@ABZ, Sorry to hear about the incident. I understand how you would have felt after the bent rim. The problem with FZ 's and R-15 alloys is that they are fragile than other alloys of other india bikes. Other alloys also prone to bends, but these yamaha alloys crack once they get bend, and you cannot try your luck with tube. Also, the low profile of FZ tyre needs very often check of air.

hey...dont you get it...its all an instant reaction...what do you want him to do....see the hole, stop the bike like in matrix movie, get down the bike, shift it left or right, get on it and then go???dont put unnecessary blame as you weren't there and it was a situation where nothing can be done except go through the pot hole...

well what can I say but F*** Yamaha.....
The beginning of the trip was amazing, good speed of 80 - 90, good distance between riders, n good break fast...

Our way home begun by me taking the RTR180 i guess n we begun changing bikes....everyone was in the mood of pushing the 'other' bike to its limit n see its capabilities...

Then back to my FZ-s doing 90 going up a small hill n just after reaching the top. I noticed a big long pot hole(well)..... n it was sandy so my reaction was Fly high...... I was flying high but unfortunately landed badly.... I warned Javeed n rahul who were just behind me n parked the bike to make sure the front shocks were intact.... Only to notice that my rear rim had a slight bend leading to air leakage...one great disadvantage of a tubeless n yamaha product.....

had to get to the nearest shops at low speed n tried hammering the rim only to find a crack after the 2nd hammering.... plan B was to put a tube...

It really worked for about 20-30 kms n it got punctured...... Wanted to repair it again but no puncture guy had 18 ring(FZ owners carry in ur tool kit).... Finally found one.. repaired the puncture n the tire wasw fit... good to go right?? It was punctured before moving...... Opened the tire again only to find a 6 inch cut......

What should I do???? Told the guy to put the tire back n ride 80 kms without air(DONT TRY THIS AT HOME)
did at 65kph till sanipuri if am not wrong and to an auto back home..
NOTE : FZ owners carry a spare pair of rims before going for a trip....
Ah, brings back fond funny memories. Last time I went on the highway with the group, I had both my rims bent It was in the night at almost 9pm. We had to fit a tube in the front tire and later got to know that even the rear had a bend. Then I had to fill air at every bunk I crossed and made it till Himayatnagar. Was an unforgettable experience! Me riding with the bike in a trolley with a drunk driver zipping it like a f1 car with a bunch of crazy stupid xbhpians laughing off to glory dipping lights on me lol

On a lighter note, take it as an experience. It is a part and parcel of highway riding. Dont blame Yamaha. We had people dozzing off and banging into lorries too Its not all about the quality. Its because you have low profile tires and hence you ought to be more careful as they will be delicate. The price you pay for more performance and handling. Next time around, dont take your fz through offroads and be more careful. Treat it like how you you would treat a maruti swift with 19inchers

Buddy, take it easy. He just showed his frustration in the post, he never flogged Yamaha as such here. If you were in his situation, you would feel the same. Shit happens and if you had no mishaps with it, good for you.

Nopes, it wont go under warranty. It should be covered under insurance.

                        • yesterdays trip was a really wonderfull trip for me . not making fun of ABZ incident , but when no mechanic was willing to touch the FZ we got 2 great mechanics who undertook it themself to set matter straight , Sahil and Rahul , seeing them get to work, it hit me its so important to know a lil bit about your bike so that when such incidents occur you know what to do .
i was really impressed with Rahuls's idea of putting in a pulsar tube to get it temperorily running and sahils knowledge of mechanical issues . if it were not for these two guys i think ABZ would have to ride back home with a flat tyre damaging his alloys as well a his tyre .

                            • hi all

nice to know that U guys had a nice trip - ABZ, don't get frustrated and as Sagar rightly said - its now all about quality. It was a combination of things that led to it - the low profile tyre, the alloy, the speed + our beautiful roads - just like life - throws surprises to you when U least expect.

You did a great job by handling it, not skidding/hurting yourself, cautioning the others and avoiding further trouble.

Coming to the rim - have heard of such events in the past. Also, biking/riding isn't just about having a great bike, going to a lovely place, hitting the top speeds or red lining. It is about enjoying every moment of it irrespective of the ride or the destination + some know how about the basic mechanicals/troubleshooting helps a lot especially on longer rides.

In the older days(pre tubeless) you cud bump into a pothole, get the rim bent and still reach him wobbling and later get it fixed, but then those days are gone.

I would still say - take it as a learning experience and then there is a saying that goes "everything happens for a reason". The reason what I see for the rim cracking is the hammering. From whatever little I know, a bent alloy can't be fixed by hammering. It first has to be heated to a certain temperature and then gently hammered(special one) to get it back into shape - hammering without heating the alloy will definetly crack it. Even a busa's rim would crack in that situation. Steel rims were a diff story.

Yes - Sagar knows this quiet well

BTW I and Moeed had a short trip yesterday morning. We started off from Mehdipatnam food world, past the gmr and from its other end we reached Barkas, had some haleem at 8am and back as I had a class to attend. Moeed tried the Jawa while going and I rode it on the way back and amazingly the Jawa did 100kmph a cpl of times on the way back when I rode it. Oh I still haven't gotten its rims trued. Will get them done this week.

Anyone has an idea if we have the vintage bikes/cars show as lumbini on 26th?
