Hey, you do write nicely! I can very well visualise the situation going on! I will keep it short and simple - go for P220! Else Apache 180.

If you like both equally, go for a toss!

And no, the absence of the kick is not a problem at all!
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

If your pocket allows then definitely go for the pulsar 220 , else the apache 180 is also a good bike . But i would prefer the 220

Thanks again guys for all your help suggestions and inputs.

As usual I am sorry I am replying again to all in general.
Well first of all to be frank I am really confused now. Many new bikes again.
Many people here are suggesting the AVENGER now I did not know much about this bike at all.
Just saw in ads. Well now this was not in my list. Again the Karizma also was not in my list.
Ok I will decide about those later. But before that I want to tell you all about today.
Well today was a eventful day. I had been to the Bajaj and TVS showrooms with my younger brother.
And he test drove the RTR 160 , RTR 180 and I was the pillion.!
My word the RTR 180 was simply superb. It has really awesome power. I never rode on a 180cc bike before.

After riding the RTR180 the RTR160 did not appeal to me. The 180 was really in a different plane. The showroom guya was really eager and he went on telling about the bike. Well I understood very little.
My brother was happy with the bike. He was asking me why don’t I buy him one!!
Well I had nearly made up my mind. Then after this I went to the Bajaj showroom. Here the problem started. My brother test drove the Pulsar180 and god……it was also awesome. I never knew a difference of 30cc would make so much difference.
Now the problem is I liked the Pulsar 180 also!!!!
My brother was quick to point out that the Pulsar 180 does not have a Kick lever and its only Electric start. Now would this not be a problem????
I really had problems when my old Kinetic Honda would not start in winter with the electric start. Will Pulsar 180 have the same problem.
The story does not end here.
The next in the line was Pulsar220. The bike seemed really huge to me at the first sight. My brother too was a bit weary to drive it. But he did and I was the pillion.
I don’t know how to describe the experience. It was just out of the world. It is also an awesome bike.
Now the problem is I like all the 3 bikes.
Thank god I did not have time to go to the Hero Honda showroom, I don’ know what might have happened after riding the Karizma as you all guys had suggested.
But I think the Pulsar 220 and karizma might not be in my scope. I am not sure yet.
Now….now….and you guys suggest AVENGER…well the list is going on.
Well it is not like my dresses shopping where I take whatever I like. Here I have only one option.
So I do not know now what to do….
        RTR 180
        Pulsar 180

        Pulsar 220(not sure)
        Karizma(not sure)
        Avenger

Final word guys…..please let me know. One final opinion of all.
Thanks again. I have really learnt a lot about bikes from you all.

        pulsar 180
        pulsar 220
        apache 180
        avenger 200
        karizma new
        karizma old

it would not be a problem to have a button start and not a kick start....good very well maintained bikes can be started only with the button...there is a reason as to y the kicker is eliminated.... advancement u see..........

        sit down....
see what u like in most of the bikes above....
kindly put down minus and plus points....
and when u decide a bike got to go outta ur list , just cross it over...

        weigh options carefully...

there are no more bike that can be suggested... coz i feel so.... u'l end up more confused...
.... i kno u wont make a bad choice... ive said this in my earlier post too... maybe u skipped it

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

i would suggest u go in for pulsar 220!! the most powerful in its segment.
the fixed headlight is not at all a prob.. p220 has the best headlight on a bike india..
and kick starter is not at all required. the pulsar has maintenance free battery.. worst cases, the bike can be push started...
            pulsar 220 dts-fi clocks 145kmph!

              Okay here we are finally!
A girl totally confused in rocket science on wheels..
I knew it would happen one day.,not uselesly Im cribbing in all my posts that dont confuse yourself.

              So here we go again..

Pulsar 220- great bike indeed, u was moved by the diffrence of 30cc, can u imagine the huge diffrence of those 70cc's?
Ofcource if u find yourself comfortable with the p220 Then this is the ultimate choice.
But I am still uncomfortable with bajaj issues!
              Before deciding anything..
Please visit the help me section of xbhp and check out the diffrent issues with bajaj bike specially p220!

Apache 180- it was good to find out that apache pillion seat wasnt that bad for you!
And if ur unsure about p220 then this is the unbiased ultimate choice after p220!!
A word that explains it - simply superb! And u know what..i dnt have issues like bajaj!!

Pulsar 180- indeed, diffrence of 70cc thrills more than 30cc!
So i will always number it below apache, coz apache is better than pulsar 180 anyday!!!
              Wont recommend you still,..

