    Lovely pics!

I wish if i cud join u guys too, im still in my running in period (new Hero Impulse). Maybe next trip.

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

In our last Sula Vineyards ride, we had 2 P200 NS that were doing there run-in... Still we were all together..

I think its a misconception that we ride at too high speeds.. Although we do sometimes ... but we always stick together and wait for the fellow riders to catch up...You can take a bike directly out of the showroom and can join us.. .. I think some of our Mumbai folks are planning to hit Bhandardhara this weekend.. Its a good oppurtunity to ride along with them...

Mumbai- Pune- Mumbai is my favorite route... .... You can take this route as shown in the map->

Do remember that after Khopoli you'll get a lot of zig-zag road and that zig-zag road will merge onto Mum-Pune Express Highway...just ride along the road... Two wheelers are allowed from that point till Khandala Exit on the Expressway ( 5.5-6 Km, just after crossing the tunnel).... So don't get confused...

Another thing, since this is the peak season time, be ready to face a heavy traffic at Lonavala....

Similarly, if you plan to ride back to Mumbai on Sunday evening, then be ready to face heavy traffic at Lonavala and then after Panvel till Navi Mumbai... As soon as you cross the D.Y Patil Stadium (on your left), take the 1st fly over, get down and then take a right at Sharayu Hyundai.. this will take you to Airoli... Do PM me if you need any other information on this route.

          @saket :
          1. start early from virar [OMG!] - wear all the safety + waterproofing gear
          2. take ghodbunder > majiwda > kalwa / vitawa > rabale > palm beach road [assuming u will be passing thru early, u will not get any traffic 2 kalwa - not to mention it is a shorter distance than via the mulund toll plaza > airoli fly-over]
          3. exit off palm beach road, to join the old highway NH4 @ CBD Belapur
          4. ride straight on the tried & tested NH4
          5. be careful not to enter & exit the express highway lest u want ur pockets to be roasted & toasted by pandu's
          6. suggest that u stop-over @ khopoli / khandala or @ kamat's green house for a breakfast - affordable food & lil less crowded - lonavla on a sat / sun is no less crowded than the churchgate - virar 'bada-fast' local during office hrs.
          7. in case its raining then i strongly recommend a stop-over @ tony da dhaba @ kaamshet - a bit expensive & food is crap too, but a pristine ambience in rains - no bigger pleasure than puffing on ur cigar lying down on the chaarpoy + takiya - always makes me feel as if i were aurangzeb
          8. avoid return journey from pune to mumbai anytime after 3pm
          9. if u do, u may have massive congestion on the entire stretch of road that starts from waarje naka > chandani chowk > hinjewadi > dehu road / wadgaon. further down u will have yet another congestion @ lonavla and the worst one will be after u r on the khandeshwar - nerul onwards patch.
          10. once u are at palaspa phata [the mumbai pune & mumbai goa intersection] take a left turn & take the panvel bypass / JNPT route] so that u land up directly @ the intersection where the expressway meets the old NH4, just a few kilometers before the Taloja exit.
          11. take frequent 'su-su' breaks - its no fun riding in rain w/ ur family jewels full!
ride safe & may the force be w/ u, my friend!

Im thinkin of goin either for the Quechua Raincut Zip jacket and the basic pants or something from Duckback. These seem to be tried n tested and what everyone is recommending.

Dsg triton jacket and Quechua cycling pants..... I must say, triton is a very good riding jacket for rains. But complete useless in other seasons as you can not with stand the heat. And Quechua products are usually of very very good quality. So you can go for Quechua jacket and pant. Because, rain wear over your riding gear is still the best way to keep yourself dry in rains.

And as sachin said, duckback is also a very good option. Much cheaper than Quechua..... Decision is after all yours..

First of all I wish to remind you two facts of life,
One - Human body is insoluble in water
                      Two - Skin is waterproof

Still if you insist on remaining dry on rainy ride I would suggest Duckback have used it few times works well..

Personally I use DSG Nero Pants which don't soak in much water... the only reason I try to wear Raincoat is to keep my Jacket from getting dirty

For luggage I use Rynox Tank / Tail Bag which comes with Rain Cover and it has never given any problems...

dude don't go for Basic "Quechua Raincut Zip jacket" it doesn't have full zipper. it will be tough job to wear and remove over riding jacket every time.
check "Quechua Arpenaz 50 raincut zip jacket" it has full zipper, easy to use, tried and tested in heavy rains by me.
yup only downside is no bright color available.

Thanks for the quick reply man. Is there any particular model no.? Duckback seems to be very generic although I found a quite a few variants online- ::: SeasonKart.com :::

Ah, I knew I had forgotten to tag someone there! I use a Hyperion which is mesh+leather. It has a rain liner but it's extremely short (as the jacket itself is a short city jacket) so doesn't give me confidence to wear in moderate-heavy rain. Completely agree with your approach- raingear over riding gear

The most basic kachua stuff is not that pricey. Check the pics and rates below

The entire range- The Arpenaz 300 is the most pricey at 2500 approx (Last pic...pics order has got scrambled for some reason)

These are the cheapest but it doesn't have a full zipper- NOT suitable for us, as i learnt while attempting to wear over my jacket

I think this is the one many over here have- Raincut Zip- 799 bucks. Simple and looks ordinary- no closed zippers, though seams are taped.

And these are Kachua pants- 699 bucks

Also, have been searching for Gore-tex bear but it seems to be a rarity in India, even online, couldn't get a single suitable result (And the price is ...er...much higher than earlier thought)

i am more inclined towards using a poncho instead of a jacket - ponchos are loose & wide enuff to easily accommodate ur body + riding jacket & are 100% water-resist since there are no seams / stitches / etc.

till last year, i had a khaki army fabric+tarpaulin poncho that i 'stole' off my cousin who is in the army - those kinds that the jawans wear while riding their bulls - the flip side was, the thing weighed almost a ton & even more, once it got wet! finally gave it off to my society watchman last year! he still uses the damned thing!

as for the actual purchase, i will prolly do it in 2014

I have used that apology for a rain coat from 1988 onwards. We call it the rain cape. Originally, it had an excellent rubber liner which made it actually waterproof. But the Ordnance Factory supplied stuff was utterly useless. It was superbly water ABSORBENT, like a friggin' bloody sponge. Can be used to suck up water vapour out of thin air. I finally gifted mine to Bear Gryllis and he still uses it on his wild capers.

The Duckback rain upper plus lower is just superb. Getting one over-sized one fits the upper onto the jacket and the lower over riding pants. Totally waterproof, tested in a downpour on my Leh trip. Nothing to beat it. And it acts like a thermal jacket too. Sasta, sundar and tikaoo, pucca Indian eshtyle.
