True. Then ground clearance should not be a problem. My concern was I am still in engine runin period (Although i have taken her till satara and lonavla non stop past sat n sunday) Is it advisable to do long journeys before 1st service?

P.s Im trying to arrange for a riding gear. If that's arranged i will join you guys for the weekend ride.

Very True- "Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity."

I like- "Bikes are not supposed to be a rational decision. If you can park it and walk away without looking back to admire it, you got the wrong one."

The process of running is to make you engine free from all the unwanted elements and to make it run smooth.

As you know you need to heat up the metal and then you can mold it the way you want but if you hammer it again and again it breaks and you need to restart with another block.

In a bikes case this 'BLOCK' is the engine. The idea is of running in is to mold the rough parts in engine to their smoothest form so they can settle there for a long and smooth run.

Now if you do a lot of heating and continue striking the block breaks/deforms, so what you need to do is t heat up the system and to hammer for some time so that you reach to the next stage; close to the smoothing.

So run your bike for a while for example initially 10 -20 kms and stop there for a while say 20 - 30 mins and then do the same again and again.

Later you can increase the interval ie. 30-50 kms and wait for 30 mins.

There is another part to this running in you need to set your piston rings and need to smooth-en the gears in the system.

For that while you are performing the 10-20-50 km run vary your rpms that is the piston cycles as will as shift your gears.

To do this start with keeping one parameter constant:
                          1. lets say you keep the RPM's constant ie. 4000 RPM now now do a 30-40 second run on each gear starting from 1 to 5(6) and then drop down from 5(6) to 1 again. repeat this for few cycles.

                          2. Now the other way lets keep the gear constant now ie. on first gear vary the rpms from 5000 to 3000 and then 3000 to 5000 (mid range is still 4000) repea it for each gear first incrementing then decrementing.

After sufficient running on these parameters say 500 kms. increment your ranges by 2000 rpms.

i recommend you to change the oil and oil filter @ 500 kms even if your first service is @ 1000 kms; because the oil filter and the oil in first 500 kms of the bikes gets iron fillings which you have removed in smoothning process above they can damage the system so removal of the same is needed.

All the details provided above are not only theory i have applied them on my bikes and this knowledge is gained form the senior members who really gave solutions of whatever problems we faced; and since none of them is now a days visiting the thread you dint get an immediate reply as we used to get.

Now after reading all the rubbish i wrote do you still want to go on a long ride in running in period? with so many stops?

                          Happy running in...

I am scrapping all my long ride plans now Your post is very informative ( good analogies used) Actually i was very unsure on which running in procedure to adopt. Read various posts about different methods like moto man method etc etc. To be on the safer side i was following what is given in the manual , "avoid sudden acceleration and hard braking" . When on highways i open the throttle gradually till 6-7k rpm and once had a 130kmph burst. Keeping her under 6k rpm most of the time and shifting gears between 3000-5000 rpm. I make sure i ride her everyday after office. I do about 8-10 kms every day ( short 25-30 minutes trip) with gradual gear shifts n acceleration. I hope there`s nothing wrong with the procedure i have adopted so far since i have cloked 500+ kms already.

                            Thanks
