  • Hi,
I am planning to visit Dandeli national park next week. I have 3 days with me (or 4 if i am missing something). What are the other places nearby that i can include in the trip?
I am currently thinking of doodhsagar waterfall and amboli ghat while returning to Pune. I'd really like if someone could give some more details about dandeli regarding accommodation facilities, adventure sports or any other spots nearby which shouldn't be missed.
    Thanks..

A good ride it will be. If you are taking the Belgaum route then roads from Khanapur till Dandeli can be expected to be not-that-good. At Dandeli you can do the following which would be a lot of fun :
      1) White water rafting in the Kali river. (last time I was there was 2 years back and they charged Rs. 650 per head. Also it was dependent on whether/if water was released from the dam to the river)
      2) A dinner around a bon fire in the middle of the jungle. The local people can arrange that for you.
      3) If its still allowed then you can go for the Jungle safari in a hired jeep.
In case you are looking for accommodation let me know. I can pm you the contact details of the person who had arranged for our stay/food/activities when we were there.
Very True- "Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity."

I like- "Bikes are not supposed to be a rational decision. If you can park it and walk away without looking back to admire it, you got the wrong one."

There will be a lot of agents around who will scout you for accomodation cum activities. If planning for rafting , the last time I visited they were charging 1300 per person w/o transport i.e transport from end point to start point costs extra. There are some other activities like nature walk , safari (totally depends on luck if you can spot something ) , natural jacuzzi etc. For stay , once we stayed at kamaths near bus stand nice room & clean place for 500 bucks for a double room. The other time we had a sort of guide with us who arranged everything for us , stay was good at a jungle camp quiet far ( around 15 kms ) from dandeli. Costed 1000 bucks for a double room , but no electricity out there - hopefully it will be chilled out there .
BTW goa is just 140 kms from that place , why not have a beer & laze around goa for a day ???? Return via sawantwadi -- amboli--kolhapur --pune route
Contact number of the guide : 0828 4258513 . He may not remember us - just call him and he can arrange and give all the info. He does not charge any extra guide fees as they get commission from all the activities , stay and everything they plan including the liquor shop they take you to

        Food :
Shetty lunch home for non veg & drinks avbl at same place.

        Just note ,
1.) petrol pump at dandeli doesnt accept cards until 10 in the morning , so do most of the hotels & stays - carry surplush cash. We had planned a trip on credit card & had to return without doing any activities & just in time for fuel at belgaum

        Enjoy !
        Cheers,
        Pai

That said, do you think an 18" wheel will affect stability of the motorbike? Or would cause other issues?
I honestly did not know that Bullets are available in 18 inchers these days.

I don't think the stability would be affected, per se, as Bullets are usually not ridden at such high speeds where the loss of an inch of diameter would cause dramatic changes in the centrifugal forces which, as you may be well aware, cause gyroscopic effects contributing to stability in a straight line albeit at the expense of directional dexterity.

The choice of tyres would, of course, be limited, even at 18 inches, by the width of the rim. Bullets are OEM with 18 inchers, as you have inputted, so there would be a decent choice of tyres too?

Yes CROSS ones are really good in terms of quality as well as protection. I bought them more than a year ago for around Rs 850-900 from pro-biker itself and extensively used them for rides as well as my daily commute to office. Entire stitching is still intact and I believe they will serve for one more year at least(may be even more).

              • I heard there s been a crash at lavasa involving a john doe on a KTM and a local politician on a commuter bike.Multiple fractures for both and some random stone pelting.I guess its better for the regulars and the newbies to stay off lavasa for a while till things cool off.

Might be a rumour too,but why take your chances ? Go have a long ride on one of the highways.

                      Hi,

A few places nearby could be -
                      1. Sintheri Rocks. - DO NOT get into the water.
                      2. Another place that is nice is called "Mavlangi". No tour guides will take you there. Ad Its soon going to be cordoned off.
                      3. Jungle Safari as of this September has been closed down.
                      4. You can visit Yana near Gokarna - hardly half a days ride.
                      5. Sahasraling is another place. Not for its religious significance, go for the beauty of the place.

Kamat's near the bus stand is a nice place. If you venture out to Old Dandeli, you will find places that charge around Rs.800 for stay and food. (Not very sure about it though)

                      Have a nice trip.

                            • Route Query

                              Hey!
I'm planning a trip, and I need some inputs to finalise my plan. Here is what I have in mind.
                              Route: Pune-Gokarna-Dandeli-Doodhsagar falls-Pune

Day 0: Leave Pune by 2 PM, reach Gokarna by midnight
Day 1: Chill at Gokarna, visit Yana and reach Dandeli by evening
Day 2: Relax at Dandeli - full day
Day 3: Leave Dandeli early morning, reach Doodhsagar falls. Finish sightseeing etc and leave for Pune. Stop en route somewhere near Sawantwadi
                              Day 4: Sawantwadi to Pune

Q1)Is Day 0 plan feasible? We plan to take the Pune-Dharwad-Yellapur-Ankola route. We will try and reach Dharwad by 8 PM. Is it safe to travel on NH63 at night so that we can reach Gokarna by 11PM, or at max by midnight? We are meeting friends there who will be coming from Bangalore, so we want to reach on Day 0 itself so as not to spoil the next day's plan. Does this seem like a stretch?

Q2)I wanted info on what is worth visiting near Dandeli, but I aleady got that thanks to Viper, karthikpai and mahesh Has anyone been to Yana? Is it worth a visit?

Q3) On the return from Sawantwadi to Pune, we would want to come through some Konkan territory. Anyone know the current condition of NH17(new NH66) between Goa and Mumbai? Also, which would be a good ghat to get back onto the NH4, somewhere after Ratnagiri?

Any other comments/suggestions are also very welcome.

                              Thanks!
The more you know, the more you know how less you know.
The less you know, the more you think you really know!

Pune to Payyanur and back! 3 days on the road!
