Its an in-city ride,so hoping for a good turn out.
You just make sure that Gibran attends this ride

But is it a street race or a ride????
If it is a ride, one lap at 65-70kmph speeds would do............including some good deal of gossip and eating and stunt show from stunters.Lets move on with the plan.

If it is a street race..............several laps with maximum attainable speeds would be required.
Though,Street racing is not encouraged at Xbhp
Lets keep this off charts-discuss over mobile then
Awesome bro! Btw, I've never encouraged street racing either...After all, These are public roads..

We will not be racing each other or any one else on the road...nor will we be breaking any laws...that's for sure..

having said this, what we're going to do won't be very different from a 'Track Experience'...that will provide all the thrills without the spills..for us or any one else we'll be sharing roadspace with..

More on this in my next post..

    Cheers!
    Jai.

    P.S. I've a feeling Gibran won't miss this one...

BTW although the ride is to be starting at around 7am but the one way rules apply at 8am shouldnt that be a problem since there are no to and fro markers on the lap given? We can plan for a Chandannagar ride as suggested by Joy@rpm6000...
    Chris tha Terror!!

My brother, the route has been designed keeping in mind the one way rules in Kolkata any time between 7 am and 1 pm. Since, we'll be starting from Park Circus, that's the direction we'll follow based on the natural flow of traffic

Sincerely hope to see you there man, this'll be a very unique and exhilarating experience for those who may not have tried this sort of thing before...Think Isle of Man TT without the crashes :P

more on this in my next post..

    Cheers,
    Jai.

    Hey Joy bhai,

Riding to Chandannagar sounds like a super cool idea ( it's my father-in-law's home town :P) and I would love to go there...

But hey, do keep in mind, this isn't any ordinary city ride...and certainly not one where we'll be eating mini-bus and Auto Rickshaw Exhaust all the way...there won't be any stoppages (except the odd traffic stop) either...come rain come shine...we ride till we decide to stop

Moreover, think of this as a first date of sorts :P

A lot of the other guys who'll be joining in anew would love to get to know you first before landing up at your doorstep mate. We meet, ride the wheels of our machines then take a break, hangout, discuss and plan out a ride to Chandannagar for next week..whatsay?? Besides taking someone home, is usually done on the third date right..

Hope you get my drift brother...really looking forward to riding with you this Sunday on the 'Kolkata TT' route...

Feel free to get in touch with me any time bro..I'm a lot lighter in terms of work load this week, so any time you feel like, go ahead and call

    Talk soon,

    Cheers!
    Jai

    • Alright guys,

The Ride Formation or 'Concept' for this kind of ride is a little Track game known as 'Follow-the-Leader'

The Basic Idea is to follow the guy in front of you while maintaining a gap of TWO Bike Lenghts.

When the guy ahead of you accelerates, so do you, when he brakes, so do you. This means that not only will you have to trust your own instincts and skills, but you also have to trust those of the guy ahead of you.

The Key is to mark the lead rider's brake lights in your feild of vision

There must be no overtaking while the bikes are on the move and it's preferable that you follow the line taken by the guy in front of you.

What this means is that we will basically be forming a 'Train' or 'Chain' of bikes moving along a fixed line that doesn't interfere with the movement of other vehicular traffic.

This formation is advantageous as compared to a double-alternating formation since most of our roads aren't wide enough to accomodate two rows of riders in an alternating format.

This formation also allows different lines for braking in case of an emergency braking situation.

In order to avoid any pileups in this sort of format, it's important not to be overtly aggressive and to allow an increase in the distance to the guy in front of you by single bike lenghts with a proportionate increase in speed as follows:

Speed Distance to Rider in Front or 'Leader'

      60-70 kmph: 2 Bike Lenghts
      70-80 kmph: 3 Bike Lenghts
      80-100 kmph: 4 Bike Lenghts
100+ kmph: More than 4 bike lenghts

This can be acheived easily if you stay sharp and have precise control over your throttle and brakes. Also, Speeds increase with each lap as your level of comfort increases with the road and your fellow riders. Having said this, our train or chain will only be as fast as our slowest rider or bike.

Whenever given the opportunity, leading riders must do a quick check behind safely to see if the group is intact.

We may also break up the 'train' into batches of 5 or 7 riders if we have too many riders attending.

On this day, I'd advise against getting a pillion along for the ride, since it will mess with your motorcycle's dynamics and your ride experience. It is discouraged but not disallowed since it's up to you if you want to bring a friend along.

When we stop at a red light, it's important for all of us to stop in the same formation on the extreme left lane of the road in order to not interfere with traffic (if any)

Not only does this look super cool with so many bikes in a row, but it also helps maintain the order of formation and eliminates confusions on the move.

The Lead Rider, will change with every lap, where the second guy will come forward and the leader will move to the back and so on...

We'll start things of as follows:

We'll start rolling from Park Circus where I'll lead our pack into a warm up lap. Once we complete the warm up lap.

Once everyone's aquainted with a whole lap and it's intricacies, we stop again at Park Circus (Ar Salan this time) to pick a new order with numbers for who should lead next.

Sort of how we used to decide who should 'bat' next in cricket matches when we were kids.

Once that's decided, we just keep on churning out the laps, 'following-the-leader' till the pack decides to take a break, at which point we head to an eatery that suits everyone's palet.

And that's it...Simple, Safe, Quick and Extremely Fulfilling.

      Over to you guys

      Cheers!
      Jai.

P.S. We may also decide on doing quick photo shoots along the way in advance and stop accordingly, on the final lap.

Guys, if you are coming to Bandel/Chinsurah/Chandannagore, please count me in. For a Brief intro, I am Abhisek Mukherjee from Bandel. I am currently working in HCL Comnet Ltd as a IT Security Engineer. I started riding just recently and very much new to the Bikism. I own a Pulsar 135LS, brought on last 14th and currently in running in.

Since registration etc are still not obtained yet, I wont be able to join you guys in Kolkata. But if you guys are coming here, I will surely be able to meet you this weekend. It will be really good to see you all in flesh & I will get to learn a lot from you guys too.

Hoping we can meet this weekend.

                      • Came back after meeting TehBad aka Jai and Javed.

I will keep mum about how good is Jai at biking,I would let others see through their own eyes on Sunday.

He really rides like a pro-biker,calculated moves, which makes him the real fast guy on the fastest Indian. Also a very good man at heart.I would always want a friend like him.

Javed is another me ,cool, composed but the one to watchout when on a bike.

I really needed this break for the young Xbhpians, they are all bound to get a taste of how real gentlemen rides.

As for me,I am glad,I can really now enjoy a real-time biking group

Jai and myself did a very fast lapping of the route that we are going to do on Sunday-tonight,but one thing I must say,the rowdy stupid traffic of Kolkata must go if the experience has to better.Twice tonight,a taxi and a AC bus, wandered into my trajectory while I was following Jai.
It was so ridiculous ,just after Jai passed, they moved in as if they didnt even bother to see in their RVMs.Now I was unknown to this route,so was following Jai from a distance, watching the way he would move. But those thick headed drivers always broke the rhythm.............Didnt had time to talk to Jai about these after our lapping was over, was getting late for home.

Anyway,it was beautiful riding with Jai,cherishing more of that for now
