The Festive season On two wheels.....
Being born in India and being one who wants to explore the civilization on two wheels,it is really very wonderful to seek the cultural beauty of the country and the festivals which reminds us of our unity in diversity.............
Its now festive season on the leash in India,Ganesh Chaturthi,Id,Navratri,Dusshera,Durga Puja,Laxmi Puja,Diwali,Guru Nanak Jayanti,Christmas......it continues. Its very hard to be born into this delicate country and not be a part of it.So,on 15th of October on the day of Mahashtami,Sunny Konkal and Myself pulled together a short ride into the city to feel what it feels like to be immersed in the biggest festival of Bengal and Bengali tradition...............and we have had some moments captured in our lenses and some movements too.
Sunny and Myself met at Rajarhat DLF bus-stand at 5.15pm,it was raining in bits and loads at that time.We then took off for the city. The best part of Biking during festive season in the city is that we get a lot of eye opener of how to ride really slow and endure some long traffic jams without losing our cool
............On a certain flyover while moving from Ruby EMBypass to Bijon setu I had to ride like Sudipta Ray rode his R1 on the traffic heavy NH while joining us on our way to Chandipur in Orissa, yes I used up every small gap available to me on cut the traffic short on a 150kg metal while Sunny followed in cool, but at times wasn't able to keep up.Later on I heard that a dumb taxi driver turned in,a rowdy biker on a Pulsar 150 rode infront of him like an infant etc.........However its a festive season and everyone tries to enjoy in their own way.
Then came the second trouble,we needed to photograph some big Pujas of the city but it seemed that Two-wheeler parking was non-existent in the city !!!! So I rode ourselves to AMRI hospital and parked the bikes over there at the Hospital parking yard meant for patients.........and our were the only vehicles parked there under protection........wonderful.Then we had a 2 kilometre walk to our destined Puja pandal...........the reasons for enjoyment were ample, everywhere there was joy in a sense of tough security implemented by the Police authorities,we visited all nearby pujas in the vicinity on foot all around, captured some very interesting moments amid a tidal wave of Human crowd and the joyous drumming!!!!!!.........then we moved on to the Puja associated with youth culture in the city-Maddox Square .
The Maddox square looked more like a Biker's Den rather than a Puja.Yeah it was evident that Kolkata youths loves bikes......but also that Bikes are a matter of show and a ladies magnet and a speed thriller for most, thats where the respect ends. But anyways,we found it difficult to find a suitable place for our Bikes to park.We found ourselves small spots to park our bikes safely and asked a Civic Volunteer to take special care for 20 bucks......ah some donations are worth peace of mind !!!
We spent over two hours at this place lost in the wave of youth and festivity, had our dinner and at last decided to head for our homes.
On our way back,we got raced by a Black shiny Bullet with Loud exhaust and Neons on,biker was without helmet. He saw my rare bike and started revving the loud thing,I popped my clutch at high rpms at usual to get rid off the noise pollution
.........well Bullets never were rockets, next guy to overtake was Sunny Konkal
Then on an empty patch of road we rode side by side and discussed the evenings and ultimately headed towards our respective homes.
Well, the evening we really had a blast, riding through the traffic .......enjoying all out, shouting and shooting away with our cameras anything we felt special.........
Now onto the pictures

The Ekdalia Evergreen Puja Pandal

A sitting Duck (reminds me of dumb drivers and scheming and reckless bikers)

The entrance

The Mother Idol.......it was difficult to photograph amid a crowd that kept pushing

The Huge Chandelier of lights hung from the roof of Ekdalia Evergreen Pandal !!!

The Press was there at every Puja Pandal.......!!!

This Pandal symbolized the Lord Shiva

Electric Light arts are an inseparable part of The Kolkata Durga Pujas.

We had here a spectacular Puja, where the Goddess was the artwork of some children, the whole pandal was built on dolls, art and drawings of children !!!!

The Dome of the Pandal built on dolls and artworks from inside

The Pandal at Maddox Square

Goddess Durga

Our Bikes parked in front of AMRI hospital

The Snack munching fest !!!!

A Traffic jam whose end cant be ascertained.....in a festival submerged metropolitan

Our Bikes parked Side by Side

Ourselves Side by Side
Here is a small video of our Festive City Tour.......
