I'm In boys provided something odd doesnt pop up..

too many colleges, too little time and a middle aged Irish chap to question my intentions of leaving the office.

Ragav - Good to hear that you will be on this ride. I always thought you would just not decide any until given sometime to think.

Glad that you have right now decided to participate.

            The ride is on 10/29, 10/30 & 10/31.

I pressume Ananth will take count around first week of October. You have more than a month's time. Don't you think you have enough time to convince your Manager to get ONE day off (assuming sat & sun weekly off)?

I've been reading all your posts about "leave" - not just Rajesh - and I'm wondering if times have really changed so much - are you guys really so worried about leave that you need to plan so much in advance?

Just curious, cause in my day ( a loooong time ago ) if we wanted leave it would be like " Boss, I'm off on such and such a day/days " and the attitude was pretty much "... and f**k you if you don't agree cause I'm not coming anyway!!"

I find it hard to believe that all you hot-blooded youngsters are so terrified of your bosses!!

I'm not saying that we were an irresponsible lot ......well maybe some of us were ....but that you need to 'plan' a single day!??!

Blame it on the competition out there in present days world or blame it on the more systematic approach followed by the MNC's these days. Back then qualified professionals were very less but now unqualified people are very less. Hence its better to hold on to present job and have a good name at it.. Or may be we are more responsible lot

I can understand what you saying..

IMO, planning for the ride starts off with applying leaves so that we are sure of our Clients and Managers are informed of vacation time. This not only secures our time off but also give some heads up to them so that they make alternatives, in any.

Some have the privilege to give short notice for time off and some like me don't. .

I don't agree the qualified/unqualified professional on the context of applying leaves these days.

Systematic approach if followed irrespective of qualified or unqualified professionals, everyone is displaying professionalism of which ever sector they belong, is my personal opinion.

Would like to clarify a few things here...

Not only the times, but the business model too. Who would want to wait these days? Right from loan to laundry no one wants to wait & so the rush for everything.

Right we're changing from being irresponsible to responsible to business. We're no longer trying to behave like Govt employees

If we were terrified, we would not dare to ask leave right? But its just the planning stuff. We've our own plans while our supervisors have their owns, I mean w.r.t business. So our leave shouldn't affect the business & that's the point.

Well got the point, but again, it depends on company to company. To me, everything is mystery. There're days when I spend doing nothing from all during the day & there's work piling up at midnight. I'd be on vacation & all of a sudden there would be a con call. So it all depends on the business needs & nothing to do with bosses or terrifying.