Avanger 200-if ur comfortable with apache then forget the avanger, its old, its out! (for me)
              Wont recommend you either!

I havent included the karizma for two reasons..
1st - new karizma fi is on way its way to be launched and
2nd- many, many years old, reliable and very refined mill is good for touring only, performance wise p220 takes the lead!!

              Final verdict-
Pulsar 220 (if u neglect the bajaj quality)

Apache 180 (if ur comfortable with its pillion seat)

These two are the ultimate winners for me nothing comes around!!

O.T.- please dont take anymore test rides or soon u will be ordering dozen of p220's, apache's and karizma's coz inspite of being confused u loved em all!!!
              Bah!!
Girls will be girls, no matter watewer they do!!!

                Hey Shilp,

After going through all the posts of yours, I would suggest you to start a poll between P220/A180/Carb ZMA if you are looking for our genuine opinion. PM mods for assistance.

IMO all requirements will be fulfilled by either P220 or Karizma. With that tempting price tag(of P220) I would suggest you to seriously consider any one of them. Pillion comfort is important and I don't think Apache 180 will be that comfortable than P220 or Karizma.

I know this suggestion is out of place in the topic of discussion, but safety is important.

Do have a look at Avenger otherwise go for apache RTR-180. But comfort-wise,avenger is the best. You can go for P220 if budget is not a problem and u can compromise on comfort-levels. I think get him a bike other than a pulsar so he can experience a total difference!(personal opinion)

One thing more,i want to say that a pillion sitting in a p220 always fear of falling off. I can say this as i own one and have experienced this!

@shilp-Instead of confusing yourself more just sit down and decide on the three bikes that you had a chance to experience. If you want then you can add Karizma in this list but that's it. Including more number of bikes will just add on to your confusion. Take your brothers help as he is the one who rode all the bikes. One more thing not having a kick starter is not a problem so don't worry about that.

Here's is my order based on what I understood from your requirements.

                    1) Karizma (Just for the fact that it has the most comfortable pillion seat of the lot)
                    2) Pulsar 220
                    3) Apache 180
                    4) Pulsar 180

Also as setu pointed out if you want a final opinion of all the members here then I can add a poll to this thread but that might not be correct representative as most of the time we tend to select the bike that we adore instead of looking at the person's requirement.

@shilp : Add Karizma to the list and stike off all others, you will be left with Karizma only. Go for Zma-R and if money isn't issue, go for ZMR.

                      Good Luck !

The poll would only show biasedness(or fan-following) and nothing else.

Initially she was confused as she was unaware of the performance bikes(Rocket Science on two wheels in her words ) and hence started this thread.

But now she is probably even more confused seeing the choices.

@Shilpi : Best of luck. Do let us know which one you selected finally. As this thread may be used by lot of people out here for obvious reasons

maybe some blostering of the rear seat cusion might help). Moreover some guys might not like the crusier riding style of the Avenger.

Now here are two options from my side:

Option 1: Go for either TVS Apache RTR 180 or Pulsar 180.

Pros: Both models fit perfectly in your budget, they are decently powerful upgrades from a 150 cc bike, would return a mileage around 40-45 kmpl

Cons: The RTR has a sporty riding position which makes the rider crouch and reach for the handlebars which is sporty enough for city rides but at the same time this sporty riding stance might put stress on the rider's back and arms. So it might not be comfortable for the rider on long rides.

The P180 is comfortable for the rider but the pillion might not be comfortable on the rear seat as the foot pegs for the pillion is set a little bit high, which makes the contact area of the bum of the pillion on the rear seat less and hence the bum of the pillion starts to hurt after a couple of hours of sitting on the rear seat.

Option 2: Strech your budget a little bit and decide between the Karizma or the Pulsar 220 DTS-i

Pros: The Karizma is comfortable for both the Rider and the Pillion for even long rides. The Pulsar 220 DTS-i is currently the "Fastest Indian" made bike, you and your fiance might feel really special on these bikes.

Cons: Both bikes would stretch your budget by around Rs. 10,000. Fuel efficiency might be a bit less (around 35-40 kmpl range) and yes both have FIXED HEADLAMPS. The Karizma also historically has had an issue with availability of its spare parts and expensive replacement costs. On the other hand the Pulsar 220 also has the same kind of rear seat as the Pulsar 180.

My Advice: First decide on either option 1 or 2 and then further refine your decision based on the two models in each option.

                              Best of luck.
