    • @ Antz, Surojit and others -

On a serious note, we can keep on having some small things happening all the time but in any activity, enthusiasm of participants reduces as the activity drags on without showing any results. I do not want to make fun about your enthusiasm but anything we plan to do has to produce results.

Also any efforts, if not designed to produce dramatic effects, don't usually work. A simple example is a road show. It normally happens outside all popular colleges / youth hangouts. But most of the times you see sleepy guys giving away handbills, some compere chick either checking her nails, sms, chatting with a boy friend or just drinking tea. A company spends more than 10k/day just to have this kind of a roadshow. It produces zero results.

Unless you have something innovative, eye catching thing happening or even an ordinary thing happening on massive scale, people don't take notice.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Honestly, fear of cracking your own skull open in case of an accident is more of a motivation for wearing a helmet, rather than seeing someone else wearing one and reading pamphlets.

If people dont care about their own head, not much of a chance they will listen to someone else.

Lead by example. There is nothing inhuman about NOT trying to talk sense into someone.

Dude.. I have lost 2 friends in not too distant past, who also happened to be my Best friend's (and long time Riding partner's) 2 kid brothers, in one motorcycle crash.

The incident has changed our lives permanently and I refuse to just "Do nothing and keep on enjoying riding." Because.. frankly we cant do that anymore. Since my Best friend happens to be the last remaining living male member of the family for his generation, he is currently not allowed to even touch his bikes (yes he has 2). And I miss not being able to ride with him. This happens to be one of the reasons I am so bloody damn interested in educating people about merits of wearing a helmet. Do you not think that I am leading by example.. I guess every active Pune xBHPian is currently leading by example. But if that is not enough, who else will go ahead and talk sense into them.

Alternately, Instead of education, we could force them into doing it.
According to the Times of India article posted by Vishwas a few pages back, you can be fined if you are caught committing a traffic offence. And not wearing a helmet while riding a Two Wheeler in Pune city is a Traffic offence (according). Then why isn't everyone not wearing one fined at once? All we need is a PIL!

Edit: I have included the article for the benefit of the other members:

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

            My condolences.

But my point still remains. And yes, when you talk about friends and relatives its a completely different thing. They know you they trust you. I am talking about the general public awareness.

The point you make in the last paragraph is very good and perhaps is a feasible approach. I think that rule is currently in effect in Mumbai.

            • The point Hyperion is trying to make is this...
In practicing, what you attempt to preach; you are already preaching. Preach anymore and nobody will give a shit. Sadly

We all hate those emails or phone calls....the ones that tell us someone we know has just been involved in a motorcycle crash…and that can be a real “buzz-killer.” Trouble is we all know that is going to happen again and as always it seems that there is nothing we can do about it…or is there?
Wear a Helmet and/or wear protection. Thats all you can tell them. Throw it into their face and they will start dissing you. Sadly

To the average joe commuter motorcyclist, helmet and its usage in the society is too trivial an issue to even merits its discussion. To them riding is an activity just like any other trivial but repetative activity, like brushing your teeth. Sadly

              But Hey,
if you guys do arrange a ride through the city I will be gladly there with great fervor and bring along some loud "look at me" sound files. Happily

              • @ antz - somewhere back in this thread, I had also detailed why people who don't wear helmets are not fined any more in Pune. Please go through it.

                • Sorry to break the flow of discussion, does anyone know who has a black K8 Gixxer Thou with stacked exhausts on one side? Saw it in my area yesterday.

Most probably my departure date will be postponed.

That's exactly where these activities we plan should be targeted at. We need a policy change. The nay-sayers to the helmet rule need to be out shouted by the people like us who are for the helmet rule. Preaching to general public may work, but in just a handful of cases. I guess the objective of our activities therefore should be to affect policy change. Pl feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

But what is your point in this post? Are you trying to scare TenHut off this thread? Remember how some senior experienced riders have now stopped contributing their valuable knowledge due to uncharitable comments by guys like you and some from poojari gang?

Don't dump on this poor TenHut guy. He is so timid, nervous and shy..........

                            • It seems we are moving out of the main agenda of the ride planned today evening and the purpose behind it.

Lets start with a small agenda of just putting XBHP poster behind our jackets and bikes at least no matter how many of us start from Sus road till our destination, if nothing else we can tell about our XBHP community.

We can discuss all the matters of what will be the main agenda for future city rides and all with momos
