Apache RTR vs Yamaha FZ

I can say that RTR is very low in maintenance, i own one since 20mnths & clocked nearly 35K. Till date i haven't changed any spare except for the rear tire & clutch wire once at 11k. Its absolutely 0 maintenance.
Daily i travel a min of 50k in city, its real fun driving RTR in city with its tremendous pick up & handling.
I even done good no of long trips varying from 400KM to 2500Km without any issues at all.Give way to trains.

for your kind of usage, the RTR suits fine...but resale value may not be as much as the FZ...I'd suggest the 180 though.Long rides is not exactly a cup of tea for both the bikes here, but the cc advantage comes to RTRs rescue...I hardly use my RTR for long rides, that's better left to my ZMA...It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

For city ride both FZ and RTR are very good as @Satyen said on FZ you can lazily move around the city. RTR is a very good option though...
For long rides - i am using my FZ to go home and return(to working place which ~700kms) and found no probs. in long rides, really comfortable(not as pillion
), i haven't ridden RTR on long rides... so can't say about it...
As low maintenance part check he he he check out the previous posts of me and @SP...LOL...

My vote will go for apache rtr as it's a good bike for city and long drives.
RTR moves very quickly in traffic, easy to handle, and looks on a bit tougher side because of the body work which is not plastic made. But yes it vibrates a lot. On the other hand FZ is a smoother bike. but still as per the mileage factor rtr has a upper hand with better fuel consumption. but for resell factor yamaha will get the upper hand. As both have lesser maintenance which are kind of negligible. I think RTR is better because it's better to put your money on a stronger tank and body part, and your legs will feel safe on those hard tanks. The Cradle Rocks Above An Abyss, & Common Sense Tells Us That Our Existence is But a Brief Crack of Light Between 2 Eternities of Darkness...............

I was also confused between the Apache 180 and FZ. I took a test ride of both of 'em and found RTR180 uncomfortable to ride(something i didn't expect coz i occssionally ride my cousin's RTR 160). So in the end,i had to pick the FZ and i have got no regrets till date. I suggest you to do the same. In my opinion though ownership experience is kinda same for both bikes as already mentioned here. FZ is a pure city bike while the RTR is a pure performance bike.

so this my experience my friend got Apache 160 FI and I got FZ
Apache PICKUP AND POWER is awesome thrill is there...
But Apache seat is uncomfortable, seating posture, loads of vibrations at rpm above 6k, and the most annoying part is SUSPENSION it got crap SUSPENSIONS looks are just OK TO ME..
FZ: Great looks smooth and thrill is there too
Got no vibs, but wide handlebars that might be uncomfortable to some.. not for highway commutes
I had to make the same descision between Apache and FZ but in the end it was FZ-S for me..
and after riding my friends apache for some time I think I made a better descision... as I can sacrifice on FE and POWER but not on comfortable riding..Riding, loving and enjoying my lord of the streets.. FZ-S...

FZ has a crash guard.... I got it installed the time I bough the bike costs arnd 700rs....
it looks good not like the silver chromed guards which are standard on other bikes....
and with the choices given i will go for the FZ as it is better looking than an RTR (subjective though), easy to handle in the city plus the low and medium end power is amazing you can actually pull the bike from a speed of 25kmph in the fifth gear.... plus rtr is a bit small bike for a 5'9.... although rtr scores in top speed and efficiency because of the FI.... (wish I can get an FI mod for FZ.....)Last edited by kinshuk.arya; 02-25-2010, 08:28 PM.Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

Personally, other than being quicker and faster, there is nothing else better in the RTR than the FZ. Regarding handling, RTR might be a sharper handler but only just, having ridden both bikes I can say that FZ is almost equally sharp and can be even more fun. In all other aspects, I would rate FZ better than RTR anytime. FZ is much smoother, more comfortable, definitely better looking and personally I find it a better city bike.
See, here’s the thing. RTR might be having couple of thousand rpm more than FZ to rev, but I’ll be happier revving the FZ due to its smooth engine than revving the RTR because it almost feels like falling apart due to heavy vibrations when nearing top end. Smoothness of a bike adds to the overall riding comfort and RTR lacks in it. Moreover, for riding around town FZ is powerful enough with competitive handling.
So there it is, as per me…

true
one thing i love abt FZ is tht, even when doing 120,its very smooth and no vibrations at all.
and at the end, both the bikes score equally, but targets diff. customers,if you are not going to drag and race the big boys, then its FZ.
I tour and ride along with a P200 and a R15,ive never felt out of place because at the end of the day you are not racing, you are biking.Smoke rubber, not tobacco.
