One day return ride to Ellora Caves, Aurangabad.
Visit to Ajanta Caves is optional and will be decided after reaching the first destination based on the time available, road conditions and everybody's interest.

Have you been to Ajanta & Ellora? I had been there last year, and believe me Ajanta is better than Ellora.. Ajanta will take time as you need to cross Aurangabad and will have to climb up on the feet, but it worth a visit as compared to Ellora.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion bro . Haven't been to either of the the caves but heard lot about both since childhood, specially Ajanta and always wanted to visit. Now more inclined towards visiting Ajanta than Ellora after your recommendation. Only concern is that Ajanta adds 200+ kms to the ride and total ride goes above 750kms, sound a lot for 1 day ride. But will talk with the guys who are willing to join and then take a call.
Could you please guide us about the road conditions towards Aurangabad and Ajanta

Shoot.....I was so wanting to go some where in the East of Pune(as we're going to Ghats/Beaches for almost every weekends for last couple of months), but now this is on a weekend I might not be available .
Lets see, in case my Mumbai plan gets cancelled, I am in for this and will update here.

Yes you are right that 750+ kms in a day and you will have to visit Ajanta which itself will take 3 to 4 hours. Roads are good till Aurangnabad (a 4 lane road) post that it reduces 2 lane road with lot of villages on the way. Do we visit the Panwala in Aurangabad city which sells a Raja / Rani pan for 3000 INR (you do get a normal pan for 10 - 15 bucks).

My Suggestion would be make it a 2 day trip, 1st go to Aurangabad, check in some place, and move to Ellora to visit by 3 and should be done by 7 pm, post which you could have a dinner in city.
Next day get up early (6 am) go to Ajanta and try to finish by 12 - 1 pm, post which come to Pune via Aurangabad.

Thanks a lot for the road conditions update buddy, it gave us confidence for this ride . And also many thanks for the plan suggested. Unfortunately those who have confirmed(including me) so far wont look ready/prepared for the 2 days trip on such a short notice . I think we gonna do touch, relax, explore and return from either Ellora or Ajanta (based on what we decide after reaching Aurangabad). And I my self is big Pan fan, so will for sure visit Panwala in Aurangabad

I beg to differ. I found Ellora to be a LOT better than Ajanta. At Ajanta, you see one cave, you've seen them all, but Ellora has a lot more caves to explore and they aren't the same. Cave 16 is breathtaking!

If you are coming from Chandni chouk then Warje vala Shell PP is approx 200/300 meter before the Warje bridge...
