Edit: It was probably a wise idea NOT to crowd the scene as per Kakkar's version above but in an effort to not crowd, NOBODY stopped!. Consequently I don't think the issue is only at the lower levels - the issue is that nobody is being held accountable for ANYTHING anymore at ANY level. Edit: Seniors blame juniors for being immature, juniors blame seniors for not organizing and educating. Its become a laisez faire system where people do whatever the hell they want, some come and express philosophies indirectly and "properly" without trying to piss anybody off (me included) and we get lost in general discussions and nothing is done about anything. Lets DO things to prevent stuff instead of accusing people of being immature - the immature don't care to read our philosophies, they need good facebook pictures to impress the fairer sex and its our duty to make sure they get those photos in a safe environment.
The bold part is what bothers me the most... The rides become more like rave parties where people come at their own risk types and do what the heck they want... And then we are the ones who look down upon rowdy bikers and say they give us a bad name... And we are supposed to be people who are supposed to convince the world that biking isn't hooliganism like some people think but a "lifestyle"... I don't think we are anywhere close to that... We are just getting lost in our own philosophies and images...

As a result of this every newbie to still-not-yet-senior rider has this anxiety to keep up pace and be up close to the person in front out of fear of losing their way. I saw this happening on this ride with a few riders in front of me .. you can make out the anxiety to keep pace (especially when traffic comes in the way) and I have also personally faced/done this on some of the earlier new rides with xBhp. This anxiety might be the cause for the rev happy crowd, or at least some of it. I can vouch for one person for sure (as it was very clear and he admitted to it at BWMC) that it was the case with him and he wasn't a new rider!
For a change Kakkar I agree with you... The more I raed this forum the more of a farce it seems to me... Safety, guidelines, group riding, riding ethics are just exercised in theory... It is just faffed here and nothing is followed in reality by many...

What sort of an excuse is that...? If someone takes the responsibility to lead he should be able to adjust his speeds... If he is leading I assume he has many kms under his belt AND he has taken responsibility of the group... And moreover how can someone not be comfortable at "slower speeds"...?

Sandeep, I don't know of anyone with either of those blood groups but just a suggestion, post a phone number where you can be contacted so that someone can get in touch with you directly cause I don't know how often you'll be able to check the posts here. All the best and hope your friend recovers soon.

There is a fundamental difference in the skill and approach towards the art of group riding. This was precisely why I was harping on every one to NOT leave with the bigger bikes or unknown groups. But I was in for a nice surprise when I came out of McD. Most of the people disappeared! I dont want to indluge in mudslinging but its a fact. For what? a stupid picture with\from the roadtrip team? wasnt there enough opportunity for that?
or brushing shoulders with the other groups whose riding style we arent sure off?

With only Saurabh, Tushar, and a few other hand full of people we began our ride and had a fun ride to the destination with NO incidents what so ever. Ofcourse we were a smaller group.

What beats me is this. If I can ride a Ninja650 in about an average speed of 60-70kmph why were the rest of you all ashamed in your f'cking punny bikes? Its not that I cant speed, its not that varsha is afraid of speed either. And trust me its not my arrogance about the big bike, Its that sense of responsibility when in a group. And THAT was grossly outnumbered!

              • guys i am still a noob out here, so dont know how many people will actually take my point seriously... but on the way before hitting the highway, a small group was riding along with the GIR riders, as the speed limit was controlled by the GIR riders in the front, they did a fair job on taking control over the group, when suddenly a group a cbr guys zoomed past by... the guys lost it and engaged in a rip-off, also one of the cbr riders wasent wearing any helmet..just a jacket... he was riding alongside the GIR team they totally just let him be.... i was expecting atleast the GIR team to talk sence in him... also if the accident that is been discussed about is the one before the E-highway... then i must say that there was atleast 15 bikers standing there along with the 2 GIR members who signaled others to proceed... looking thing were in control under the experience, many decided to carry on..

                • Looking at this first pic i was very disappointed as it reminded me of the Ducati ride and the formation we had..

Although I was not able to ride due to few reasons I wanted to capture this mega ride in perfect manner for which i arranged for car with sunroof so that pics n videos can be clicked nicely...

But I was not happy with what I was looking in my RVM and after few kms I made U turn to head back home...

I think I too made a mistake by bringing car for shoot as I felt somewhere every1 wanted to get clicked and didn't care much about formation riding

                      • While coming back from BWM, one guy while riding came upto me and asked me what the top speed of my bike was(while riding) and I said it could touch 90, he was like "bhaga!" and suddenely started ripping his bike. This guy was new I guess. I don't know him but I'm sure this is what the newbies now think xbhp rides are all about. I drove at my own pace as Satyen had instructed us at airoli at the very beginning of the ride and didn't try to "keep up" with anybody.I'm sure if the rules were followed we all would have stuck together, but I guess I'm partially to blame because my bike can't keep up, but I'm not ashamed of it. If he didn't want to ride at my pace, fine go ahead I won't stop him. Just another incident I was just reminded of so thought I would share it here. No offence to anybody.
I would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

I think, and this is just an opinion, that people deserve to know what goes on in rides not for voyeuristic pleasure but so that they know that things really do go wrong in rides, so we don't come across looking like theoretical bikers who keep preaching guidelines which nobody needs to read .
^^+1.. I was a part of the ride & have no idea what/when/why went wrong as alike most others, i was waved off to move ahead stating things are in control.

