Sri, they're talking only on sports bike & not SBK's. May be there's something different on sports bikes that we don't knowOriginally posted by SriramEfunds View Post

Sri/Argee - As far as I know, the same applies to all bikes with high revving characteristics - typically sportsbikes and even sport SBK's. Since the weight bias is towards the front and these fast machines typically rely heavily on the front brakes, experienced riders normally drop down gears quickly during braking to bring the rear wheel spinning to the same speed as the front on which the brakes are being applied so as to keep the bike stable - at least that's what I have been given to understand by several seasoned SBK riders.
Honestly I too always ride the same way, and have found the combination of front brakes and engine braking so effective that I hardly ever use my rear brakes. In fact I'm a little cautious about using my rear brakes because they bite very hard and fast and have caused me to fishtail the rear on several occasions.
I also think that this tendency is more amongst these kind of bikes since they perform best at higher RPM and you tend to indulge in more spirited riding.
@ Whizz - To my knowledge, the bikes came with Castrol and even my 1st service had Castrol oil-change. I did an in between at 4K km when PBK put in the Bajaj lube but the engine immediately felt harsher, so I insisted that Jeeva put in Castrol again at the second service. He went out to a shop nearby and bought it for me and filled it in my bike. I believe that other owners have had good experience with Motul oils too.

If I've not mistaken, then the above technique is used to halt when one is moving on GOOD speed to SLOW down when the distance to slow down is LESS (eg, approaching a corner & brake EFFECTIVELY at last moment without compromising on speed). Pls state, if my understanding is incorrect.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Yes and No.
Yes - because its very effective to slow down very quickly from high speeds in short braking distances, without making the bike unstable by keeping the rear wheel spinning at the same speed as the front but still in traction. At the same time this dropping of gears will keep your RPM in the 'meat' of your power-band, ready to power out of a corner or even a sticky traffic situation by letting you jump out in front of the obstacle if there is enough space.
No - because it works just as well even when you're slowing down more leisurely, say coming in to a traffic light - or even when going down-hill. You use the gears to keep the bike in a controllable speed as you coast downhill, and touch the front brakes just to shave off a little bit speed to get the correct entry speed before you get to the hairpin and then use only your throttle to control and negotiate the actual turn.
I use only the front brakes and engine braking ALL the time.

Sure thing! And after the theory is discussed, please take my bike for a spin for the practicals!
