Very imp to have a cool head over your shoulder. Its tempting to go in to a corner when you have already planned it in your mind. It needs strict discipline to hold-on till you get clear picture of your exit path.

P.S. Better said than done no? Easy to blah blah

if there isnt enough vision or if the corner is blind it isnt tempting to committ to the corner at all. It is rather super scary ! Tempting is that what is done in complete vision for then you can throttle and get that knee down by carrying enough speed.
When I see a vehicle or a blind corner I just suddenly abandon everything that I am doing and straighten the bike up and cruise.Attempt is to make that a reflex action.
You will see that a handful of good riders cornering at lavasa are in the opposite lane when at their apex. Check them pics out at FB. These guys have nailed the corner and are pulling one handers or whatever they think is cool, but unfortunately they are in the opposite lane
As you said, it takes discipline. But it does not take skill to not cross your lane and to not overtake in blind corners and as such can be done by anyone and everyone at lavasa or anywhere else.
Untill recently even seasoned lavasa riders like Sagar46, Ritwik, NV used to cut lanes at lavasa untill we all collectively realised the importance of staying in your lane.
Vision or not ! Traffic or not ! never ever get into the opposite lane, it will be a good idea to expect someone in your own lane though

I had seen that video earlier on FB.. Scary video I must say..

Well am not as good as Mr. Tenhut at explaining/simplifying things to people but still, yes.. it's always better/best to be patient at blind corners in ghats. Though I like sport riding/cornering junkies, am more of a sport tourer than a sport rider. Therefore will talk keeping that in mind. Blind turns in ghats can be extremely tricky at times. I am just back from a long ride to Goa n Karnataka and during that ride have managed to record some on-board videos, especially in Kashedi ghat - one of the biggest ghats on NH17. Though my riding style is still not even close to perfect, one can see in those videos how chose to be patient at blind corners and didn't mind crawling behind multi-axle vehicles. In couple of corners, you can even see had I entered that corner without clear exit in sight, overtaking the bus/truck ahead of me, I could have been in deep shit. Vehicles, especially fast moving cars cut the time to react real fast and you'll find yourself with no where to go.. Have posted the links to the videos in tourer section(and on my FB wall). I've learned this lesson the hard way that's why taking the pain to type this in.. Not that I crashed while overtaking on blind curve but things could have been pretty ugly.. Was a close call.. (It was a few years ago when I used to ride a 200 )

          • I totally agree on this part. Earlier, there was this consideration that if you can see the entire corner, its ok to cut lanes but recently, all of us have decided to stay put in our lanes and forget the oncoming lane's existence.

And what Tenhut says is true again...riding on public roads is scary and not a bit exciting. The concentration levels and anticipatory skills involved here are totally different to what one might use on the track.

From our experience of Lavassa and rides around, we can safely say that there are idiots who will come into your lane on blind corners and fast corners...prime spots to look out for while riding fast.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