Alu bhaiyya, I dont know the severity of incidence or the need to withold the information regarding this incident in this case but if at all any of such info helps any of us learn in any way possible, i guess the details shouldn't be kept in dark from the forum.
If no such viable reason to share the incident, the info might as well stay offline rather then being un-necessarily argued online

Besides events such as our mega g2gs ENCOURAGE and DO attract 100s of riders to come and ride together which is the point I'm trying to make ie if you encourage so many, then make sure they have enough experience with xbhp riding protocols (restrict it to a subset) or if they dont, then make sure there are enough seniors taking responsibility for leading them without getting bogged down by sheer numbers. But all action/enforcement has to come from the mods - it won't automatically happen - there's enough evidence that it doesn't automatically happen.
I reached McD by 7.15 & after over an hour's wait, finally people started moving on. No briefings, No splitting groups whatsoever. I geared up & left McD as well. Thankfully, there was a huge lineup (almost30-40 bikes of xbhp'ians) just outside McD on the main road I was mighty delighted, expecting a short yet meaningful last minute group riding tips.
After a 5 odd minutes wait, the engines start, bikes in front start to roll & the entire group was on the way. I was surprised. The bikes overtook each other for gaining position in first lot of the group. I was overtaken by atleast a dozen & I admit I overtook a few as well. It was a sight to behold, no position for any bike, the positions were constantly switching

When we got on open JNPT roads, there was a little group disciplined group riding & the speeds weren't bad either. As many as 20 bikers sped away just as we reached Panvel & when we reached NH4, thankfully i was in a group (self formed) lead by a very cool guy on a bullet/enfield. The guy never exceeded speeds of 80-85 kmph no matter how open & clear the roads were & we (myself & 6-7 others religiously followed his lead in what can be called as a formation)
A few times, some impatient riders did break the formation & rode almost next to the lead bullet/enfield rider or even surpassed him for some time but that guy never did anything rash, maintained his cool & atleast the rest of us happily cruised alongside.

The point of the narrating the entire above episode in summary: i wouldn't say the seniors (assuming the enfield/bullet guy was a senior) fail completely to control the rides. In that group, i was riding just behind Mandar Bhandare who played his part well by signalling whenever needed, never breaking the formation.

All went well upto the place near khopoli where we saw many xbhp'ians aside on a road & there was an obvious accident. Naturally we stopped to. Mandar was asked by some senior to move ahead with the juniors rather than crowding the scene & as the things seemed under control, most of us did move ahead.

After that, it was khandala ghats & it was all hell break loose.. I had been on that ghat for as many times as most of mumbai xbhpians but never on a R15 & hence i was dying to test her cornering potential but i was overwhelmed by the number of Ninja's & CBR's out maneuvering each other on every corner as if it was the last lap of a MotoGP world championship & I was blessed to see the Lorenzo vs Rossi type events live in front of my eyes
Thankfully no horrific incidents apart from one where a Ninja almost went inside a truck's front tyre on a corner (exceptional control by the rider i must say, braked & controlled the ninja well at the last moment)

                          Thereafter it was expressway.
No one present at Lonavala exit from the express way & I stood right at the exit waiting for a buddy. I saw a few first timers who were carrying on the express way even after lonavala exit (thankfully they stopped at my signals, reversed back & took the exit)
I left the exit as well after almost a 50 bikes passed by.

The ride till BWMC was not uneventful, i was with a small group. I had an idea where BWMC is but didn't knew exactly so as we rode along NH4, i saw BWMC on my right & the two bikes in front of me just kept cruising ahead instead of slowing down for a U-turn. I was sure they missed the BWMC & hence ripped to catch up with them & managed to catch up with one Karizma guy but other one was out of reach. We made the U-turn & reached BWMC safe & sound.

Pardon my noobness but wouldn't it be helpful if atleast one senior rider/or the one who knows the route stays right on the important diversions/turnaround which no one(especially the newbies) can afford to miss on such huge rides ?

Before pointing a finger at any seniors, I shall blame myself as even i could have volunteered myself & stayed on the opposite side of BWMC guiding the oncoming riders to make a U-turn.

Well these are just small incidents, nothing is perfect. But as the seniors say, especially Satyen Sir 'We are long way to go yet as far as Biking, especially proper group riding is concerned.

Nevertheless, it was a great ride. I'll cherish the moments forever. I thank the respective seniors Nitin,Mandar,Bullet guy & I apologize to the rest(especially to Chinmay for ripping away before Panvel) if there was any noticed error on my part.

Missed the familiar faces of Ketan/Rachit/Rohit/Alankar/Biru sirs. Their presence would've helped incredibly.

Nevertheless, some other day, some other time
                          Cheers.

Would love to ride again with mumbai xbhpians.

                          • My first group ride from Vasai-Airoli was perfect. And it was the same from Airoli to McDonalds.
But the ride from McDonalds to BWM was crazy! I got a hint of the ride, when we crossed the JNPT section.
The CBR guys, who the hell called them.I Seriously felt like kicking that sardars ass. He tried to cut me twice.I was almost saved once.
Talking about group riding, people forgot what group riding was all about. I saw the GIR rider riding the Ninja, waving his hand and flashing his two fingers. He really meant people to ride in 2 line formation but no one was listening to him. Result, he was helpless and continued riding!

I would like to thank all those people who were showing off their bikes, their riding style. One reason,i became aware of the way you guys were riding and thats why i was crusing at 70-80 kmph. And thank you again, i got a a nice mileage of 48 kmph..

Also, i made up my mind of riding back with people whose riding style i know.

This was my last ride with big group. Until and unless, we dont have some strict rules about the formation riding, i aint going to join in.

DK,Satyen? Can we have some stringent rules in place.

The ride to the Big Wheels Cafe from McD(Kalamboli) was unbelievable. The time flew while riding with you all and by the time I could think where I was, I had already crossed Lonavala.

The turn out was huge and those burnouts and jugalbandi (I don't know what its called technically ) were the highlight. Seeing all those Superbikes and Harleys... basically, all class of bikes, in action was priceless.
