Guys, We all are aware of the disaster happening in Uttarakhand right now. There is an initiative taken by few Xbhpians to contribute in what ever way possible to help the victims. Since we stay far away from the actual location, sharing goods which are actually required may not be a very feasible option however we have sunilg who is collecting money from anybody who is willing to contribute in this noble cause. I suppose they would buy necessary items in bulk and give it to the organisation who is helping the victims.

Since we have G2G organised next Sat to Malshej Ghat, let me know if you any of you is interested to contribute in what ever way possible. darkknight would be doing a consolidated transfer to sunilg from Mumbai Xbhpians side based on what ever we manage to contribute.

Let me know guys what you think. Any bright ideas are welcome! From my side I think money transfer would work best as a contribution from our side.

Awaiting Mumbai Xbhpians comments!!!

The medicine & material purchase will be done by Delhi volunteers.

since buying here & sending is not viable.

That is why we are collecting money consolidating it & Sending it online so that the same can be used for various purchases.

it’s a good initiative of us trying to help the uttarakhand flash-floods affected folks.

i think more than the money, the need of the hour is:
- rations & food supplies
- pandemic prevention doses
- longer-lasting edible items
- high calorie eatables
- clean & dry clothes
- clean water
- hygiene supplies
- infection control products
- gloves, soap, shampoo, sanitary napkins, diapers, wipes, etc.
- first aid medicine & related equipment

also understand that the degree & levels of support varies from children to grown-ups to senior citizens since their needs are different!

heavy duty plastics, rainwear, chainsaws, tools, etc. are the aid items for samaritans who are already helping - even those may be considered.

the army is doing its best to help the victims & the govt will do its best to earn political interest out of this - deny it as much as u or me can, but it exists & we all know it.

we all 800 odd employees of my organization, contributed 1% of our monthly pay & sent it to the prime ministers relief fund only last week. despite that, i ask myself - will the financial aid i chip-in, ever, actually help or reach the truly needy ones? sadly the answer is a resounding ‘no’ – why? coz we are a nation wherein ‘value’ of human life is insignificant & value of a human being who is helpless due to his ill-fate, is not even worth a mention. sounds too satirical, my brothers? well recollect that cost of 1 cup of tea, just after the calamity happened was hovering in 60~80 rupees range & that’s what the locals did.

point being, we as responsible humans must help those that have been affected – no doubt about that; but our aid, will serve its core purpose more & better if we were to support in kind, instead of cash alone.

donate to charities you know and trust. be alert for charities that seem to have sprung up overnight in connection with current events, like the cloud-burst & flash floods.

before donating ascertain what percentage of your donation goes to the charity and to the fundraiser. if you don’t get a clear answer — or if you don’t like the answer you get — consider donating to a different organization.

don’t give out personal or financial information — including your credit card or bank account number — unless you know the charity is reputable.

never send cash: you can be almost certain that the targeted organization will never receive it.

between the government & the army, i wud any day bet my hopes on the later. so if at all we were to help & i am more than willing to help – we may find means & ways of doing so via the armed forces, the honest to earth ngo’s, the red cross, the humanitarian society, etc. & not via the government – that’s my limited point!

lemme know whom i issue a cheque in the name of... can still chip-in whatever small way i can... my visit to malshej is tentative hence wud like to know how are we going abt it... makes sense that we consolidate whatever we can & let the ND / NCR volunteers organize the rest.

apologies for the long write-up & also if my views are in contrast to anyone else's, but just had to say what's on my mind
