      • Leh 2012

        Dear friends,

I have started a thread for a trip to Leh in 2012; I could not do it this year so have planned it for the next.

May I request you to give the thread as much publicity as possible so that similarly inclined members can get together? The thread is in the Tourer section and is named The Leh 2012 Planner.

        Thanks in advance,

        Regards,

        Maneesh

Vishwas ji is usually the one with good concrete info..

As for the plan.. I don't really have anything to say about it or add to it.. I've been to Ladakh but we flew to that place and went around in a car to chumathang, kargil, changla, etc..

As for the staying and accommodation, since you and a few more are in the Army, it won't really be a problem.. I'd gone back on '08 while my dad was still in the army so the accommodations were ready by the time we got to our destination for the day.. I'm sure you'd be doing something similar too..

All in all, its a great place! Majestic in beauty and outstanding in temperatures .. Try to get a roof over your head before the day ends

                  • What a day it was! For sure it was one of the most memorable days of a handful. Had been to Ralegaon Siddi. Truly, leading a huge group of non-bikers in a double file in a perfect procession with speeds of 25~30kmph with short bursts of speeds in between was a job commendable. Met the man behind the lokpal, he wasn't keeping too well but still he was very glad that people had come to visit him fro Pune on bikes. Spent about an hour with him.
Ralegaon Siddi is one of the most beautiful villages I have ever seen, although cigarettes and liquor are strictly prohibited, I like that place too much. The air is so fresh over there and with all the surroundings draped in greenery and trees and shrubs in full bloom of flowers, made the place look as if Mother nature herself lives there. I had forgot to take my camera and missed a many of the shots which, if taken from my phone camera, would had been an injustice.

                    - Jai Ho!

Edit: Anyone travelling on Ahmednagar road please carry a cloth to cover your nose as the highway is laden with dog corpses and is way too stinky.

                      • Hey just a small update from my side regarding the condition of Kas lake, i and rohit mule yesterday went for a ride to kas lake. The climate is good and the rain gods also gave us very heavy blessings and the tarmac was too much rough with a slight mistake on corner and you are given a hug by the road. and your rims will take a good beating on the road if you try to push too hard.

We left from pune at 10 am and reached satara junction at 11.20 am, and than after crossing the city we crossed the first ghat which has a single lane road, you can say but the condition is decent as compared to roads which fall ahead and vehicles used to come from both the sides including volvos so we have to be bit careful on blind corners so average speed maintained was like 50ish. Going further we got a very good road for 1 km where the forest check post also falls and than the pot holes started to occur everywhere. It was more like potholes are raining on us and the entire traffic was moving at a speed of 10-15 kmph and all were like riding on first or second gear. Reached further ahead and saw two Wagon R were stuck in the ditch on the left side of the road and last but not the least blessed by rains.

Overall a exciting and beautiful with off roading ride.

                          Hi Srinath,
If we are going to Kas Plataeu, then I'm not sure if we are travelling via this route. I have been there on Saturday with family, but I took the exit from highway before the main over the flyover of Satara (next to Assal Kolhapuri) then take right below the flyover to catch SH74. From there till Kas Plataeu it's less that 1/2 hr but the road travels through dense population & traffic (considering I was there at noon) till ghat but no or very little potholes. The Kas road pass by the Ajinkyatara fort.
~270KMs round trip on GPS from Wakad. Also Ghat road on this side is not that bad, but it is single lane & I didn't see any Volvo's except ST & mini buses apart from SUVs but traffic was not that dense.
The road from Kas Plataeu descends to Kas Lake. We didn't go to Lake.
Also on the entire route I found most of the potholes between Wakad & Katraj!
Here is the route which I took. The exit I took was at Bombay Restaurent Chouk where I spotted a Ducati..

Very practical bike. Sitting position is very upright.

Braking is the only downer. Bad braking results in sub par corner entry speeds but great low down torque enables high corner exit speeds.

Stock tires are Bridgestone Battlax. They offer great grip in straightline, leaned over and in wet.

The bike feels heavy at standstill and it feels heavy when moving. It weighs 210 kgs dry.

Wind blast is minimal at 200kmph and you would almost never have to crouch down on this bike.

Max torque is achieved at 7.5k rpm and thats when the pull is maximum.
Max HP is achieved at 8.5k rpm but that is hardly felt.

Perfect for touring...great for indian conditions... Japanese quality.. Kawasaki throttle response is something that will never let anyone down.

The inline twin parallel is tuned for blistering torque..dont expect horsepower from it else you will be disappointed.

All said and done...whoever wants to buy it..cannot buy it. Bookings are not gonna open till diwali and they will resume next year along with 2012 Ninja650R model.
