I went to Shirdi last week through Pune-Chakan-Manchar-Ale Phata-Sangamner-Shirdi. Here are the updates:

    1. Pune-Chakan: Traffic, but good road - Four lane.
    2. Chakan-Manchar: Few bad stretches in between, but not for very long. Two lane roads from here on.
    3. Manchar-Ale Phata: Miles of good two lane, straight road and lots of trucks, so a lot of jostling for overtaking etc.
    4. Ale Phata-Sangamner: Very good, no issues
    5. Sangamner-Nashik: I dont know

    Cheers!

          My questions:
          1. Is it safe to replace a hub with another?
          2. Should I go ahead and replace the whole wheel instead? In this case, is it possible for me to buy the hub and spokes and build it on my own?

For any of the above solutions, can someone guide me to a reliable shop where I can be sure of getting a good product.
          1. Yes.
          2. Since the rim is rusted (and if its deep, close to getting a hole - better replace the rim too). Yes, you can source all the parts and build on your own.
Bullet Rim, Hub and Spokes can be bought from Kewate Motors(stores Bullet parts only), Bhavani Peth.
To fit them all together, you can either visit a shop next to Bombay Scooters in Nana peth OR there is another good one near New English School on Tilak Road.

The rear wheel hub of my Machismo 500 has decided to give way after 40000 Kms of use and abuse.

One of the guys at my mechanic's workshop tells me that I can just get the rear hub replaced.
However, I have seen that the rim is also rusting from the inside.

            My questions:

40000 kms is called as decently good lived life for the rim mate and replacing the entire assembly including hub, rims and spokes are important, reason being if you put a new hub with old rim and spokes, the overall strength would not be as good as expected and dont be surprised if after some months/year time as seen in some cases of my friends they had to again replace the rim, spokes and hub.

Regarding mechanic there is a mechanic called aslam near shivaji nagar and he is a really good mechanic as far as experience of bullets go, may be you have to leave the bike for a day or so as he takes his time and does excellent jobs.

I think with TC number you can use for 15 days in city limits and in that time the number should come normally, but make sure you have insurance and other documents with you.

Phoenix --> ranjangaon --> nashik is a excellent road, but beware of crossings.

Get to know your bike well first , go on smaller tours of smaller distances . MSH4 should be a breeze , but traveling after dark may be a problem owing to route & road conditions. I personally do not suggest NH17 solo to any one who has not ridden on that route before ( Some may say its normal route , scenic etc. But I say based only on my personal experience )

Try to see if you can hook up with someone for the tour If going solo , I would suggest the following :

                Day 01 : Pune -- lonavala -- khopoli -- pen -- kashid -- murud -- janjiri -- diveagar
                Day 02 : Diveagar -- shrivardhan -- goregaon -- poladpur -- mahabi -- pune

I am not against driving long. In fact I do not even have much experience of touring on bike .

                Cheers,

                  • @red_redemption: Last week I went taking the Nagar highway. The route was Viman nagar - Shikrapur - Ranjangaon - Supe - Ahmednagar - Rahuri - Shirdi - Nashik. The roads are super smooth till Nagar. The road after the toll naka before 30 km of Shirdi are rough patches & there is a bit traffic after the toll near the bridge as there is a new bridge construction going on the right side. The nagar route is smooth & straight unlike the Chakan route which has hill on offer & is shorter. Hope this will be helpful.

Won't a public holiday would also attract lots of riders?

Sir, from what i have seen.... its a kinda tradition that Sunday has to be Lavasa.... i have observed this with xbhp n also RSA riders.... hence i said Public holiday.... not sure about the traffic condition on such day... but i guess it might be less....

I dont agree to this.... Riders in your lane at speeds exceeding 60 are far more dangerous then tourist crowd at 40..... plus... a tourist vehicle is encountered just once but those senseless riders have to be dealt with in each lap which increases the risk.... and at least on this Sunday the no. of senseless riders was far higher the those who were riding within limits....
