      • How to maintain Two Wheelers during Rainy Season.

        Hello,
Maintenance of bikes and two wheelers during the monsoon and rainy days require some extra care, than the normal maintenance, to safeguard the riders from the attenndant risks. Several tips are in this article.

        Pre-riding tips:

Tyres should be adjusted to be suitable for the wet weather, by lowering the air pressure by say 2 to 3 pounds per square inch. During rainy days (and not on normal times), this has to be done, to enable grip and to avoid skidding. Normally, under inflated tyres result in uneven wear and tear.
Lubricate, properly the gear lever, brake pedal, side stand, main stand, chains, etc, properly. Do not lubricate the brake and clutch cables, as they lubricate themselves. Any extra oil during the process will lead to a disadvantageous position.
Ensure that fuel tank lid is absolutely air tight so as not to allow any water seepage into the tank. Keep the breather hole in lid extremely clean. Sometimes, dirt also is likely to get in. This would result in engine break-downs. (If there is a mix of water with fuel, drain out and use fresh fuel.)

Cover the ignition switches, HT Coils and silencers with plastic sheets
Ensure the spark plug adapter to have a proper rubber boot and be insulated and to cover properly the control panel switches.

Fit a proper seat cover. Have mud flaps on both the tyres to keep your shoes and dresses clean from the splash of dirty water while driving. Do not use any FRP or plywood or PVC boards to serve the purpose of mud flaps, because the former can block the flow of air on the engine cooling fins and force the engine to be heated. (Though it will not have much effect during rainy days and short distance riding, generally it is advisable to use mud flaps, because we cannot be changing between mud flaps and PVC or other materials often, in tune with the seasons.)
        Tips during driving:

Apply the brakes gently, otherwise there is a danger of your toppling over. While you happen to apply the brakes suddenly on wet roads, switch to a lower gear just as you are breaking. This helps the engine stop as well and stop the vehicle suddenly. Simultaneous actions are important here.
Lighting on your brake lights and other indicators will act as shields to avert any major accident, since.
During rain your visibility will be poorer. Use zero power photo-chromatic specs to avoid the two pronged attacks of glare, one directly from the vehicle lights and the other from the reflection from the wet glossy roads.
        Post driving tips:

It is advisable to avoid washing the bike with ground water or bore well water. Use lots of fresh water. Driving while raining partially ensures this performance. After the rain, dry the bike and also examine to find out whether there are any scratches or chipping off in the plated parts. When the bike is dry, apply the anti-rust paste, using clothes, in all the spots where the chrome has peeled off or the paint has scratched.
        General tips:

Use a riding cover on the handle bar and bike.
Keep checking your engine oil regularly. If it is milky, change it immediately before it damages the engine.
Above all, carefully and cautiously ride the bikes, as there is no tyre in the whole world which will not skid when roads are wet and in slippery condition. Happy riding & Ride Safe!!

        • ^^^Nice informative post there, Hyderabad is gripped in rains right now, and there's a cyclone alert in the coastal Andhra, so its effects will be here in our city too.

But why to avoid washing with ground water?

            @ fast_ferocious - Thnx.

Here's the answer, What happens when you wash the bike with Ground Water.

Hard water spots appear on your car/bike when you wash it with water heavy in minerals. When the water dries on the car/bike, it forms small water spots that can be visible in the sunlight. If you continue to allow the water to dry in this manner, the minerals in the water will eventually effect the buffing and paint job. However, there are steps you can take to prevent hard water spots from forming when you wash your car/bike.

Each time you rinse the car/bike after washing, use old towels to wipe the water off the car/bike. Dry the painted portion, chrome, and plastic parts of the car like the bumper. Go over each part several times so no streaks of water are left as these can also leave marks with residue on the car/bike surface.

Many people think a rain shower will wash off the dirt from the car/bike. However, rain, like all ground water sources, can also contain a lot of minerals, as well as dust and dirt, and leave spots. If possible, store your car/bike in the garage during rainstorms.

and Congrats to Shashi for his most awaited bike R15.

3 Bikes in One shot...what a transaction. and 3 happy people.
So true. And I guess Shashi has to work with the R15's gearing for some time to be a happy person after getting used to the ZMA's low-end torque.

Though the roads are empty, you need to be extremely watchful for dogs.

Last time I gave the wrong prices...
The helmet costed 4100. package consisted of Helmet, LS2 helmet bag, that yellow cloth and the skull cap.

                            Balaclava is 250

total cost was 4700/- so the clear visor is 350.

The helmet's fit and finish is awesome. If I have to compare it with the GPR dragon helmet that I have. its much better inside. all the vents work smooth and interiors and visor operation/fitting is slick. the inside of the helmet below the interiors looks good too. I am pretty happy with it.

The a* (I am not really sure if its original a*) is made of microfibre cloth. feels great. but the opening for the eyes feels little small. I would put photos of the helmet and my ninja look later today.
