the newcomers here, hope you have dont a lot of RnD on bikes.

Like which girl cares........sorry, even thinks about RTR's tyre ?

                Your welcome!

O.T.- anyone! bring me a bottle of vodka coz she dnt have any sisters!
Even any similar quality frnd of urs will do fine!! (just kidding as usual, he! He! :-P)

As Already suggested its a Apache 180.
But go to showroom with ur younger bro take a test ride and then decide.
They wont let you both ride so insted go to a small testride on the bike with any showroom guy so than u can check the rider comfort!

                5'9 is fine for a RTR 180!
Never worry about the height factor.
Though tyres are fine on RTR but the point is they are not exceptionally good.
That simply meant that tyres are works okay for a RTR! But if ur fiance is not okay with the tyres then he can change them for 2-3k
If ur shelling out 70k bucks on a bike for ur fiance, then ur fiance can easily shell out 2-3k bucks on new tyres for his gifted bike.

Remember even if u buy a p220 or fazer but finally its him who have to ride.
So if he dnt like stuck headlight looks then its pointless for him!
                Thats why choose wisely..
                And DO NOT CONFUSE URSELF!!

Hi Shilp - Just wanted to know if u did a research on Karizma, does your Fiance like Karizma ?
Karizma may not be your option as I do not see that in your list
However My suggestion would be for a Karizma anytime - Because its proved itslef in every aspect - (City/Tourer, No Back pain, Comfort Pilion, great handling, 150cc & above, FE-40kmpl and many more)
Since he is already riding a 150cc, He can now upgrade to 223cc - I am sure he would be pretty happy

I think we are all making great suggestions but have definitely ignored a very good option - Karizma! I am a Pulsar 220 owner myself and very happy with the bike.

If you guys will be using the bike i.e. with you as a pillion, i would think refinement is important. Also hassle free maintainence. Pulsar 220 does want some more TLC. Also its slightly less refined that a ZMA. Thats the only reason why ZMA is also a good option over Pulsar 220. But if you want long distance comfort, power, and performance and can make do with a little less refined engine, Pulsar 220 is the bike.

As for RTR, I think the bike is a little small to ride long distance with a pillion.

First of all, welcome to Xbhp and hats off to you lady.Your boy must be real lucky to have you on his side (along with the gifted bike)

So coming back to your problem.I think out of the listed bikes there are only three which must be zeroed on:
                          1.P220
                          2.Apache RTR 180
                          3.P180

See most of the talented and experienced folks here are suggesting the P220.Very simple reason is that-it has power, refinement, looks big, meets all your requirements like pillion comfort and is the best tourer (only second to Bullets) and above all it's a great VFM.But like you said your fiance do not like fixed fairings so it's better think twice before you go for it.Anyways,it won't matter once he get used to it.
Now, the second in the list is RTR180.It looks good.Power is amazing, pillion comfort is not bad at all(except for the vibrations from the foot pegs at high speeds),gives you decent fuel efficiency of about 40-45kmpl.Best for city commute and overall it makes biking involving. And no it isn't bad for riders of height 5'9.I am completely relaxed whenever i am riding it.Tyres-some people say are not exceptionally good but i think they do their job pretty well indeed. And it's all up to your mind yaar. Before RTR180 i've ridden many apaches and never felt anything bad with their tyres. It's only after i joined Xbhp that i came to know that TVS tyres are not good for many reasons. And since then, at every corner i feel like the bike is loosing grip..so if by chance, you happen to buy the RTR don't tell him these tyres are bad!..

3.P180: Nothing wrong with this.It has power to match RTR180.Looks sharp and is more like a P200 now which all Pulsar owners loved.Secondly, ride is soft,so that translates into better pillion comfort.Touring capabilities are also better than the RTR as there are less chances of back-aches in Pulsars compared to RTRs.Now this is the bike which is a mix of P220 and RTR180.I think it fits the bill nicely! but but but...is he ready to own a pulsar yet again???..Something you need to work on..
If you can't ask him about bikes tell your brother to discuss about which bikes he likes or just a casual talk on the topic! I am sure this won't give him any clue as men only talk about two things- women and fast machines!...
I've seen guys who love Pulsars no end.Their day starts and ends with Pulsars! It's only Pulsars they dream of! So,if he's something of this club ..get him P220 or P180..no apaches!..but there are some who think it's time to move on to some other brand..so even if they know P220 is better and more VFM,they settle down with RTR180!...

Keep us updated about which one you are going for!

BTW, what's your name shilp, shilpa or shilpi?....i am still guessing!
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

                            lucky guy

Now this is one very interesting thread and Shilp for sure I am jealous of your fiance.

First I thought I wouldn't offer my two cents since it is a very tough thing to choose a gift/bike for someone else and as rightly said every bike has its two sides.

Here is a cent from my side.

Since he already has a bike that he adores, let him keep it for the weekdays and for the weekends you can gift him a tourer and by that I mean a Bullet or an Eliminator/Avenger. New ones may be well over your budget but maybe you can think about a fairly used one.

I would really like to know what bike gets finalised here and I am sure there will be a lot of confusion until the d-day
